Missionary Co-op Weekend is August 19/20, 2017 Fr. Mathieu Herve Mboudou is from the diocese of Yaoundé/Cameroon and he will be speaking to us at all Masses about the work they do with the poor in Cameroon, and also about the needs of the poor.

The diocese of Yaoundé created the program called “The Poor Too Are God’s Children” with the aim of creating opportunities for women, kids, orphans, handicapped, poor and the marginalized who are often forgotten. This program desires to supply things like water, education, shelter, medication and food to thousands of people especially kids who suffer and at times die as a direct result of the lack of clean water.

“I will like to share the story of Essomba Stephanie which will give you an idea of what young people are exposed to on daily basis in Cameroon.” Essomba Stephanie was a promising young girl who wanted to become an engineer. She was at the top of her class in the elementary school she attended in her small village near Akono. Every morning before school she had to wake up at 5 am, and she had to walk approximately 3 miles to fetch water in the nearby river for her parents and for herself to take a shower. She also had to walk 5 miles to school. But after losing both parents at age 10, she dropped out of school because of hunger. Sadly, the fate of Essouma and Ndi are very common not only in Akono but across Africa.

The second collection will be therefore to help people like Essomba to have an education, and will also help to supply clean water to thousands of people who lack access to clean water. Your donation will also enable to supply mosquitoes net to pregnant women amongst others. Together we can make the world a better place by creating opportunities for the marginalized.

Little Church will begin September 10th during the 10 am Mass

Registration of returning students will NOT be accepted after August 31, 2017, midnight.

Children post-diaper through school age are welcome to join Mrs. Lisa Colaco & assistants at Little Church during the 10AM Mass in room # 10.

Children will have a Bible story lesson, craft, and lesson related snack each week.

Progression to the next grade level will ONLY occur upon completion and passing of prior grade level!

Sometimes we sing songs, play games and have free play.

What is the Transfiguration?

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Transfiguration is: “The mysterious event in which Jesus, speaking with Moses and Elijah on the mountain, was transformed in appearance – in the sight of Peter, James, and John – as a moment of disclosure of His divine glory” (CCC, Glossary, pp. 901-902; 554).

The English word “Transfiguration” comes from the Latin word “transfigurare” (pronounced tranz-fig-you-ra-ray). The first part of the Latin word, “trans” means “change;” and the Latin word “figura” (pronounced fig-goo-ra) means “figure” OR “appearance.” These words combine to describe what happened to Jesus at this event: Jesus’ appearance (figure) changed. The Greek text uses the word metamorphosis (pronounced met-tamor-foe-sis, meaning “to change form, shape, or appearance”) to describe the change or transformation that occurred in Our Lord at this momentous occasion.

Please do join in the songs and prayers of the community! Liturgical music is there to praise God and as Catholics we are encouraged to actively and consciously participate during Mass. If you think your singing will distract others, or you do not quite know the hymn or prayers, a soft tone is fine.

It is sufficient to receive under either Eucharistic species (the Body or Blood) to truly receive Communion. So if you “forgot” one species or the Precious Blood ran out – you received full Communion.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. Jesus’ transfigured glory foreshadows his glorious resurrection, a new life that was his because he faithfully did the will of his Father, even to the point of suffering and dying. If we wish to share in this same transfigured glory, we must be equally faithful in surrendering our will to God’s will, to living the gospel, to be willing to die to self for the good of others. The transfiguration of Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is already here. We help establish that kingdom when we die to self and rise with Christ in glory.

The cost of Christian Discipleship is not something that we would naturally embrace.

This gospel passage motivates us to be disciples because we already see what becomes of the faithful disciple: he or she is transformed into glory. The challenge to our everyday living is that our life be transfigured (transformed) so that when people see US, they see JESUS! Last weekend, we were treated to the voices of our children and young people who participated in our First Summer Choir Camp. I received many positive comments from congregants at the Saturday, 5:00 pm Mass. Several parents also expressed their appreciation for this new initiative to include children and young people in our Sacred Worship. Our parish staff persons continue to work diligently offering these programs and many others throughout each year. None of this is possible without YOU, the faithful parishioners of our parish community who support us with your stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure. Together we strive to offer the very best. I am grateful to you for the warm welcome extended to my friend, Fr. Carlo, during his brief visit. It was good for us to re-connect face to face. He invited me to visit

him this Fall in Rome, but my schedule through February 2018 is already filled up. I think that Fr. Carlo will visit again next Summer. Let us pray for him as he oversees very important archaeological projects for the Holy See and as he continues to supervise doctoral candidates studying Theology.

This weekend we welcome in a special way those families who are participating in our Summer Session Religious Education Intensive.

There is an orientation immediately following the 12:00 noon Mass for all parents and students. Let us pray for these young people, their parents, those catechists responsible for teaching them our Catholic Doctrine, and the many volunteers who offer their support of this program. As a reminder, during the Summer Session program our parish facilities will be secured with limited access during those times.

This is in accordance with the established principles and norms for maintaining a safe environment as expected by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.

Tickets are being purchased for our Love Thy Neighbor/45th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Parish Church Campus. This event is being sponsored by the Alice and Dave Kay Family and hosted by Juan and Marta Gutierrez Family at their farm located in Colts Neck.

There are many sponsorship opportunities as well as opportunities for families to have their name listed in the Commemorative Journal. I am grateful to the committee for all of their efforts as we celebrate the faith and outreach of this Catholic Community. Have a great week.

21 attendees and volunteers participated in the July 25 Sewing Workshop hosted by the Sewing Circle of Saint Mary Parish.

Participants made 34 pillows in all, 22 of which will be donated to Centra State Hospital (17), Daniela’s Wish (5) by Girl Scout Troop 649. Participants also made a pillow to take home.
