Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The RCIA process involves not just the newcomer or "inquirer" but all the members of the community who by prayer and personal example help the inquirer find his or her place in the Church.

The 2022 Mass Intention Book will open on Sunday August 29, 2021 for date specific Mass Intentions within the 2022 year. This year requests can be made via paper or online. Requests will be time stamped when received to provide order of entry into the new year book. Ash Wednesday, Christmas, Easter and the Sacred Triduum are not available for intentions. It is appropriate for you or the family of the deceased to attend the mass when celebrated. The suggested stipend for a mass Intention is $10.00 and has been set by the N.J. Bishops in the Province of Newark. Stipend can be paid by cash, check, or credit card. Every effort will be made to satisfy all requests, however in some cases the intention availability for a date you are requesting may be filled and you will be asked to choose another date. After the initial Mass Book opening, requests may be submitted using this multi-intention form, online, or a Mass Request Envelope. Availability of dates is on a first-come first served basis. Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church A Christian at 33, a priest at 36, a bishop at 41: Many people are familiar with the biographical sketch of Augustine of Hippo, sinner turned saint. But to get to really know the man is a rewarding experience. There quickly surfaces the intensity with which he lived his life, whether his path led away from or toward God. The tears of his mother, Saint Monica who prayed constantly for his conversion, the instructions of Saint Ambrose and, most of all, God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures, eventually redirected Augustine’s love of life to a life of love, a complete turnaround from one who once wanted nothing to do with God or Jesus. His early life of decadence, filled with drinking, loose living, parties and abandonment followed by his subsequent conversion have led him to the patron saint of those struggling with or recovering from addiction. In his day, Augustine providentially fulfilled the office of prophet. Like Jeremiah and other greats, he was hard-pressed but could not keep quiet. “I say to myself, I will not mention him/I will speak in his name no more/But then it becomes like fire burning in my heart/imprisoned in my bones/I grow weary holding it in/I cannot endure it” (Jeremiah 20:9). Sacred Relics Of The Saints: Treasures Of The Church
St. Ann Parish presents a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics on Thursday September 16 at 6:30 PM. Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross will be here with an extraordinary Vatican collection of over 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Ann, St. Joseph, St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. There will also be a portion of the Veil of Our Lady and one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. Throughout history, many healings have been worked in the presence of relics; and thousands have occurred through this ministry. Do not miss this opportunity. God's law meant to bring freedom, not lifelong 'servitude,' Pope says The purpose of the law in Christian life is not to forcibly subjugate others, but to teach men and women the way to obtain true freedom in Christ, Pope Francis said during his weekly general audience. The "function of the law is certainly positive but limited in time," the Pope said Aug. 18 to those gathered in the Paul VI audience hall at the Vatican. "It cannot extend its duration too far, because it is linked to the maturation of individuals and their choice of freedom," he said. The Pope continued his series of talks on St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians and focused on St. Paul's assessment of the role the law plays in Christians' lives. Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. It’s easier to clean the pots and pans than to clean one’s heart! It’s also easy to dismiss this gospel because our tradition has never emphasized this kind of ritual impurity. Yet, the gospel hits home closer than we may think. What traditions do we blindly cling to? Perhaps it is enough for us just to go to Mass on Sunday; after all, this is what most of us grew up doing. Or perhaps we cling to rote prayers that we learned as a child rather than stretch our relationship with God to find new prayer expressions. Perhaps we relegate God in our lives to an hour on Sunday. We need to look at the way we live, and this will tell us whether we have hearts truly turned toward God—all the time. Purity of heart is expressed in righteous living— self-giving for the sake of others. This is how we have life.
His Holiness, Pope Francis has declared 1 September as a day for us to remember the gifts of creation, especially the earth and all that the earth offers to sustain our everyday living. Building upon the landmark encyclical Laudato si, the Holy Father invites us to pray in a special way for a greater awareness of all creation, human life and the environment in which we live. This call is not one of political or social correctness, but rather one of a moral imperative recognizing that God has set humankind over creation. Therefore, we have a moral obligation to respect all that has been created and work for greater respect of all creation. Some of the practical ways we are striving to become more environmentally conscious here at our parish campus has been: reduced flow fixtures in our restrooms; motion sensor lighting controls; programmable internet hosted thermostats; scheduling activities in space appropriate locations; replacing existing light fixtures with energy efficient LED fixtures; retrofitting older HVAC units with economizers for fresh air intake; caring for / replacing / managing plantings throughout
our campus; install of water fountain with bottle refill component; the installation of the solar farm along the north east boundary of the property. May our deliberate respect for God’s many gifts found in the created order inspire others to work for just environmental policies. Next weekend we observe the Civic Holiday recognizing the dignity of Human Labor. We will observe the abbreviated mass schedule: Saturday 5:00pm & Sunday 10:00am. Let us remember all those who labor for the common good. Let us also pray for a continued increase in the working conditions for all laborers. The parish office will be closed on Monday and mass will be celebrated at 9:00am in the chapel. This might be a good time for me to reiterate the importance of parents accompanying their children to mass each Sunday and for Holy Days; dressing appropriately, arriving on time, remaining until the final blessing are all ways that we witness to the importance of Sunday Eucharist in the life of every Catholic. For those who have not participated in the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal, please do so as soon as possible. For those who have already participated, THANK YOU! A parish is the responsibility of all involved and not simply a few people. Together let us discern how God is calling us to build the Church in our midst and throughout our Diocese of Trenton. A 12-WEEK PROGRAM FOR THE DIVORCED AND SEPARATED WHAT IS IT? The program is called “Surviving Divorce: Hope and Healing for the Catholic Family”. It is a DVD series developed by Rose Sweet, a dynamic author and speaker who has developed this series to help Christians and their families heal from divorce! We meet weekly on Monday nights for twelve consecutive weeks beginning on September 13, 2021 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Mary Mother of God Church in the Chapel Basement located at 26 Leonardville Road, New Monmouth (entrance in the back).
