Easter Flowers Why so many flowers in and around the sanctuary during the Easter Season?

There are several reasons why the church is decorated with flowers and other plants during the various times of the year. During Lent, you probably noticed a lack of any floral arrangement whatsoever. This helps to mark the solemnness of that penitential season. From the celebration of Easter and for the entirety of the Easter Season, spring-time flowers are used to decorate as a symbol of God’s creation, and the lilies in particular symbolize new life and the purity of Christ.

As the season carries on towards Pentecost, you will see an arrangement of yellow, orange, and red blooms, symbolizing the fire of the holy spirit.

At the conclusion of the Easter Season, more modest arrangements will appear. These will be offerings from families who are celebrating a wedding or holding a funeral, donations from parishioners, or sourced from local farms or greenhouses.

Thank you to all who have approached me in the past few weeks with feedback about these blurbs I write. If you have any liturgical questions, feel free to reach out and I will gladly answer your question here.

Fall 2018-2019 Religious Education Registration What are the particulars?

Grades available for Fall Program: Grades 1-8 (those children entering these grades in September 2018) on a first come, first serve basis. Families must be registered active parishioners whose children have been in the Religious Education program for at least one year (with the exception of first graders). However all families must be registered parishioners for 1 year prior to enrolling.

Grades 1 & 2: Two year First Penance & Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation. On-Campus Tuesdays.

Grade 3 - 6: Faith and Life On-Line Program Grade 7 & 8: Confirmation Preparation. Sunday evening Tuition:  From May 1st, 9 am through June 28th, 7:30 pm the reduced tuition of $200 per child will apply.

(Full payment must be completed by 7:30 pm June 28 to qualify for the reduced tuition)  June 28th, 7:30 pm through August 15th 7:30 pm the tuition rate of $250 a child will apply.

The registration process, including all payments, must be completed by midnight, 31 August 2018.

No Re-Registration (returning students) after midnight, 31 August 2018.

Once your registration has been received and capacity is verified an invoice will be sent back for final payment. Payment will be through the On-line Giving Interface, Pay Pal, or a one-time donation through the Parish Website. The process is completed after payments have been applied to Family Invoices.

Quo vadis...

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Easter. In the first reading the disciples were afraid to relate to Saul because of his past reputation for persecuting Christians. Barnabas, a member of the community, took Paul under his wings and witnessed to the community on his behalf. In this way was Paul accepted so he could preach the word.

Part of our living the paschal mystery—its dying and rising—is that we help others who have made mistakes and perhaps developed a bad reputation to reenter the good graces of the family or workplace or wherever. Part of our pruning is dying to our prejudices toward others and allowing them to grow in their relationship with the risen Christ. Their growth is also our growth, a deeper share in resurrected life.

This weekend we welcome those families who are presenting their children for their First Holy Communion. This is an opportunity for great celebration as these children continue their journey toward being full members of our Catholic Church when they are confirmed. I am grateful to all those who generously give of their time and talent to form these children and their families in our Catholic Faith.

I am grateful to all of our parishioners who support our parish so that we might continue to offer diverse opportunities for faith formation throughout the life cycle.

I am often asked why is it important to be registered and active in the parish? My response was to remind those who ask of how blessed we are, how much we have received from those who have gone before us and how much we receive even now in our time. It is so very important for us to be mindful of this and to give back. As Catholic Christians the first thing that we give is our prayer and worship of God. The most basic expression of this is when we gather for the Eucharist Mass. Where?...In our parish church.

When we belong (are registered and active…bona fide), we become stakeholders in the mission of the Church and our parish is where that happens daily.

We are not simply wanderers from place to place…

and/or chasing various priests from assignment to assignment. We invest ourselves into this mission and as such we meet new people and sometimes life-long friendships blossom. This is an awesome witness to our children and young people. Sometimes we need things: a certificate for sponsorship, testimony for other purposes, access to the sacraments. It is so important that we are responsible, mature adults who register and are active in our parish where we live or sometimes where we choose to belong. That is why we have parishes throughout the counties of our diocese to serve you and your family. If you come to our parish regularly, are not registered in a parish already, want to become a part of our parish then consider registering and sharing your stewardship (Time, Talent & Treasure) to aid the church in fulfilling its mission in our midst. When we believe we are truly blessed and that Jesus suffered, died, and rose for us this would not even be an issue…all we need to do is think about it…pray about it…and then act in a responsible and mature manner.

As we approach the summer months, remember that we have air-conditioning systems in the church building and we use it to provide maximum comfort and a stable range of temperature. Therefore, you may dress accordingly. I am so impressed by the manner in which many of our parishioners come dressed for Sunday Worship. Also, this is a good time to remind everyone that care should be taken when arriving for Mass and remaining until the final blessing. Our services are not lengthy here in 07722. We strive to begin on time. Your arrival on time adds to the prayerful environment that we strive to maintain when celebrating the Eucharist together. Remaining until the final blessing is a sign of prayerful support for the entire assembly and a reminder that we all need the blessings of the Mass and the prayerful support of one another. Thank you for your attentiveness. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer.

The 2018 Dreamlift will offer approximately one-hundred chronically ill, seriously ill, physically/mentally challenged and abused children, the opportunity to experience what is likely be the most exciting day of their life.

The special children who will make up these Dreamlifts, know a great deal about the struggles that come with having a chronic illness, but very little about the joy that comes with receiving the trip of their dreams. How many times have they fantasized about visiting Disney World, but never thought it would really happen? Thanks to you and the other Dreamlift donors, they will no longer have to try to imagine what it would be like to visit their fantasy destination, for on this special Tuesday morning in May, a chartered plane will touch down on the runway of the Army Aviation Support Facility in West Trenton, NJ and volunteers from the New Jersey State Police will help to see that all the children, whether they walk or need to be carried, board this magical plane safely.

For decades, Mercer County Dreamlifts have been a very important event in the Mercer County area and each year tons of volunteers, mascots, Disney characters and well-wishers attend this special send off. As the plane departs for Disney World all who attended know that they will never forget the emotions they witnessed on these children faces or how it made them feel in their hearts to be a part of this sendoff celebration.
