Mass Etiquette: Things To Do And Not Do While at Mass

Anticipatory Mass No bulletin reading during Mass. Imagine if  Monday, 14 August 7 pm in the Church you invited a guest to your house and before dinner (or during) they decided to Holy Day Mass read a magazine instead of talking to you.  Tuesday, 15 August 9 am in the Church That is what is happening in God’s house when you read the bulletin.

Do not leave early. We should stay to the end of the recession and the hymn that accompanies it, if there is one. While there are certainly exceptions to this guideline, most who leave early don’t need to and ought not to.

Pray after Mass, if you feel called to do so. It is a good custom, though not required, to offer a prayer of thanksgiving after Mass is over. www.aggiecatholicblog.org

Following the 9 am Mass, there will be a procession to the grotto, weather permitting, for communal prayers to the Blessed Mother and time for private devotion.

GIVING GUIDELINES FOR PRAYERFUL REFLECTION Of all the ways we are asked to be generous, giving from our treasure - giving money - can sometimes be the most challenging. God understands this. He calls us to tithe for this reason. Giving money to charity will do much good, but the most good it will do is free us from our attachment to money. This frees us to serve God and draw closer to Him. Tithing challenges us to see the differ ence between what we need and what we want. This is important for our spiritual well being.

Tithing means giving 10% fr om our gr oss wages or income. We strive to give 5% to our parish, and 5% to the needs of the greater Church and world – other charities.

Giving freely is an important tool to develop in our journey to draw closer to Christ. For most, it takes time to reach a full tithe.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The impulse of the first parable is to pull the weeds. The impulse during our whole Christian living is to be impatient with ourselves as we grow in our discipleship.

Part of living the paschal mystery is to be patient with ourselves, especially when we have failed. The forgiveness and patience of God assures us that God permits repentance (see first reading) and extends forgiveness.

Even our mistakes are ways that we have “ears…to hear” and learn better the ways of God. God’s final judgment comes at the “end of the age” when, hopefully, all of us have lived the ways of patience and faithfulness and have borne fruit.

Congratulations to our Faith Formation Team and all those who have assisted with the First Summer Intensive Religious Education Module for grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Since we have devoted significant resources to re-organizing our physical facilities, and continue toward the development of a consistent vision for life-long faith formation, this is a natural addition as we strive to serve our parish families. It is very important that the Church strive to be at the center of people’s lives. None of this would be possible without your commitment of Stewardship. The Time, Talent and Treasure that many of you share enables us to continue to build upon the wonderful foundation in parish life that we have received.

The parish needs to be a community where we can all come together

and celebrate our diversity and uniqueness while together we are the Body of Christ at this time in this place. We have another module scheduled for August 2017.

There are many projects underway during the Summer months in addition to the day-today activities of parish life. During the period between the Summer programming for children, we will continue work on Madonna Hall. The new LED lights have been received. We are receiving a modest rebate from the state and will realize a reduction in our monthly billing. Our insurance provider is funding the replacement of all the ceiling tiles due to health-hazard issues. While all of this is in the works and the ladders and scaffolding is on site, we will be painting the ceiling tile grid.

We will be ordering some new rectangular tables this fiscal year. In the coming years, we will continue to make improvements to the physical facilities. All of this is possible through our stewardship efforts. Thank you.

Tickets are being purchased online for our 45th Anniversary/Love Thy Neighbor Celebration. Tickets are also available at our parish office during regular parish office hours. I hope that the summer months offer each one of you an opportunity for some rest and re-creation. Take some time to be outdoors and enjoy the beauty of our Garden State. Have a great week.
