Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Question for Youth: Jesus asked Peter three times to “feed my sheep.” Who are you being called to help in your life right now? Question for Adults: Christ continues to feed us as his disciples, even after his death and resurrection. How does the Eucharist feed your faith?

May Crowning The month of May is traditional associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Paul VI identified the month of May as a time to incorporate specific prayers for peace. And Mary, being Queen of Peace, brings these special prayers to her son, Jesus Christ. The crowning of an image of Blessed Virgin Mary is a tradition in the Catholic Church, wherein a crown woven out of flowers is placed upon a statue of Mary to signify her role as Queen of Heaven and Mother of God. In small towns where church and home life are heavily intertwined, this practice always takes place on the 1st day of May. Other customs include the Sunday closest to this day, following the “high Mass” of the day, or on Mother’s Day. In our Parish, our tradition is to crown the statue following the first Saturday evening Mass of the month. There is a prescribed rite for the Crowning of an Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary which we follow. The priest or deacon proclaims a prescribed prayer and the image is crowned. The Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary follows, wherein the faithful present pray for the intercession of the Blessed Mother, and call her by her many titles. (Queen of Peace, Mother of Mercy, etc) Individual devotions often take place following the rite, but are not prescribed. Traditionally, the rosary is not prayed during this event, but it is encouraged that those who pray the rosary at home or at church do so in the presence of an image of the Blessed Mother during the month of May. Mary, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us.
Saint of the Week: Elizabeth Ann Seton, Mother and Religious, 1774-1821
“Easter Duty” The Catholic Church requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following: The obligation, the privilege really, of receiving the Eucharist at least once a year --- often called “Easter duty” --- for those in the state of grace should still be fulfilled during the period from the First Sunday of Lent, March 5-6, 2022 to Trinity Sunday, June 12, 2022. However, the Church’s law does permit this precept to be fulfilled at another time during the year when there is a just cause.
Our saint this week experienced the kindness and sympathy of others in her time of grief. In turn, she spent much of the remainder of her life caring for others. Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton was born in New York City on August 28, 1774, just two years before the Declaration of Independence was signed. She might truly be called a daughter of the American Revolution. Elizabeth’s father, Dr. Richard Bayley, was a professor in the medical school of what is now Columbia University. Her mother, and later, her stepmother, were staunch Episcopalians who instilled in her an appreciation of prayer and the Scriptures. At nineteen, Elizabeth married a handsome, wealthy businessman, William Magee Seton, with whom she had five children. Read more HERE.

William Bausch, Pastor of St. Mary Parish for twenty-seven years, thought we might enjoy sharing the memories, photos he had put on a disc of the “classes” of years ago… some of those “students” are still parishioners today, some have moved away, and some have gone to Heaven. However, many of their children are still actively involved. ALL ARE INVITED TO COME TO A SHOWING OF THE PHOTOS. This will take place in Madonna Hall at 2:00 pm on Sunday afternoon, May 22nd. Refreshments will be served and lots of good conversation will be shared. Please join us and invite others who may enjoy meeting fellow parishioners, past and present.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Third Sunday of Easter. Resurrected life has its demands—but Jesus gives us all we need in terms of abundance and nourishment in order to meet those demands. The incredible thing about our God is that God provides us with all we need, beginning with offering us new life. Accepting the abundance that God offers means that by following Jesus we become Jesus’ resurrected presence, those who lead others to him. Every day we must take care that our actions announce God’s blessings at the same time that they speak of God’s goodness and care. Leading others to Jesus doesn’t mean doing big things; it means doing the little things well and so reflecting the Life in us. During the Easter Season the Church joyfully celebrates the Sacraments in a very special way. Gathered in the glow of the paschal candle we baptize, confirm, offer holy communion & witness marriages. All of this is central to the life of any parish community. However, the priority of the community must be the faithful & reverent celebration of the Eucharist each Sunday. It is this experience of the Lord in the holy communion, the scriptures proclaimed and preached & the gathering of the faithful that we are identified as Catholics, nourished to be witnesses in the world and given our mission to go forth. Our parish catechetical ministry is central to advancing the mission which we receive from the Lord. We can only effectively go forth in mission if we possess a conscious longing to be one with the Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. Let us continue to pray for our clergy and lay leaders as we assist parents and families in passing on the faith. As we prepare others for the paschal sacraments may we be renewed with them in our understanding of what it means to be one in Christ Jesus the Lord. Many thanks to all those who worked to provide the 2022 Easter Egg Hunt. It is always so great to see young people volunteering to take the lead in providing for events sponsored by our parish. I am grateful to many for heeding the invitation to car pool on Easter Sunday. I saw so many who did and it made a huge difference in our ability to welcome so many for the masses, especially the 10:15 and 12noon Easter Sunday Masses. Thank you.
ence Day, & Labor Day once again this year. The reason for this is that there are an extraordinary number of parishioners who are absent these weekends due to vacations, summer homes and sporting events. These absences result in a lack of liturgical ministers. Our parish strives to offer the best worship we can and, for the most part, recognizing the needs for “convenience”. We will continue to do this as long as we can adequately provide for this. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation in this matter. The 50th Anniversary of our parish community will be observed this year 5 June 2022, The Solemnity of Pentecost. There will be a special mass schedule that weekend: Saturday 5:00pm; Sunday 3:00pm Solemn Pontifical Concelebrated Mass of Thanksgiving. I encourage all to plan to attend this historic and memorable celebration of mass. All may attend this mass, current as well as former parishioners. The community gathering on the parish campus is for registered parishioners and their families. There is a small registration offering so that we might be properly prepared. A link for you to make a reservation has been included in the e-bulletin. Please make your reservation today. Preparations continue to be made for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022. There continues to be some adjustments to staffing and some programmatic changes in the coming year. Capital projects are under review. Fixed costs continue to rise at an unprecedented percentage. We continue to be prudent in our stewardship of parish resources. All of this is possible through your generous sharing of time, talent and treasure. Our Increased Offertory Program of 2020 has been well received and as such we have completely eliminated Parish Fund-Raising in order to provide revenue for annual operating and capital expenses for the for-seeable future. As always your generosity as stakeholders makes the difference.
Please make your contribution to the 2022 Easter Collection this week if you have not done so already. We need everyone to participate. May God continue to reward each of you for your generous sharing in order that the Church might continue to proclaim Christ Crucified, Died and Risen! Our parish May Crowning is quickly approaching. Consult another section of the e-bulletin for details. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. We have adopted an abbreviated Mass Schedule for Peace.
