Memorial Day In the United States, the last Monday of May is designated Memorial Day, a federal holiday which is set aside for remembrance of those who have died while serving our country in the many branches of the armed forces. The meaning of this day is often confused with Veterans’ Day in November, which honors ALL veterans, living and deceased. This is also often obfuscated by the parades, BBQ lunches, pool parties and other festivities that mark the unofficial start of summer.

As it is such both a day of remembrance and of celebration, an interesting note about the flag of the United States on this day: The flag is to be raised to the top of the staff as always, but then immediately lowered to half-staff until noon. Then, it is raised again for the remainder of the day. A moment of remembrance is also encouraged to be observed at 3 PM. While not an officially observed remembrance in the Universal Church, the Catholic dioceses in the United States often recommend that Masses on this day be celebrated with the people, remembering those who gave their lives in service of the United States. Catholics and all Christians and citizens are encouraged to engage in the practice of the visiting of cemeteries or monuments to pay respects to fallen soldiers on this day, or at least during the month of May. The Monmouth Civic Chorus Sunday, June 2nd at 4 pm MCC will be holding a concert, A Night at The Operetta, in the church at The Parish of Saint Mary.

Outline of Process for completing RE Registration Obtain a My Own Church (MOC) Login.

All families seeking Religious Education must be registered parishioners and have a My Own Church (MOC) portal login. The process to create a MOC portal login and receive a temporary password can take a few days. This interface is not mobile device friendly and has been known to have emails blocked by several of the email providers.

Request student(s) session & class through the MOC portal Once the request is received by RE office, it will be verified and processed, then, an invoice will be created for payment, and be emailed back to the family. This email/Invoice will include a web link to make payments through the Online Giving interface.

Submit payment through the Online Giving link provided in invoice email.

Please note, a student’s placement is not regarded as certain until payment is made. A final verification will be sent to confirm placement and that the process is complete.

Students whose last names begin in A-K are asked to come at 1:30, while students whose last names begin in L-Z are asked to come at 3:00 pm.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter. Living the paschal mystery is as demanding as loving with the same self-sacrifice as Jesus and as easy as responding to God’s indwelling as an intimate Friend who is always with us, never forsakes us, and at all times is there for us with care and strength.

These Sundays before Pentecost when we celebrate the gift of the Spirit are so important for our daily Christian living: they remind us that as disciples we never have to feel like the whole task of living the gospel falls on our shoulders alone.

God is always present, dwelling within us, to give us the strength we need to be faithful to Jesus’ commands. Only in this way can our everyday lives be fruitful, can we keep Jesus’ word as our own word.

Monday is the civic observance of Memorial Day. It is a time when we, as Americans, remember those women and men, who throughout the years since the founding of our nation, have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom that we enjoy. Come and celebrate Mass together in memory of these courageous women and men. Following there is a charming parade through our town along Heyers Mill Road. The parade concludes at Fire House #2.

Let us continue to participate in these civic and patriotic events within our community of Colts Neck. It is a wonderful way for us to show our children the importance of respecting the women and men who have given their life for the freedom that we enjoy today.

This week we will celebrate the 40th Day of Easter commemorating the Ascension of the Lord into Heaven. This mystery of our faith should occupy a place in our reflection these days, since the Lord promised us that he would be with us always. This is a HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. Please consult the Worship

Schedule for a listing of Masses scheduled for your convenience. The Ascension reminds us of the important outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. While the Lord returned to God in Heaven, the Spirit has been sent to empower us for ministry and in building up the Church.

Pentecost is the 50th Day of Easter and we will chant the dismissal with the double alleluias at the conclusion of our Sunday Masses. We will publish an overview of our 2019 Easter collection as the liturgical season ends. Thank you for your generous sharing.

This week we conclude registration for our Fall RE programming: Confirmation Prep., On Campus Grades 1 & 2, and online opportunities.

Please re-register or register your family NOW. We have made the registration earlier this year due to the amount of feedback we received from families last year.

Thank you for your commitment and cooperation to our children and young people. Our Staff has recommended, and I have approved, the renewal of our parish license for the FORMED material. It is a great resource for all and provides opportunities for on -going faith formation at home or during your commute on the train or bus. Check it out!

The 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) is well underway. We continue to make slow and steady progress toward our goal. I ask that you prayerfully consider your gift and make it either on-line or by completing the cards located in the narthex of the church. I have made my gift and I am grateful to all those who have already done so in support of His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton.
