Obituaries THOMAS R. HOLT
KNOX, IN - Thomas R. Holt, 77, died Monday, October 9, 2023. He was born December 7, 1945, in Winamac, Indiana, to the late Roy and Ida (Oliver) Holt. On April 20, 1968, he married Linda Keiser-Scott. Tom was retired from the Telephone Company as a cable-splicer after 37 years, first with United Telephone Company and finally from with Sprint. He was a member of the IBEW Local 723 for over 50 years. He loved carpentry and woodworking and tinkering with electronics. He was a huge Notre Dame football fan. He is survived by his wife, Linda, two daughters: Kenda (Andy) Kulpa of Knox and Kelli (Tim) Stump of Plymouth, Indiana and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one infant son, Brian Thomas Roy Holt, one sister, Dorothy Stacy and two brothers: Robert and Dennis Holt. Services were held Saturday, October 14, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox. Memorials may be made to the Eagle Creek Church or Dunes Hospice. Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Wanda Reinhardt, 82, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, in North Judson, Indiana. She was born April 26, 1941, in Kouts, Indiana to the late Orie and Helen (Hill) Reinhardt. Wanda was a member of the Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family. She had worked as a CNA for Our Lady Of Holy Cross Nursing Home. She is survived by one brother, Vernon (Verlyn) Reinhardt of Surprise, Arizona and seven sisters: Helen Miller of DeMotte, Indiana, Vera Birky, Shirley Kneifel, Norma Finney, Lois Howe and Diane Kucinski, all of Valparaiso, Indiana and Pam (Keith) Tosseng of Dyer, Indiana. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Reinhardt, Verna Greer and Sue Mitross and two brothers: Dale and Don Reinhardt. No services will be held at this time. Burial was in the Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson.

DULUTH, MN - Donald H. “Don” Prettyman, 88, died Friday, March 4, 2022. He was born December 17, 1933, in Francesville, Indiana, to the late Merl and Alma (Peters) Prettyman. On September 15, 1959, in Ashland, Wisconsin, he married Mary Ann Gay. Don served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and had worked as a Soil Scientist for the US Forest Service and the University of Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, one daughter, Patrice PrettymanAtkinson and one brother, Theodore Prettyman. He was preceded in death by one infant son, Jeffrey D. Prettyman, five brothers: Roger Devon, Robert James, Charles Richard, Ralph Neil and Ronald Edgar Prettyman and one sister, Doris Arlene Getz. A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 17, at the Winamac Cemetery (Town Addition) in Winamac, Indiana. Local arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Pioneer Cemetery in North Judson “If Tombstones Could Talk” Hello, I’m Walter Lightcap, although people call me “Roney”. I was born in 1842 in Ohio. We moved here when I was 13 and, except for time away during the Civil War, I lived the rest of my life here until my death in 1927. I was here when Harry Keller, that young man on the hill, came home from the Great War. It was a sad day, that was. I enlisted in the army in 1861 and served throughout the entire Civil War. I mentioned that I was at Shiloh. It was a terrible battle. This song shares about the battle:. . . A wounded soldier held him up His drum was by his side; He clasped his hands, then raised his eyes And prayed before he died. I’ll finish by telling a little story. Back during the war, I was tramping along, foot-sore and hungry with my clothes in tatters. My shirt was in pieces. Well, I saw two shirts on a clothesline of a house we were passing. I figured I’d just take one. As I plucked it from the line, a woman appeared and said, “Young man, you will pay for that on Judgment Day.” “Well,” I said, “since you give me so long a time to settle, I’ll just take them both on the same terms.” And I did.
