Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent. Some success John was: he diverted attention from himself to Jesus and ended up beheaded for his efforts!

Proclaimed repentance, prepared for Jesus, died—this is the pattern of John’s life. Actually, it’s the pattern of Jesus’ life, too: proclaimed, prepared the way to the Father, died. Further, it’s the pattern of our own paschal mystery living: proclaim the gospel of repentance, prepare for Christ’s second coming, die to ourselves. Our being baptized “with the Holy Spirit” enables us to do the work of God, for in baptism our lives are grafted onto Christ. In baptism we become heralds, like John, of Christ’s redeeming presence in our world. By our Christian living (blamelessly and with righteousness) we proclaim how we prepare for Christ’s second coming. But even more: being baptized in the Spirit makes us members of Christ’s very body. We not only point to Christ, but we also make present the Christ who dwells in us!

Many thanks to all those who prepared our Annual Parish Advent Penance & Reconciliation Service. The Church building was completely filled with a few dozen people standing! I am grateful to our parishioner parents for presenting their children for First Penance & Reconciliation and to the other parents for encouraging their children to celebrate this important sacrament of God’s Mercy. The 15 Priest confessors enabled us to serve your needs in a timely manner. As these priests come to our parish to assist, I will be going to other parishes during the Season of Advent to assist in serving those parishioners.

This weekend we welcome His Excellency, The Most Reverend David M. O’Connell, CM, Bishop of Trenton, for a pastoral visit. His Excellency will celebrate and offer the homily at the 10 am Mass on Sunday. This is a time for the Bishop to visit parishes and interact with parishioners. I hope that his schedule will permit some time at

the Advent Pancake Breakfast.

This coming week is the annual “signing of the books” at the Chancery Office. Each year the pastor presents the Sacramental Register Books for inspection by the County Episcopal Vicar and the “Corporate Resolutions” re-appointing the pastor as Secretary-Treasurer and two members of the parish congregation as “Lay Trustees” by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, or his delegate. This year, following consultation, I have nominated parishioners William F. LaMorte & Irene Weller to serve as our Parish Trustees for a one year term. These appointments may be renewed annually 5x for a maximum of six years. Both nominations will be approved by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton’s Vicar General. I am grateful to Irene and Bill for their willingness to serve our parish in this important role.

Next weekend is our Annual Light Up A Memory Mass and Tree Lighting on Saturday, 16 December at 4:00 pm Mass. Join with us for Mass and the tree lighting followed by refreshments. The Annual Memory Book will be in the Gathering area throughout the Advent and Christmas Liturgical Seasons. There is a special Mass Schedule for the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Saturday, 23 December/Sunday Morning 24 December). Please consult the bulletin for details.

For Christmas Eve/Day we will have additional seating to accommodate an increased number of people choosing to worship with us. Please review our worship for the Solemnity of Christmas as well as the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (New Years). Please consider car -pooling for Christmas Eve Masses, especially the 3:00 pm & 4:30 pm celebrations. Arrive early so that you will not be rushed and can easily park your vehicle and find a seat for you and your family. More to come…. Have a great week.

FALL Clean-Up THANK YOU!!

We accomplished much work with 61 volunteers. Thank you Parishioners, Scouts and ROTC Cadets for your coming together at the Fall Clean up held at the parish on Saturday Nov 26, 2017. Your willingness to give your time made a difference in the condition of the parish grounds. We lucked out. The weather was warm and beautiful for a late November day!! All the tall grasses in the parking lot and at the grotto were cut back. The bell tower and chapel gardens were weeded and trimmed back, leaves, pine cones, debris and branches were collected from rear of buildings and on the North side of the property and Christmas decorations were moved from the garages and shed to the parish buildings.

Much was accomplished indeed! Thank you to all who brought equipment – blowers, trucks, tools and tarps that helped make the clean-up run more smoothly.

Christmas Celebration for the Martha Mary Guild Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 will be a very special meeting for the Martha Mary Guild, with wonderful entertainment and holiday treats. The Matinee Idols, who are a talented group of Barber Shop singers, will delight us with their songs and sing-alongs: which are always fun – so bring your singing voices!

A very important part of this annual event is the collection of baby gifts for Birth Right remembering the message of sharing and “good will toward men” at Christmas. Members generously contribute baby clothes, diapers, blankets, etc. for newborns.

There will be eggnog and delicious Christmas goodies to top off your BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch). Join us in the Spiritual Center Chapel at 11:30 a.m. for the rosary and then we will proceed into Madonna Hall for our lunch and festivities – including some surprises!! Everyone is welcome!

“Light Up a Memory” Tree Lighting Ceremony Saturday, Dec. 16, after the 4 pm Mass All are invited to the joyous tree lighting ceremony outside at the Memory Tree.

Join us for music by our choir and a reception, with delicious refreshments in the Gathering Space.
