FOR DEEPER REFLECTION If we believe, we will be saved. Question for Children: What does God’s voice sound like when you pray and listen to Jesus? Question for Youth: In today’s Gospel, Peter began to walk on the water when he was focused on Jesus. He began to sink when he got distracted by the storm. What is your life like when you are focused on Jesus and your relationship with God? How is it different when you get caught up in other things? Question for Adults: Tell about your experiences of hearing God speak in “tiny voices” rather than in the winds and earthquakes of life.

Please pray for our Military & First Responders Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Are You Registered at St. Mary Parish? We are always happy to welcome new parishioners and families to our parish community. To maintain accurate parish records and foster active participation in parish life, all new and returning parishioners are required to complete the parish registration process, including attendance at a New Parishioner Orientation. Please note that children who were previously included under their parents' parish registration are not considered registered parishioners indefinitely. Once an individual reaches age 25 or becomes emancipated and establishes himself or herself as an independent adult, that person is expected to register independently in the parish where he or she resides. This requirement applies even if the adult child continues to live at the same address as his or her parents. Because parish registration is maintained by household, adult children who have formed their own families must register as a separate household. Certain parish services and privileges, including the issuance of sponsor eligibility certificates for Baptism and Confirmation or enrollment in our Religious Education program, require active parishioner status and completed parish registration. If you are unsure of your registration status or would like to begin the registration process, please contact the parish office. We look forward to helping you become an active and engaged member of our parish family. "Registration is more than filling out a form. It is a commitment to participate in the worship, mission, and life of our parish community."

WORSHIP & MUSIC St. Clare of Assisi: A Light of Faith and Simplicity On August 11, the Church celebrates the memorial of St. Clare of Assisi, virgin. Born into a wealthy Italian family in 1194, Clare was inspired by the preaching and example of St. Francis of Assisi. At just eighteen years old, she left behind a life of comfort and privilege to dedicate herself completely to Christ. Together with St Francis, she established the Order of Poor Ladies, now known as the Poor Clares, embracing a life of poverty, prayer, and joyful dependence on God. Clare led her community with remarkable wisdom and courage for more than forty years, remaining steadfast in faith even through illness and hardship. St. Clare understood that true riches are found not in possessions, but in a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. Her life was marked by humility, trust, and an unwavering commitment to prayer. She believed that the more closely we fix our gaze on Christ, the more fully we become the people God created us to be. Her example reminds us that holiness is not reserved for a select few, but is the vocation of every Christian, lived out through faithfulness in the ordinary moments of daily life. In today's fast-paced and materialistic world, St. Clare's witness remains quite relevant. She invites us to simplify our lives, place our confidence in God rather than in worldly success, and make time each day for prayer and quiet reflection. Whether we are raising families, serving our communities, or carrying the burdens of everyday life, St. Clare reminds us that lasting peace comes from seeking Christ above all else. May her example inspire us to live with greater faith, generosity, and joyful trust in the Lord.

SAINT OF THE WEEK -Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, d. c. 258 Lawrence was appointed a deacon under Pope Saint Sixtus II. It was Lawrence’s job to handle the treasury, distribute alms to the poor, and take care of the sick, of which more than 1,000 were under the care of the Church at this time. In 257, Emperor Valerian issued an edict against all Christians. A year later, Pope Sixtus was arrested and led off to be executed. It is written that Lawrence followed the Pope, weeping, and asked him, “Father, where are you going without your deacon?” The pope replied, “I do not leave you my son. You shall soon follow me.” Lawrence was overjoyed to think that God would soon call him. READ MORE HERE

Quo vadis... My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Most of us will not have the experience of Peter—nothing in our human experience leads us to expect that we will ever walk on water! But that is not the goal of faith or of Christian living. Worship is. The real challenge is to see in this gospel the way we might encounter Jesus in our everyday lives—not as One walking on water, but as One who dwells in the other in need. In a sense, then, our paschal mystery living reverses the roles and we are the ones called to see Jesus in anyone who is calling out for help, anyone who seems to be “drowning” in the chaos of everyday living, anyone who cries out to be saved. In this reversed situation the homage doesn’t come to us for any good we might do, but our response to those in need is an act of homage of the God whom we serve in the other. It takes more faith to see Jesus in the other than to walk on water! This, because it demands a great self-emptying on our part to see dignity in those in need. But this is also the glimpse of the life that comes out of our dying—serving another is an encounter with Jesus, the One who saves.
This solemnity is also the principal Patron of the Diocese of Trenton. Let us pray in a special way for His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, and all those who serve the People of God in Central New Jersey. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary may we continue to grow in holiness and service. Masses this year will be celebrated in the Chapel. Last weekend we welcomed the August Module for our RE Summer Intensive Program for grade levels 1 – 6. This is the second of two sessions offered by our parish. Let us continue to pray for all those parents, family members and catechists who pass on our faith to the coming generations.
I am grateful to all those who have made a gift or pledge in support of the 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal. Together we have reached our goal. Please continue to Last weekend we welcomed new families to our make your pledge payments until you parish community. They took time from their have completed the commitment. busy schedules to participate in the New Parishioner Orientation. This is a time when our parish staff persons share what is offered here in our parish to support our members. Likewise, expectations are shared as to what is expected from those who are members. I am grateful to all those who participated and those who prepared the presentations. May we continue to grow in our love of God and increase our identity as stakeholders in our parish. This coming week we observe the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 15 August. Please consult the Worship Schedule for mass opportunities both here and at Saint Catherine, Holmdel.
Work continues on phase three of the floor tile upgrade/replacement. We are celebrating masses in the church this weekend. Please bear with us. I expect the majority of the work to be completed by 15 August. All of the workers and suppliers have been great and very understanding of our particular needs. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
