Communion Procession Beginning this weekend, we will be following a different pattern for the procession to Holy Communion. Consultations with the parish staff, trustees, finance and parish councils, led to the conclusion to alter the procession about a year or so ago. Our previous procession had the congregation move toward the sanctuary via the center aisle and the ambulatory aisles, returning to the pews via the side (diagonal) aisles. Our new procession will invert that pattern, with the congregation approaching via the side aisles and returning via either the center or ambulatory aisles. The reason for this is two-fold. First, the aisles tend to be more crowded upon returning to the pews, rather than when processing to the ministers. Separating the return aisles will alleviate this congestion. Secondly, we are often faced with a shortage of extraordinary ministers of holy communion, and this new configuration will enable us to be more flexible in the number of ministers needed at Mass, while still providing communion under both species as frequently as possible. At Masses with lower attendance, the effects may seem minimal. But, when the church becomes fuller, especially as we get closer to Easter and other Holy Days, a notable improvement will be evident. The staff thanks you for your cooperation and assistance in our new endeavor. May God Bless.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The dynamic of the first reading and gospel is theophany—call. This suggests that in our own lives we must be tuned into God’s theophanies for each time God makes divine presence known there is a call to follow. If we look for shaking doorframes, billowing smoke, and large catches of fish we will miss God’s theophanies! The gospel invites us to look to the simple manifestations of holiness that indicate the presence of God, for example, in the generosity of so many volunteers, in the faithfulness of husbands and wives, in the unselfishness of pastoral workers, in the uncomplaining suffering of the sick, in the gracious wisdom of the elderly. Our yes response to the call within these theophanies is to imitate these good behaviors and by doing so we extend God’s reign. Living the paschal mystery means we respond to God’s call—fulfill our baptismal commitment—in these little, everyday things. The astonishing thing about this good news is that we are all made worthy simply because God calls. We have had an extraordinary number of Christian Burials since the new year. Some have lived a long life while others died at an early age. Let us continue to support those families who grieve the death of a loved one. Our Lazarus Ministers have been wonderful in assisting these families and representing our parish community to them. I am also grateful to those who facilitate the Bereavement Ministry. These are ways we can accompany those who may be vulnerable
following the death of a loved one. May the Grace of God given to us in Christ Jesus be the source of our selfless efforts. This coming week we are hosting a dance for adults. This is one way in which we can celebrate our parish community. It is my hope that seasoned parishioners as well as new parishioners might come to know one another better while having some fun. We continue to collect blessed palm that you may have in your home as we prepare for the Lenten Season. The receptacles are located in the Narthex (Gathering Area) of the Church for your convenience. Last week we hosted our Parish Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. I am grateful to all those who sacrifice their time and talent serving in this ministry both here in the Church as well as those who serve ministering to the Sick and Homebound Parishioners. We are offering training for Altar Servers. We have been very blessed with our current servers. It is my hope that we will be able to train an additional 12-20 for this important ministry. I appeal to the parents to support their children in their discernment. I greet in a special way all of our sick and homebound parishioners. You have a special place in our common prayer. Please pray for our parish community as we strive to live the Gospel and build the Kingdom of God. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

SPUR/Special People United to Ride The next general meeting for the Martha Mary Guild on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, will focus on ‘SPUR/Special People United to Ride’. It is a non-profit that was established in 1981 partnered with the Monmouth County Park System to support the therapeutic equestrian programs at Sunnyside Recreation Area known as ‘The Equestrian Center’, which is located on Middletown-Lincroft Road, Middletown, NJ, ‘The Sunnyside Recreation Area’ is comprised of 135 acres. The Equestrian Center facility opened in 2002 as a resource for all types of riders, horse owners. With more than a dozen horses, the facility specializes in equestrian programs for people with physical and cognitive disabilities including: ADD, ADHD, Autism, Bipolar Disorder, Blindness, Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Cystic Fibrosis, Developmental Delays, Downs Syndrome, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Scoliosis, Spinal Cord Injuries, and Tourette Syndrome. The freedom of riding and handling a horse can provide improved physical, emotional and psychological benefits. Sunnyside’s professional team and trained volunteers help students work to improve self-esteem, social skills, balance, muscle tone and posture, and to process sensory messages sent to the brain. Riding a horse provides a variety of physical, emotional, and psychological stimuli. Students meet weekly and work to achieve personal goals with a tailored program of equestrian activities. Participants may begin riding at age 4 and continue through adulthood. When not working in lessons, the horses can be found outside in herds. All the horses are ‘barefoot’ (shoeless) and slow feeder hay bags are used. The varied terrain and a turnout track help create the most natural living environment possible. Why not take a drive and visit with family, children, grandchildren to see this special place!?! Come to the meeting and you will learn more about it. The rosary is at 11:00 a.m. in the Spiritual Center Chapel and BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) will follow in Madonna Hall. There will be special desserts provided by generous members of the Guild. The program will begin around 12:30.
Members are asked to bring contributions for “Fulfill” from the list.
