FEAR NOT How do people find hope in the face of suffering and death? That is the question addressed by today's scriptures. We hear of the suffering of Jeremiah and the psalmist. We hear of the death that "reigned from Adam to Moses" (Romans 5:14). We hear of the fears of the Twelve as Jesus sends them out into the world to preach and heal. Through all this tribulation one message rings out loud and clear--"Do not be afraid!" The God who saved Jeremiah and the psalmist and Jesus is fully present to save us through the gracious gift of Jesus Christ. We have nothing and no one to fear. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Quo vadis‌ My Dear Parishioners: This weekend we celebrate the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this Sunday tell us in one more way that embracing the dying of the paschal mystery always leads to rising, but with a slightly different twist: these readings remind us that dying sometimes will be foisted on us by the evil-doing of others. At the same time, the readings remind us that the rising given us is the presence of a caring and loving God. The gospel presents us with other word pairs that challenge us to the dying and rising we are to live: concealed/revealed; darkness/ light; do not be afraid/be afraid; kill the body/cannot kill the soul; denies Jesus/ acknowledges Jesus. These are always presented to us as choices. The disciple who lives the paschal mystery is one who places God before all else. At issue here is that we stay the course of faithful discipleship no matter what adversary we meet because, ultimately, what counts is fidelity to God. With this faithfulness we need not fear, for God has counted even all the hairs on our head! This coming week the liturgical calendar for the Universal Church observes the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. This is the Solemnity each year when those who have been named to a Metropolitan Archbishopric throughout the world may journey to the See of Peter to receive the pallium (the white lambs wool stole that is worn on the outside of the chasuble by the Metropolitan) from
the current successor of Saint Peter. Pope Francis has recently offered to have the Apostolic Nuncios confer the pallia in the local archdiocese as a further expression of synodality throughout the church. It is worth noting that the Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople sends a delegation representing the Patriarch to Rome for this Solemnity as a sign of the communion that already exists as we continue to pray for the restoration of full, visible and Eucharistic communion between Roman Catholics and the Orthodox Christians. Let us pray for these men who have been entrusted in a special way with preserving the unity of the church in their particular province. Preparations continue to be made for the new fiscal year to begin 1 July 2017. Budget items are being reviewed as well as capital items. Salary and benefits schedules are underway so that we can continue to offer our parish staff competitive compensation for the work that they oversee/do. Many thanks to all of our bona-fide parishioners for their sacrificial stewardship that enables us to fulfill our mission of prayer, formation and outreach. Preparations are underway for a Love Thy Neighbor Reception celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of our Parish of Saint Mary on this campus. More on this in the coming weeks. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
