Easter Flowers Why so many flowers in and around the sanctuary during the Easter Season?

There are several reasons why the church is decorated with flowers and other plants during the various times of the year. During Lent, you probably noticed a lack of any floral arrangement whatsoever. This helps to mark the solemness of that penitential season. Yet, beginning with the celebration of Easter the Easter Vigil and for the entirety of the Easter Season, springtime flowers are used to decorate as a symbol of God’s creation.

Lillies, in particular, play a particular role in the arrangements. The trumpet-shaped bloom harkens to the text from the Exsultet, “sound the mighty trumpet of salvation”, and from the letters to the Corinthians, “the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised”. The white color symbolizes purity, hope, and peace.

As the season carries on towards Pentecost, the arrangements change. During the 7 weeks of Easter, some of the blooms die off, and are removed from display. Some are replaced with newer plants of different varieties. As Pentecost draws near, blooms of yellow, orange, and red are placed in the sanctuary area, symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit.

All of these different and additional arrangements are either donated by parishioners, offerings from families who celebrate a wedding or funeral in the church, or sourced from local farms, greenhouses, etc.

Celebration of Law Enforcement Blue Mass Tuesday, 30 April 10:30 am St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton The event is offered to build support, and show visible appreciation for the efforts of law enforcement in keeping the public safe, and to ask God to protect them in this critical work. The Mass also offers an opportunity for the law enforcement community to honor and pray for fallen officers and their families.

Outline of Process for completing RE Registration Obtain a My Own Church (MOC) Login All families seeking Religious Education must be registered parishioners and have a My Own Church (MOC) portal login. The process to create a MOC portal login and receive a temporary password can take a few days. This interface is not mobile device friendly and has been known to have emails blocked by several of the email providers.

Request student(s) session & class through the MOC portal Once request is received by RE office, it will be verified and processed, then, an invoice will be created for payment, and be emailed back to family. This email/Invoice will include a web link to make payments through the Online Giving interface.

Submit payment through the Online Giving link provided in invoice email.

Please note, a student’s placement is not regarded as certain until payment is made.

A final verification will be sent to confirm placement and that the process is complete.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Easter.

This is our High Holy Day! It is the Day of the Lord’s Resurrection. It is the fulfillment of God’s promise to us. Today is the day when we celebrate the triumph of Good over Evil, Life over Death, Light over Darkness, Hope over Cynicism. Today is the day when we renew our Baptismal Promises after having made the journey through Lent. We are an alleluia people called to live our faith with conviction, called to invite others to become part of the Body of Christ, called to be agents of reconciliation and healing. Easter is not only what we believe, but it is who we are…

People of the Resurrection. The Easter Season extends for 50 Days until the Solemnity of Pentecost. Together let us joyfully proclaim our faith in Christ Jesus through word and in deed. Alleluia! Alleluia!

We welcome to our parish church family members and friends of our parishioners. We also welcome former parishioners who are joining us for the celebration of the Eucharist.

Many thanks to all those who have helped to prepare our church buildings and the liturgies for Holy Week, The Paschal Triduum, and the Easter Season. These liturgies could not be celebrated in such a prayerful and inspiring way if it were not for the cooperation and faithful stewardship of scores of people, staff, and parishioners alike. That is the hallmark of our parish…sharing for the good of the community. Thank you one and all. During the Easter Season the Universal Church

focuses in a special way on the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. In the coming weeks we will celebrate these sacraments here in our parish.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered in our parish this coming Fall, Friday, 18 October at 4:00 pm. It is a wonderful reminder to all of us that faith is transmitted from one generation to the next through the promptings of the Holy Spirit and the faithfulness of the worshipping community.

Let us fully embrace this responsibility as we continue to re-establish a strong catechetical ministry deliberately rooted in the celebration of Sunday Eucharist as the center of our communal identity.

The 2019 Easter Collection is a major source of funding for our parish. We have advanced many projects here in our parish. Your financial support enables us to continue in this way.

THANK YOU. Remember that Easter, like Christmas, is observed for eight days (an octave) each day from Sunday to Sunday. The Octave Day is also, more recently, designated as Divine Mercy Sunday. Enjoy your family and friends. Enjoy the special foods that are prepared. Enjoy the freedom to celebrate our faith. Enjoy the Salvation that has been offered to us from God through Jesus Christ. Spring Clean-Up THANK YOU!!

Thank you Parishioners for your willingness to give help to make a difference in our community at the Spring Clean-up of the parish grounds on Saturday, April 6, 2019!

We accomplished the following work with 29 volunteers: cut remaining ornamental grasses in the parking lot, weeded around trees near church, perimeter: picked up leaves, sticks, pine needles (North & East sides of property & around church), removed large branches from East perimeter line; moved umbrellas from garage to the court yard, move items from parish offices and Madonna Hall to storage garage, and all debris was trucked over to the sides of property for town pick-up.

What a wonderful way to work together to make a difference in our community!
