This is why the Catholic religion is incorporated into our routine. During this time of year, our students are taught about Easter and the significance of the Lent season.

This Lent season, our students wanted to give back to the community.

This is why on March 16th; the students at Future Generation visited CareOne Rehabilitation Center in Holmdel. The children had a wonderful and fulfilling time with the patients at the facility.

The students participated in some arts and crafts and singing some songs they learned in school.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Lent.

Mary and Martha’s long relationship with Jesus had brought them to believe in him. It must be comforting for us to know that their belief was still less than perfect. So is ours. And, like Mary and Martha, our belief is strengthened by encounters with Jesus. One conspicuous way we encounter Jesus is at Mass when we expressly take time out of our busy schedules to be present. Other prayer times during the day and week are also times when we consciously strive to encounter Jesus.

Perhaps less evident as encounters with Jesus would be all those times when we meet him through faith-strengthening and hope-giving encounters with other people. When our discouragement is lessened by a kind remark or when our sinfulness is forgiven by a smile and welcome, we encounter Jesus in the other and are brought to new life. Jesus loves each of us as deeply as he loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.

You will begin to notice a shift in the lectionary readings this coming week and next.

The focus shifts our attention from the Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting, & almsgiving to the cross as the instrument of our salvation.

Understood in this context, the cross is presented by the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) as something that is to be endured by Jesus in order that his mission in the world might be fulfilled. The Gospel according to John presents the cross as the throne which Jesus must ascend in order to fulfill the will of His Father. That is why in our liturgical prayer we present the Passion in a narrative way on Palm Sunday and in Choral Way on Good Friday. Make time to participate in the Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday,

the Easter Vigil Liturgies. They are rich in tradition helping to direct our thoughts toward the great sacrifices that have been made for us through the centuries. God does not abandon us; God continues to provide for His People.

To those who sent birthday greetings to me last week, THANK YOU. Please keep me, and all priests, in your daily prayer.

Next weekend we observe Palm Sunday of Our Lord’s Passion and Death, the beginning of Holy Week. We will distribute and bless palms during each of our Weekend Masses (Saturday Evening/Sunday AM). Weather permitting, we will gather on the front plaza prior to the 5:00 pm Mass for the Solemn Blessing and Entrance as prescribed by the General Instruction for the Roman Missal. As we approach Palm Sunday Weekend, the Triduum & Easter Sunday Weekend, consider car pooling when coming to Mass. Anticipate a little more time for parking and making your way to our parish site during these times. Be mindful that there may be guests visiting our parish or newly relocated families who might join us for prayer. Be ambassadors for Christ by welcoming them to our parish community…even if they may be sitting in YOUR SEAT. Utilize all areas of parking, especially the grassy areas along the perimeter.

Utilize all entrances/exits when coming to and from the church. The seating area near the music ministry section of the church is available when the choir is not present.

This afternoon is our Parish Lenten Penance & Reconciliation Service. Please plan to participate with your family. It is a wonderful way to prepare for the Great Solemnity of Easter. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Peace. Father Jeff

Office of Vocations Sponsors Afternoon at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia - Sunday, April 30th The Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Trenton is sponsoring an afternoon (arriving at the seminary at 3:00 pm & departing at 6:30 pm) for boys in grades 7-12.

The afternoon will include: talks by seminarians and Vocation Directors: Father Mike Wallack, Father Garry Koch and Father Dan Swift a seminary tour; gym time; vespers (evening prayer); and, a light dinner.

The purpose of the outing is to introduce boys to what a seminary is like and to consider a possible vocation to the priesthood. Adult chaperones are needed for transportation to/from and supervision at the seminary.

The Collier Youth Services is quite familiar to most of the Martha Mary members, for it is on our annual list of contributions benefiting women and children. There are several factions of the Collier Youth Services, which Sr. Debra Drago, Executive Director of Collier Youth Services will embellish on at the next Guild meeting on Wednesday, April 19, not 4/12, due to Holy Week.

Following is a brief listing of some of the wonderful programs offered by Collier: ∗

Collier School serves students with behavioral and mental health issues whose needs cannot be met within a public school.

∗

Collier Residential Program serves vulnerable young women who have survived abuse, trauma and neglect.

∗

Kateri Day Camp is a seven week camp that serves 200 children from Monmouth County’s poorest neighborhoods.

Caramore Farms is a community supported agricultural farm where students work the land to learn and help manage their own challenges and anxieties.

Join us on April 19 for the rosary in the Spiritual Center at 11:30 a.m. Bring your own lunch (BYOL) is at noon, with refreshments provided by the Guild. After a brief business meeting, Sr. Debra’s program will begin at 12:30. Please note: At this meeting the Guild will be collecting gently used or new books for children ages 5-13 to donate to the Kateri Day Camp. ∗

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC ...is one of the most beautiful places of worship I have ever visited. Each of the chapels dedicated to Mary are breath taking. One is more beautiful than the next. I attended several years ago with my son who was ten at the time and he thought the same. We each had our favorite chapel, we lit many candles for our loved ones, explored every inch of the place, attended Mass with the Bishop, and prayed to Jesus in the tabernacle. We took the bus down from St Mary’s with other parishioners and the bus trip also was a blast. Making the pilgrimage with others made the experience even more meaningful. If you haven’t been to the Basilica, a visit there is on the list as a must do. The kids will love it. We are looking forward to going again.

NEWMAN CONNECTION: Keeping Students Connected To The Catholic Church Newman Connection is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a national support structure and unified brand to Catholic campus ministry. They provide a national outreach program, connecting students from all over the country to campus ministry.

The parish will be contacting parishioners with senior high school kids going to college next fall to make them aware of this wonderful program.
