Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Our parish will once again produce our annual summer concert, a tradition which began in 2018. Comprised of singers from our cohort parishes, local community choirs, and members of neighboring towns who don’t normally sing in a choir. We will feature two major works. The first is Mozart's "Sparrow" Mass, K.220, which heavily features the choir and soloists, and is accompanied by strings and trumpets. The second work is by acclaimed local composer Michael John Trotta, entitled "Intimations of Immortality," with text based on the poem of the same name by William Wordsworth. The choir is accompanied by piano, strings, french horn, and oboe.
We are still seeking additional singers for this event, especially tenors and basses. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7pm from July 10 through August 7. The concert is August 8, 7pm.

Antonio Maria Zaccaria, Priest, 1502-1539
Antonio was born into a wealthy family in Cremona, Italy in 1502. His parents, Lazzaro and Antonia had been married a year when he was born. His father died a year after his birth. His mother, only eighteen at the time her husband’s death, devoted her life to Antonio. She taught him about God and his mercies and about Jesus. To give him an appreciation for those around him in Cremona who were not as well off, she had Antonio distribute alms to those in need.
Given an excellent education, Antonio earned his medical degree in 1524 and returned to Cremona to set up his practice. Soon, however, he found that many of the people that he was treating needed more than the physical care that he could provide. In many ways, they were suffering spiritually more that bodily. It was at this time that he felt a call to religious life and began the study of theology.
Ordained in 1528, Antonio gave his inheritance to his mother and began to provide spiritual and medical care to the poor. Moving to Milan, he, together with some other priests, founded a new order, the Congregation of the Clerks of St. Paul. Recognizing the success that the order was having in ministering to the spiritual needs of the people of Milan, Pope Clement VII approved the order in 1533 with Antonio as its superior.

Quo vadis
Today we celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Is Jesus a carpenter or a prophet for us? How we believe will determine how we project who we are—the body of Christ. People will look at us and see the externals; we are laborers and professionals, town workers and church workers. It took mighty deeds on Jesus’ part to astonish the townspeople in his native place enough to ask the question about his identity. It is only when our own words and deeds go beyond what people expect of us that we will astonish our families, friends, and acquaintances into asking similar questions of us: “Who is this person?” “Where did this person get all this?” We are anointed prophets in baptism. We receive the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. We are empowered to do the mightiest of mighty deeds: be the body of Christ, bringing Christ’s risen presence to our broken world. What will people say of us? We will shock them into taking a second look at our identity only when we live as Jesus did—giving ourselves for others.
Our nation celebrates another anniversary of our independence…the 258th. Is it just another day? Do we understand our independence in light of the evening news? Do we truly realize what a blest nation we are and honor those who have and continue to fight for our freedom? This summer let us re-kindle that spirit of patriotism that gave birth to our country. Let us, by our example, show to those new immigrants and our children and young people the pride we have in being called Americans.
This weekend we will observe an abbreviated mass schedule, Saturday 5:00pm & Sunday 10:00am. Please note this in your personal schedules. Thursday, 4 July is when the civic observance is observed; mass will be celebrated at 9:00am in the Chapel on that day. Let us continue to pray and work for Religious Liberty throughout our land.
Congratulations to all of our GRADUATES: from College, High School, Elementary School, Kindergarten…. To the Graduates and their Families I offer you my prayers as you move into the next phase of your life. Stay true to who you are and what you value. Our parish will once again host the send off mass (4 August 2024) for new and some returning students attending the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. This mass is sponsored and hosted by the Jersey Shore Alumni.
The 2024 Annual Catholic Appeal continues throughout the summer. I am grateful to those who have made their gift/pledge. I invite all those who have not made their gift to please do so this coming week. It was. Dry nice having Fr. Victor with us for a few days. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., is again inviting parishioners in the Diocese of Trenton to support the second annual collection for the Retired, Elderly and Infirm Priests Fund scheduled for Masses July 27 and 28. The collection is part of the diocesan observance of World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly established three years ago by Pope Francis to be held on or near the Feast of Jesus’ own grandparents, Saints Joachim and Anne. The collection, which will be taken in all Catholic churches across Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties, will be used to help fund the needs of the retired and elderly priests of the Diocese whose numbers have now reached 85.
We will have a collection box for this appeal at the masses on July 27 & 28. Please be generous.
