Saint Anthony of Padua was a Franciscan who lived from 1195-1231, spending the latter years of his life in Italy. He was a profound preacher and teacher, one of the greatest of his time, as well as an advocate for the poor and needy. Following his death, in May 1232, less than a year after his death, Pope Gregory IX canonized Saint Anthony, and in 1946, Venerable Pope Pius XII proclaimed Saint Anthony a Doctor of the Church, due to the latter’s profound spiritual teachings, from his collected sermons. Saint Anthony is the patron saint of lost things. This stems from a story that while Saint Anthony was in Bologna, a novice decided to leave the order and took one of Saint Anthony’s cherished books of psalms with him. Anthony prayed for the book to be found, and the novice returned both the book, and his commitment to the order. There is, in some places, the tradition of the blessing and distribution of bread on his feast day, June 13. One possible reason for the institution of this custom is a 13th century story about a woman whose daughter had fallen into a well and presumed drowned. She begged Saint Anthony for the life of her child and promised her weight in grain should she be found alive. The child arose, as if merely sleeping. Today, the bread reminds of us of the charity of Saint Anthony. In other places, money that is collected for the poor and needy is referred to as Saint Anthony’s bread, from the colloquial terms “bread, or dough” for Andrew J. Macirowski money.

To the parents of our Confirmandi: We have received notification that His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation here at the Parish of St. Mary on Friday, October 19, at 4 pm. Confirmation interviews will be done according to the following schedule: Students with last names beginning in F-K on Sunday, June 10, between 1:30 and 3:30 pm. Students with last names beginning in L-Z on Monday, June 11, between 6 and 8 pm. Students missing their allotted time must come on Tuesday, June 12 at 6:00 pm. A successful interview is only one of the prerequisites for advancing to Confirmation. If a student performs less than satisfactorily on their interview, a make-up interview will need to be scheduled. Completion of the service hours as well as attendance at our year's Sunday sessions, and attending the Confirmation retreat in the fall also are parts of the program requirements.

Spiritual Reading

Tuesdays at 10:00 am- 11:45 am Room #17 All women are invited Join us for spiritual reading, discussion, praying & fellowship.

Facilitators take turns leading the group: Sr. M. Francis Lomeo, RGS (Sisters of the Good Shepherd) Treasure Herman With Sr. Fran, we read an inspirational book (selected by the group) and discuss it.

Men’s Morning Office (MMO) meets every Thursday morning at 6:30 am in the Christ Chapel. “Liturgy of the Hours”- meditation and prayer is led each week by one of the men, followed by communion. The service lasts about 30 minutes after which, for those that can stay, we enjoy the camaraderie of one another over coffee & donuts. The invitation is OPEN for all men in the Parish. PLEASE come join us. We’d love to see you!

With Treasure, we use “At Home with the Word” and “Exploring”, which follows the weekly gospels and incorporates thoughtful questions for the group to ponder and discuss how this particular gospel “works” in our own lives.

Prayer time where everyone has the opportunity to offer their intentions is also incorporated.

"Wrap it up” is around 11:45 am when all are invited to go to lunch together. Spiritual Reading is a close‐knit group, and everyone (new joiner or old member) is made to feel welcomed, loved & prayed for! Treasure Herman treasher@aol.com

Quo vadis‌ My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. As we continue to journey through the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time, this weekend we are reminded that with the Lord there is mercy and redemption. The Lord waits for us to seek out his presence and ask forgiveness. Jesus, through his birth, suffering, death and resurrection has opened the way for us to abandon the life of sin and destruction providing us the way of hope and God’s love. Perseverance is the way forward. We should never lose heart We must always trust that God will raise us up as Jesus was raised.

his internship this summer he will assist with the liturgy, participate in consultative meetings, assist with Summer Session Religious Education, meet with our parish staff members to learn their responsibilities and be available to assist with pastoral care. His Excellency has shown confidence in our community to assist in forming this seminarian for the priesthood. I am grateful to our parishioners for your kindness and support in welcoming Seminarian RJ to our community. RJ will be living at our parish house during his tenure with us. Let us continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood.

I have been advised by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton through the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy and Consecrated Life and Director of Seminarians, that our parish will receive a seminarian intern for this summer. Seminarian RJ Balacillo arrives this weekend to begin his internship here in our parish community. RJ has completed two years of theological studies with two more years in order to complete his degree in preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Orders. During

This coming week the universal church observes the Memorial of Saint Anthony of Padua, Doctor of the Church. Devotion to Saint Anthony has spread throughout the world. May we continue to ask the intercession of Saint Anthony as we discern how to better serve the poor and needy in our midst. Later this month we will celebrate the Solemnity of John the Baptist and the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. Have a great Week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace.
