BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sunday readings are taken from the New Testament--the Christian scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures.

Today's selections refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in "Jesus Christ the righteous one" (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to "repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away" (Acts 3:19). The First Letter of John calls Jesus Christ "expiation for our sins" (1 John 2:2).

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Third Sunday of Easter.

Our belief in the Risen One is not some elite intellectual exercise but an embodied faith expressed in actions. Our faith is seen both in us by our assent to God’s will and in our actions by our witness to repentance and forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness is part of the reality of resurrected life; it is the effect of death and resurrection. We should walk and act like a forgiven people. Repentance-and-forgiveness does not belong simply to Lent—there, that’s over for another year. It is as much a part of the Easter mystery. Forgiveness is the virtue that enables us not to allow past hurts to determine our decisions and actions in the here and now. Forgiveness opens up the space for creating together with the one forgiven a new future where we can “fall peacefully asleep”.

Forgiveness is a resurrection activity. This is how Jesus is known.

As we continue to journey throughout the Easter Season, may we be particularly attentive to the proclamation of the Sacred Scriptures.

The message is poignant. Jesus continues to be revealed and it is the responsibility of the Apostles and the Disciples to carry on the mission for which Jesus offered his very life. In some small way we are faced with a similar challenge. We must continue the mission of our forebears who built the church in our midst.

Through our faithful stewardship of time, talent, and treasure we must be bold in the proclamation of our faith not only with words but most especially in our deeds. The faithful

and reverent celebration of the liturgy is the primary way in which we re-commit ourselves week after week. There have been so many favorable comments about the way in which our parish community prays when we celebrate the Eucharist together. From the singing to the hospitality, you are the face of our community. I thank you for the positive attitude that you are cultivating. You are helping us to welcome and sometimes re-welcome members to our parish community as new parishioners. May God continue to bless us with a spirit of outreach to the alienated and the marginalized and to welcome new members to OUR PARISH OF SAINT MARY. Thanks to all those who came out for our Spring Clean Up last weekend. Many hands make light work. This is a great way for parishioners of all ages to come together so that our campus continues to be environmentally pleasing. Our Easter Egg Hunt was very well attended. It was so great to see the children from toddlers to pre-teens enjoying some time together. Thanks to The Cowles Family for coordinating this event and to the scores of people who assisted them, especially our teens and young adults.

To all those who have generously supported our Easter Collection 2018 I offer a great big Thanks! To those who have not yet done so, I offer a great big invite to do so as soon as possible. As is our parish custom we will offer a report on this important collection in the weeks ahead. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace.

IN ACTION!

Diocesan Parish Counseling Services: Parishioners have access to short term counseling (up to 6 sessions) at locations throughout the Diocese. The program was developed by Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Trenton. Licensed counseling professionals are available to help parishioners through difficult issues such as marital problems, raising children, eldercare, bereavement or the stress of job loss that can be successfully addressed by brief counseling support. Pastors and parish priests of the Diocese can refer parishioners to the parish counseling services.

Parish Emergency Assistance Program (PEAP): Emergency financial assistance to individuals through the parish and coordinated by Catholic Charities is available.

Diocesan Social Service Workshops: Information and resources to parishes and Catholic Social Service agencies are available to enhance Diocesan Catholic Social Service.

Home Health Nursing Program: Free, in-home nursing and home health services are available to Seniors in Greater Trenton through Mt. Carmel Guild.

Emergency Assistance: People in Mercer County are able to receive food through Mt. Carmel Guild.

Over 30,000 received food through this program last year.

Your gift gives them a place to turn to in their need.

Our FTMM goal included 3 years ( 2016-2018) of the ACA. We encourage our parishioners— especially those who did not make a pledge to the FTMM — to support this year’s ACA and respond to Our Bishop’s call.
