Hello silence my old friend‌ Diverging from music for a moment, this week’s focus will be on sacred silence. The absence of organized sound is just as important as the moments of oration and music in the church. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal calls for periods of silence during the Mass: 56. The Liturgy of the Word is to be celebrated in such a way as to favor meditation, and so any kind of haste such as hinders recollection is clearly to be avoided. In the course of it, brief periods of silence are also appropriate, accommodated to the assembled congregation; by means of these, under the action of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God may be grasped by the heart and a response through prayer may be prepared. It may be appropriate to observe such periods of silence, for example, before the Liturgy of the Word itself begins, after the First and Second Reading, and lastly at the conclusion of the Homily. The reason for these periods of silence is evident in the paragraph from the General Instruction. In addition to these called for by the Universal Church, there are additional periods of silence that must be observed. Above all, sacred silence must be observed in sacred space. Whenever a person enters the church, they are to remain in silence. When we enter the church prior to Mass, we sit or kneel, and we pray. We do not engage in conversation or other noisy activity. This is true before Mass, during Mass (except when we are in communal prayer or song), and after Mass. After the final blessing and dismissal, there is sometimes a hymn, sometimes an instrumental recessional, sometimes no music. Regardless of what happens after the dismissal, silence is paramount. For those who sing the final hymn (and that should be all of us), we do so in fervent praise to the Lord. For those who choose to leave after the priest departs from the church, they should do so in silence. Hold the conversation for outside the sacred space. Likewise, when the hymn or instrumental piece has concluded, it should echo in the silence of the space. Conversation is inappropriate and applause is even worse! There is no performance, only worship. To break that silence prevents those who wish to pray from doing so in a reverent manner. To applaud a person is to wrongly shift the focus from Almighty God to a humble servant. When you come to Mass, whether at your home church or otherwise, remember to sing, remember the silence, and remember why you are there: your offerings to God, and communal worship with your fellow Catholics.

Summer RE Registration has started Families must be registered active parishioners whose children have been in the Religious Education program for at least one year (with the exception of first graders). However, all families must be registered active ("bona fide") parishioners for 1 year prior to enrolling.
Outline of Process for completing RE Registration Obtain a My Own Church (MOC) Login Request student(s) session & class through the MOC portal Once request is received by RE office, it will be verified and processed, then, an invoice will be created for payment, and be emailed back to family. This email/Invoice will include web link to make payments through the Online Giving interface.
Submit payment through the Online Giving link provided in invoice email. Please note, a student’s placement is not regarded as certain until payment is made. A final verification will be sent to confirm placement and that the process is complete.
Summer Intensive classes are for students entering grades 1-6 September 2019. Classes run Monday through Friday for 2 weeks from 8:30 am -12:30 pm. Admission is on a first come first serve basis. Classes closed when they fill. We encourage you to register early. Summer Intensive 1 : July 22 – 26 & 29 – August 2 Summer Intensive 2 : August 12 – 16 & 19 - 23 Summer Tuition remains the same as last year, $300 per student. Summer Registration starts February 1, 2019. Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Community of Saint Luke understood that being poor (that is, weeping, hungry) didn’t exclude one from God’s blessing. Today, the radicalness of this gospel involves the question whether our lives are oriented to God. Luke’s audience was concerned with what they thought were the signs of God’s blessings. Jesus challenges them and us to be rooted in the source of blessing: God who blesses all those who trust. Trusting in God is not some naïve platitude. Nor is trusting in God something we pay lip service to and then go about our daily routine. The reversals in this gospel are startling reminders that what is of this life is neither lasting nor what we ought to be concerned about. Trusting in God is a stance that shapes all aspects of our being and of our participation in our family, workplace, and community. God is the center of our life; as such, God blesses us and in turn we can be a blessing to others. Many thanks to you for your cooperation as we adjust the Eucharistic Communion Procession. This adjustment will enable us to better serve you especially when we are missing ministers. It enables each minister to support one another without excess movement. Please remember that regardless of the number of host ministers it is important to form two lines so that there is an alternating movement for the minister of the precious blood. Also many thanks for your cooperation as the ushers use the same aisles to help facilitate the Weekly Sunday
Stewardship Offering. When the Masses are less subscribed it is important that the basket be passed by the congregants. It is my hope that we will develop the area near the Most Blessed Sacrament Reservation Chapel for those who are unable to process forward to receive Holy Communion. I recognize that adjustments such as this are never easy. I trust in your openness as we strive to serve you the best ways we can. We will have space for wheel chairs and motorized seats as well as chairs with arms to assist with standing and sitting. I hope to have this in place Fall of 2019. More to come on that as the time draws near. Thanks again! Our Parish Religious Education ReRegistration/Registration for the Summer Intensive Programs continues to progress nicely. Thanks to all those who have already begun the process. Please do not procrastinate. This program is becoming very popular with our families. I am confident that we will max out our enrollment. Thanks for being pro-active. Please consult the bulletin for our Bible Study on the Prophets, and two presentations offered by our own Dr. Jim Bridges. The Catholic Men’s Rally is coming up soon. Some of our parishioners have participated in past years and have found it to be a rewarding opportunity. Some have participated with their sons to encourage them in their spiritual development. FAITH TO MOVE MOUNTAINS ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN UPDATE FTMM update as of February 4, 2019: Total raised: $1,375,774 Pledges/gifts: 197 Average gift: $ 6,983.62 Paid pledges: $ 826,180 NOTE: 30% of all paid pledges come back as a rebate to the parish and go into a restricted fund to be used only for the 3 items described in the case statement. The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) for 2016, 2017 & 2018 was included for those who made a gift to FTMM. This year the ACA is back and will be run parish wide.
