Easter is a season.

As such, there is much opportunity for repeated musical selections to add to the unified feel of the season. Conversely, much like Christmas carols, there are an abundance of Easter hymns appropriate to the season! So it is here that we enter into a dilemma: do we keep repeating certain hymns and songs or do we take advantage of the rich repertoire of Easter hymns?

Why not both? For the octave day of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday), you may have noticed a repeat of the hymns. Going forward from the 3rd Sunday, you will find a variety of hymns and songs for a few weeks. As we get closer to the Ascension and Pentecost, we will use a very well known hymn for several weeks, “Hail Thee Festival Day”, appropriate for the season of Easter, as well as Ascension and Pentecost.

And speaking of singing: the choir is always in need of more members. There can never be such a thing as too large a choir in a church! Come join one of the most active ministries in our parish and help add to the beauty of our worship.

Fall 2018-2019 Religious Education Registration Apply on-line through My Own Church Portal What are the particulars?

Grades available for Fall Program: Grades 1-8 (those children entering these grades in September 2018) on a first come, first serve basis. Families must be registered active parishioners whose children have been in the Religious Education program for at least one year (with the exception of first graders). However all families must be registered parishioners for 1 year prior to enrolling.

Grades 1 & 2: Two year First Penance & Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation. On-Campus Tuesdays.

Grade 3 - 6: Faith and Life On-Line Program Grade 7 & 8: Confirmation Preparation. Sunday evening Tuition:  From May 1st, 9 am through June 28th, 7:30 pm the reduced tuition of $200 per child will apply.

(Full payment must be completed by 7:30 pm June 28 to qualify for the reduced tuition)  From July 1st through 7:30 pm August 15th the tuition rate of $250 a child will apply.

The registration process, including all payments, must be completed by midnight, 31 August 2018.

No Re-Registration (returning students) after midnight, 31 August 2018.

Once your registration has been received and capacity is verified an invoice will be sent back for final payment. Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter. Laying down our lives for the sake of others does not mean that we will be nailed to a cross. It does mean that we commit ourselves to “good deeds” (first reading) such as caring for the sick, forgiving those who wrong us (last Sunday’s gospel), loving others as God has loved us (second reading). These good deeds are the very “stuff” of our everyday living. We don’t have to go out of our way to be good shepherds.

We simply must relate as one filled with new life to those who come our way.

The images presented to us during this season are very powerful. Again this week we are challenged to reflect on how well or how poorly we shepherd people. Parents shepherd their children. Parish staff shepherd parishioners. Pastors shepherd their staff members and leaders within the community who in turn shepherd others. This call is essential for us as we continue to develop a greater awareness of stewardship and more collaborative models of pastoral oversight. The sharing of responsibility and visioning continues to be a major priority for me as your pastor. All of us must be co-responsible for the mission and ministry of the Church. Much of what has been accomplished is attributed to the faithful and honest sharing of ideas and dreams. Mature Christian disciples are far more concerned with serving the needs of others than with distinguishing themselves as the agents providing the service. Let us strive to live these lofty ideals.

The Easter Season is a time for us to reflect on the gift of Christian Initiation. We are all changed because of our faith in God through Jesus Christ.

We are sustained in our beliefs by the Holy Spirit.

Let us pray during these days for those preparing for First Holy Communion, Confirmation and Infant Baptism. Let us also remember those who are preparing for the Sacraments of Commitment, Holy Matrimony, and Sacred Ordination to the Diaconate and to the Presbyterate (Priesthood).

Through our participation in the Sacramental life of the church, we are called to share our time and talent. Our Easter Celebrations could not be possible without the tireless efforts of so many.

There are way too many to mention. Know that you have a special place in my prayer as you lead us into the future by your example of fidelity and service to our church community.

Next weekend during the 10:00 am and 12:00 noon Masses we will welcome those families who are presenting children for their First Holy Communion. We schedule these ceremonies on Sunday during the weekend Masses because this is a cause for celebration of the whole community.

The parish community supports parents (and God-parents) in their important role of sharing our Catholic Faith with their family members, especially children. As such, there will be visitors among us. Please welcome them to our parish community for you are our ambassadors of Christ.

We continue to make progress with the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal. Many thanks to all those who have participated. I encourage those who have not to please do so this week. Thank you for your support of our Local Church of the Diocese of Trenton. I am away for a few days of rest and recreation. Our parish staff will ably provide for your needs during my absence. Have a great week.

Spring Clean-Up THANK YOU!!

Thank you Parishioners for your willingness to help us and a difference in our community at the Spring Cleanup of the parish grounds on Saturday, 7 April. WHAT A GREAT DAY we had!

We accomplished the following work with 15 volunteers: picked up tree branches, s cks, pine needles all over the campus, removed large branches from East perimeter line; removed the crosses used for the outdoors Sta ons of the cross to storage; moved umbrellas from garage to the court yard; moved items from parish offices and Madonna Hall to storage garage, and all debris was trucked over to the Phalanx side of property for town pick-up.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day this month by working together to make a difference in our community!

“Before the Proposal": Marriage Readiness Retreat for Young Adults
