Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. Andrew J. Macirowski Pastoral Coordinator for Worship & Music / Principal Organist Worship@stmaryscoltsneck.org Music@stmaryscoltsneck.org As we enter Passiontide and prepare for the events of Holy Week and the great Solemnity of Easter, let us be mindful of the importance of every single day which brings us closer to the Resurrection of the Lord. To aid in the participation of these great days ahead, worship aids have been prepared for each of these days. In an effort to be good stewards of the environment, these are being made available in digital format, and can be accessed at the links below.

Palm Sunday: The Lord’s Entrance into Jerusalem and Passion Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord The Way of the Cross on Good Friday Paschal Vigil in the Holy Night Easter Sunday: The Resurrection of the Lord

SATURDAY MASS The Saturday anticipatory Mass remains at 4:00 pm through Palm Sunday (April 9).

Saturday 23 April the Spring-Summer Mass Schedule begins with the Mass time at 5:00 pm through the Summer. The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation will be at 4:00 PM

The Parish Office will be closed Sunday, April 17 in observance of Easter.

Saint of the Week: Joseph of Arimathea, Layman, First Century One of the early saints of the Church, Joseph of Arimathea is mentioned in all four of the Gospels. According to Luke 23:50, Joseph was “a virtuous and righteous man” who was “himself awaiting the kingdom of God” (Mk 15:43). He was a member of the Sanhedrin and was secretly a disciple of Jesus. Like many Christians of that time, he kept his discipleship to himself “for fear of the Jews” (Jn 19:38). When Jesus was brought before the Sanhedrin to be condemned to death, Joseph opposed their decision. After Jesus died on the cross, however, Joseph “courageously” went to Pilate and asked for his body. Pilate consented, so Joseph wrapped the body in clean linen and laid it in a new tomb which had been hewn out of rock. Read more HERE.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Lent. We are interconnected not only in grace (we are all members of the body of Christ) but also in our sinfulness. The gospel reminds us that we encounter Jesus at our own risk: we will be confronted with the truth of our own sinfulness. But also encounter with Jesus brings hope: in the confrontation and invitation to repent Jesus offers new life (see first reading). We begin the last third of the Lenten season. Even if we haven’t been all that faithful to our chosen Lenten practices, it isn’t too late now to resolve to open ourselves to encounter with Jesus so that we can approach Easter with a renewed spirit seeking new life. Like the crowd in the gospel, it is often easier for us to focus on the sins of others than on our own weaknesses. When we are closely connected with others—in family, workplace, etc.—they can easily rub us the wrong way. But also like the crowd in the gospel, we can encounter Jesus and face the truth of ourselves. Lent is a time to encounter Jesus, turn from our sinfulness in repentance, and seek divine mercy. The remarkable good news of this gospel is that by facing and repenting of our own sinfulness we establish new relations with those around us. Acknowledgment of our own sins and how we have hurt others builds us into stronger members of Christ’s body.

Our registered parishioners should have received the Easter Mailing. Please take time to review the materials and keep them in a convenient place for easy reference. Many thanks to those who have volunteered to participate in the Holy Week Services. Your generous participation adds to the prayerfulness and solemnity of our liturgical experience. Not receiving this mailer indicates that your family is not registered here in our parish. Please contact the parish office to inquire. This is a time when we

should make church, praying together as a community and celebrating the Sacraments a priority. Our Lenten Penance & Reconciliation (confessions) is scheduled for this weekend, Sunday 3 April at 3:00pm with visiting clergy present to celebrate individual confessions. Please come and make this an opportunity of grace for you in your journey of faith. Parents, please make it a priority to bring your children to this Penance & Reconciliation opportunity so that the habit of going to confession becomes part of their identity as Catholic Christians. It is a wonderful way for us to teach through example the awesomeness of God’s mercy. I encourage you to be extra hospitable in the coming weeks as we welcome visitors to our parish community for Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter Sunday. Plan to car pool when possible, try to avoid several cars from the same residence, parking on the grass along the perimeter assists us in accommodating those wishing to come and pray with us. A smile, a welcoming gesture, a word of encouragement to sing along--pray along makes all the difference. Remember someone may be in your seat! Let’s make them feel welcome too. You are the greatest asset of our parish community. In the words of the great Apostle Paul, “You are the Ambassadors for Christ to the world.” Preparations are underway for our Annual Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Sunday, 24 April at the 12noon mass and following. We do this so that we might have the best possible participation, avoiding Holy Week when our focus is on the passion and death of Christ, and recognizing that many of our families travel at this time. The Second Sunday of Easter is also the Octave Day of our Easter observance. Consult other parts of the bulletin for details. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff.

Also, because of your generosity we were able to send $2,500 to the Catholic Relief Services appeal. This weekend April 2-3 is our monthly second collection for the Building & Mortgage Reduction fund. Our monthly payment is $7,966.26. Please be generous.

Included in next weekend’s offertory will be the collection for the Holy Land appeal. "If you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted; Then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday; Then the Lord will guide you always and give you plenty even on the parched land. He will renew your strength, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails". Isaiah 58:10-11 THANK YOU for the Sacrificial Stewardship. Offerings as we support the ministries, programs and facilities of our parish. May God Bless you for the sacrifices that you make.

The 2022 Annual Catholic Appeal is well underway. To date 134 parishioners have $41,505 already pledged. This is approximately 55% of our goal of $75,000. The outpouring of support from many parishioners like you helps sustain the important ministries across the Diocese of Trenton. Our goal, $75,000, can only be achieved through YOUR generosity! If you have not yet made a gift, there are pledge forms available in the back of church, or you can visit www.dioceseoftrenton.org/ catholicappeal to send your gift electronically. Make sure to select St. Mary Catholic Church, Colts Neck in the Parish Affiliation box so we can receive credit for your gift. Your gift will truly make a difference. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Parking head-in on the grass: It is so wonderful that we are blessed with many parishioner families & visitors to our parish during Holy Week and the Triduum. Please be reminded that all staff, ministry volunteers & choir members should park head-in on the grass around the parish campus. Visitors are invited to do the same for additional parking especially on: Palm Sunday

& Easter Day

During Lent, we are asked to focus more intently on "almsgiving," which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity. As one of the three pillars of Lenten practice, almsgiving is "a witness to fraternal charity" and "a work of justice pleasing to God." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2462).
