Corpus Christi The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is celebrated on the second Sunday after Pentecost, or two months after Easter Sunday. This day reaffirms our Catholic faith in transubstantiation. That is, that the bread and wine offered in the holy sacrifice of the Mass become the body and blood of Christ. As noted in the Council of Trent, "the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained. This is a fundamental belief of our Catholic faith and one that sets us apart from other Christian denominations. It is important to remember that today, and every day, Jesus is present in all the tabernacles of the world, and at every Catholic Eucharistic celebration. In some places, a procession is held today, similar to the one on Holy Thursday, wherein the Blessed Sacrament is carried through the streets of the town to a smaller church or chapel, where benediction and/or adoration may take place.

Facilitators take turns leading the group: Sr. M. Francis Lomeo, RGS (Sisters of the Good Shepherd) Treasure Herman With Sr. Fran, we read an inspirational book (selected by the group) and discuss it.

Men’s Morning Office (MMO) meets every Thursday morning at 6:30 am in the Christ Chapel. “Liturgy of the Hours”- meditation and prayer is led each week by one of the men, followed by communion. Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate The Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ also known as Corpus Christi Sunday. In fact, few of us will be challenged literally to put the proverbial collar around the cat. But all of us, through baptism, truly are challenged to have the same self-giving stance as Jesus. Eucharist is the centerpiece of our lives, challenging us: our identity is our mission—self-giving. This Solemnity provides us an opportunity to reflect on what Eucharist is for us as disciples of the Lord. The church teaches us that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. This teaching shapes our approach when we come for Mass, when we are in the nave of the church building in the presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament reserved for the sick, dying (viaticum) and adoration in the tabernacle. This teaching also shapes how we prepare ourselves to come for Mass: how we dress, what time we arrive, are we respectful of others, do we remain until the final blessing? When we truly believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, then our actions and attitudes reflect that true presence. The communion procession is a time for us to be intensely focused on the fact that God is coming to us in this sacrament. Our reverence and respect for the awesomeness of this sacrament will help to inspire and teach our young people. May Christ continue to be made present in our midst through the Eucharist that we faithfully celebrate together.

The transition from Spring into Summer brings with it a flurry of activity. Weddings, First Communions, Confirmations, Ordinations and various Graduations are times for family members to gather in celebration and in support of one another. Let us continue to support also those who are experiencing the mega milestones in their life this year. This weekend His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, has ordained 4 new Priests for service to the People of God in our Diocese of Trenton. Let us give thanks to almighty God for these vocations and the courageous response of these men to respond generously to that call. During the month of June, the Bishop will be meeting with all of the priests serving in our Diocese of Trenton county by county. Please keep our Bishop and priests in your daily prayers. Monday, 4 June is our 9th Annual Parish Golf Outing. I am grateful to all those who are supporting this very important effort. To our sponsors, golfers and those attending the summer social…THANK YOU. To those working on the committee...THANK YOU. As we enter the summer months, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to Christ and the Church by attending Mass each Sunday, regardless of where we might be…here, at home or away on holiday. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Contact your Legislators to Oppose Assisted Suicide On Monday, March 12, the Assembly Judiciary Committee released the Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act (A1504). The bill will now be voted on by the General Assembly, possibly as early as June 7. The bill would allow physicians to prescribe drugs to end the lives of terminally ill individuals considered to have six months to live. The facts are clear - in California, in Vermont and in Oregon - states that have passed assisted suicide bills - insurance companies have denied individuals expensive healthcare coverage but offered them low cost drugs to end their life. In an era of cost control and managed care, patients with lingering illnesses may be branded as a financial liability for the insurance company, and decisions to encourage death could be driven by reducing costs. Please contact your state legislators TODAY and tell them that you oppose A1504/S1072. For an easy way to find your legislators and voice your opposition, go to www.njcatholic.org and click “Take Action”
