Fr. Mathieu Herve Mboudou is from the Diocese of Yaoundé/Cameroon and he will be speaking to us at all Masses about the work they do with the poor in Cameroon, and also about the needs of the poor.

The diocese of Yaoundé created the program called “The Poor Too Are God’s Children” with the aim of creating opportunities for women, kids, orphans, handicapped, poor and the marginalized who are often forgotten. This program desires to supply things like water, education, shelter, medication and food to thousands of people especially kids who suffer and at times die as a direct result of the lack of clean water.

Those in Active Military Service God of compassion, we pray for military personnel, offered for the sake of others, and separated from family and loved ones.

Care for them; meet their needs.

Grant them courage, compassion, strength, and all they need for the living of these days.

Sustain them through their every trial.

Remind them of the humanity they share even with those who are called "the enemy;" through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray.

Amen.

“I will like to share the story Ndi which will give you an idea of what young people are exposed to on daily basis in Cameroon.

Ndi was 7 years old when her father died from HIV/AIDS. Unable to provide for Ndi and her two siblings by herself, the mother withdrew her from school and “leased” her as domestic labor to a wealthy family.

Instead of school, the 7year-old started working as housemaid for food and a salary to help her siblings. Sadly, the fate of Essouma and Ndi are very common not only in Akono but across Africa.”

FAITH TO MOVE MOUNTAINS ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN Saint Mary Parish MINIMUM goal, as established by the Diocese of Trenton, was $1,250,000 in which we included 3 years of the parish’s contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal.

However the parish’s NECESSARY goal is $2,250,000. 70% of all gifts received after reaching our minimum goal come back to the parish and will go into a restricted fund to be used only for the 3 items in the case statement.

732-780-0135 Aquarium Field Trip August started out hot and sunny, but our students were able to beat the heat by taking a trip to the Point Pleasant Aquarium. There they were able to learn about all the animals that live in our waters. They were able to touch and feel some of the creatures they may see while playing near the ocean and were eager to explore and learn.

2017-2018 Religious Ed Fall Program Grades 1-8 Registration of returning students will NOT be accepted after August 31, 2017, midnight.

Progression to the next grade level will ONLY occur upon completion and passing of prior grade level!

Little Church will begin September 10th during the 10 am Mass Children post-diaper through school age are welcome to join Mrs. Lisa Colaco and assistants at Little Church during the Sunday 10 am Mass in room # 10.

Parish hosts first choir camp for children, teenagers Children and teenagers looking to hone their music skills, while having fun, have attended the inaugural choir camp being hosted by the music ministry in Saint Mary Parish, Colts Neck. Forty-Five attendees learned how to read music, develop healthy vocal techniques, conduct, sight read, chant and play handbells. “They also learned about hymns and polyphony through engaging in activities, games and group lessons, all while “reinforcing the beliefs and cultures of our Catholic faith,” said Lauren Walters, parish music minister.

Camp instructors and their topics included: Paul Bergin, director of music in St. Michael Parish, West End, and organist for the Trenton Diocesan Festival Choir, Kodaly exercises and polyphony; Peter Carter, director of music for the Extraordinary Form in St. John the Baptist Parish, Allentown, chant; Shawn Mack, director of music and performing arts co-chair in Red Bank Catholic High School, director of sacred music in St. Anthony of Padua Parish Red Bank, and director of the Diocesan Festival Choir, solfeggio and rhythm/conducting; Andrew Macirowski, pastoral coordinator of liturgy and organist in St. Mary Parish, handbells and sight reading, and Lauren Walters, vocal techniques and hymnody/polyphony.

Clothing/Linen Sale Coming Up for the Martha Mary Guild Pictured are some of the many members who faithfully help to run the annual Clothing/ Linen Sale sponsored by the Martha Mary Guild. This year’s “Bargain Fest” will be held on Thursday, September 7 from 10 am to 6 pm, Friday, September 8 from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, September 9 from 9 am to 1 pm. There will be a great assortment of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories in Madonna Hall in the Spiritual Center, which is the building behind the Church. The Parish Hall will feature the “Boutique”, which carries designer and new clothes, linens and the “Jewelry Corner”. Be sure to mark your calendars, because you won’t want to miss this big event!

Donations of clean, slightly used items, in good condition will be gratefully accepted in Madonna Hall starting on Saturday, August 26 until Sunday, September 3.

All proceeds from this annual sale benefit organizations that help women and children.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Most of us will not have the experience of Peter— nothing in our human experience leads us to expect that we will ever walk on water! But that is not the goal of faith or of Christian living. Worship is. The real challenge is to see in this gospel the way we might encounter Jesus in our everyday lives—not as One walking on water, but as One who dwells in the other in need. In a sense, then, our paschal mystery living reverses the roles and we are the ones called to see Jesus in anyone who is calling out for help, anyone who seems to be “drowning” in the chaos of everyday living, anyone who cries out to be saved. In this reversed situation, the homage does not come to us for any good we might do, but our response to those in need is an act of homage of the God whom we serve in the other. It takes more faith to see Jesus in the other than to walk on water! This, because it demands a great self-emptying on our part to see dignity in those in need. But this is also the glimpse of the life that comes out of our dying— serving another is an encounter with Jesus, the One who saves.

This coming week, we observe the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 15 August. Please consult the Worship Schedule for Mass opportunities.

This Solemnity is also the principal Patron of the Diocese of Trenton. Let us pray in a special way for His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, and all those who serve the People of God in Central New Jersey.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary may we continue to grow in holiness and service.

Next weekend we will welcome to our parish Reverend Fr. Mathieu Herve Mboudou of the Diocese of Yaoundé/Cameroon . Father is here as part of the Mission Cooperative of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

There will be a second collection to support the church’s missionary activity. Checks may be made payable to Saint Mary Parish. Thank you for your kind and generous support of those serving in the missions, especially the foreign missions.

Preparations continue for the upcoming Religious Education Year. Re-Registration will end this month. No re-registrations will be accepted after this month. (Re-Registration for Fall programs began May 1st. Please act today to provide for your children and family.)

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word dismissal each Sunday is a valuable component in forming our children in the faith while at the same time building community among them in the context of the Sunday (Saturday Eve) celebration of the Mass. This week we continue with the second week of the August RE Summer Intensive Program for grade levels 1 – 6. This is the second of two sessions offered by our parish.

Let us continue to pray for all those parents, family members and catechists who pass on our faith to the coming generations.

Preparations continue for our Love Thy Neighbor/45th Anniversary Celebration.

Healing Hearts Support Group If you know someone going through or has gone through a divorce, make sure he or she knows about us. Our next session will begin on Wednesday, September 6th from 7:30 PM -9:30 PM at St. Veronica's ACTS Office (rectory basement) located at 4215 Route 9, Howell, NJ 07731. This is a 12 week program for those who have suffered or are suffering from separation and/or divorce. The Catholic's Divorce Survival Guide program incorporates a DVD and follow-up discussion. Topics that are discussed are: shock, anger, peace, forgiveness, family issues, money, trust, dating, annulments and life beyond divorce.
