Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Lifelong Catechesis - Week of May 28th to June 3rd
READINGS FOR THE WEEK
28 Sunday: Pentecost
Acts 2: 1-11 / 1 Cor 12: 3b-7. 12-13 / Jn 20: 19-23
FOR DEEPER REFLECTION:
Question for Children: When have you heard your inner voice or conscience guiding you to do what is right?
30 Tuesday: Sir 35: 1-12 / Mk 10: 28-31
1 Thursday: Sir 42: 15-25 / Mk 10: 46-52
2 Friday: Sir 44: 1. 9-13 / Mk 11: 11-26
3 Saturday: Sir 51: 12cd-20 / Mk 11: 27-33

Question for Adults: Share about times when you felt the power of the Spirit, giving you the right words, giving you insight into a dilemma, or in other ways.
The Sanctuary Lamp this week is burning for:
Church: Isabel Amling
Requested by Amling Family
Consider donating the sanctuary lamp that burns in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church or Chapel in honor of a living or deceased loved one. One intention is accepted per week (Sunday - Saturday) for the Lamp. The suggested donation is $25. Request online HERE.

Memorial Day
In the United States, the last Monday of May is designated Memorial Day, a federal holiday which is set aside for remembrance of those who have died while serving our country in the many branches of the armed forces. The meaning of this day is often confused with Veterans’ Day in November, which honors ALL veterans, living and deceased. This is also often obfuscated by the parades, BBQ lunches, pool parties and other festivities that mark the unofficial start of summer.
As it is such both a day of remembrance and of celebration, an interesting note about the flag of the United States on this day: The flag is to be raised to the top of the staff as always, but then immediately lowered to half-staff until noon. Then, it is raised again for the remainder of the day.
While not an officially observed remembrance in the Universal Church, the Catholic dioceses in the United States often recommend that Masses on this day be celebrated with the people, remembering those who gave their lives in service of the United States. Catholics and all Christians and citizens are encouraged to engage in the practice of the visiting of cemeteries or monuments to pay respects to fallen soldiers on this day, or at least during the month of May.
This year, 2023, it is also the memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church. Take some time on this day to pray for the intercession of the Blessed Mother for the fallen, for vocations, and for your own intentions.
Saint of the Week:
Anthony of Padua, Priest and Doctor, 1195
Born Ferdinand de Bulhoes in Lisbon, Portugal, Anthony was the son of a knight in King Alphonso’s court. He began his studies at the cathedral in Lisbon and joined the Augustinians when he was fifteen. Ordained in about 1219, Anthony transferred to the Franciscans in 1221 at which time he took the name Anthony. Sent to Morocco to preach to the Moors, Anthony was soon forced to return because of illness. He was stationed at a small hermitage in Italy, where he spent his time studying Scripture, praying, and doing menial tasks. Once, at an ordination when no one was prepared to speak, Father Anthony hesitantly accepted the task. Read more HERE.
“Easter Duty”
The Catholic Church requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following: The obligation, the privilege really, of receiving the Eucharist at least once a year often called “Easter duty” for those in the state of grace should still be fulfilled during the period from the First Sunday of Lent, February 26, 2023 to Trinity Sunday, June 4, 2023. However, the Church’s law does permit this precept to be fulfilled at another time during the year when there is a just cause.

My Dear Parishioners:
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost. Pentecost is more than celebrating the “birthday” of the Church—it celebrates our “birth” into resurrection life and being sent to forgive others. We can speak of a “birthday” of the Church the Church being the body of Christ—only when we make the Church a reality through forgiveness of one another. Forgiveness is sometimes the most difficult thing we do; so many simple acts in our everyday living demand that we seek and give forgiveness. This is why Jesus sent the Spirit: to empower us, through the common resurrection life we share, to forgive, to heal divisions in the community, to be peacemakers.
Getting back into the habit of living our Catholic Christian Life is an important aspect of Pentecost. I am so pleased and thankful that many of you have returned to the regular celebration of mass and reception of Holy Communion which is the center of our Catholic Life. This Eucharistic Communion nourishes the communion of the faithful in our desire to serve others and transform the world. I continue to pray for all those who struggle to get back into the habit of participating in Sunday Mass. Through the outpouring of the Paraclete may we continue to encourage one another to fully participate in the Sacramental Life of our Catholic Church. Together may we continue to be good stewards of the mysteries of our faith in service to our mission of building God’s Kingdom.
This coming weekend 27/28 May 2023 we will observe an abbreviated Mass schedule. The Saturday Mass at 500pm; The Sunday
Mass at 10:00am. Please note this in your personal diaries. The Saturday Anticipated Mass will be celebrated each weekend at 5:00pm through and including the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, 2/3 September 2023. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
This coming week we observe the Memorial Day holiday. This civic observance encourages us to remember, pray for, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am, Monday, 29 May 2023 in the Chapel. The Annual Colts Neck Memorial Day Parade begins at 10:00am at the Township Complex proceeding up Heyers Mill Road. This is a great tradition of our town. Come and be a part of it. Let us teach our children and young people the importance of patriotism and gratitude for the freedo9m we enjoy.
In the coming weeks ahead we will keep the wonderful customs of our liturgical year: Saint Anthony of Padua; Holy Trinity; Solemnity of Corpus Christi; Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul; Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus are all observed this year during the month of June. Please make every effort to participate in these spiritual exercises. June 18 is our American observance of Father’s Day. It is a wonderful opportunity to pray that through the intercession of Saint Joseph our fathers will continue to be blessed in living their vocation among us. Let us also congratulate all those who have graduated during the months of May and June as they begin a new chapter in their life’s journey. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Pentecost Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Visitation and Mary has a powerful spiritual lesson to teach us. This young girl has a precarious road ahead of her. Amid her ordeal, she doesn’t complain. She doesn’t cry. She doesn’t panic. She simply allows her soul to proclaim the greatness of her Lord. No one of us has a perfect life, but tonight, let us join with one another in prayer and together proclaim the greatness of our Lord.
