CHRISTINE LOTTER FOR STARKE COUNTY RECORDER HOUSTON FOR AUDITOR

I am Michaelene J. Houston, currently the Starke County Auditor and hoping to get re-elected in November. In the past I was in County Government for 26 ½ years, 6 ½ years as Chief Deputy to the Auditor, 8 years as Auditor, 4 years as Commissioner and then another 8 years as Auditor. I then retired, but was recently asked to return. I have been Auditor this time for 1 year and 9 months. My experience totals over 28 years. When I returned as auditor, in 2024, I was able to reduce my staff by one person. Doing so saves the county that salary PLUS all the fringe benefits. Since her departure, the office has continued to run smoothly with one less employee. In June, I will be married 55 years to my husband, Jeff Houston. We have 3 beautiful daughters, 9 amazing grandchildren, and 3 wonderful great grandchildren. I am the daughter of Billie and Mike Zingarelli. My husband and I attend church regularly at the First Christian Church of Knox. I hope I can get your support in the fall.

MICHELLE SCHOUTEN FOR STARKE COUNTY ASSESSOR

I’m running for Starke County Assessor. I have lived in Starke County for most of my life and graduated from Knox High School. I have a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, and I’m a level III Assessor/Appraiser. I have worked in several county offices over the years such as the offices of Auditor, Treasurer, and Recorder. This gives me an understanding of what the other offices do and helps me to work together with other offices in an efficient manner. I have worked in the Assessor’s Office for nearly 20 years and have been the Starke County Assessor since May of 2017. I have always done my best to be fair and equitable and will continue to do so. I strive to work with the citizens of Starke County to obtain the most accurate data for their property, thus leading to the most accurate assessments possible. I know how to work within a budget and am not afraid to work hard or stay late to meet deadlines. I would appreciate your vote to reelect me, Michelle Schouten as your Starke County Assessor.

My name is Christine Lotter, I’m the Democratic Candidate for Starke County Recorder, l’ve lived in Starke County (just outside of Hamlet) for 38 years and married to Matt for 37 years, We have a daughter Carissa and 2 grandchildren Alaina & Cashton, whom reside in Southern Illinois. Matt and I enjoy time with family. antiquing, home improvement projects and hosting gatherings for friends and family. My professional experience is in logistics/inventory control, office management and former Starke Co business owner. I currently serve as the Davis Township precinct chair and have also served our community as a local 4-H Leader, animal rescuer and canine foster mom. I’ve chosen to be a candidate for Starke County Recorder to protect and secure our records, to create a fiscally responsible office and an office that works for YOU the tax payer.

BRACK ROWE FOR STARKE COUNTY SHERIFF

My name is Brack Rowe, and I’m asking for your support to become the next Sheriff of Starke County. I’m not an outsider. I’m a lifelong resident of Starke County. This is my home. It’s where I was raised, where I built my career, and where my family and I are proud to live. My commitment to public safety began in 2003 when I started my career in corrections. In 2007, I graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and went on to serve in the patrol division of the Starke County Sheriff’s Department. Over the years, I earned the opportunity to serve as Chief Deputy, became a K9 handler, and helped develop Starke County’s first and only active S.W.A.T. team. But experience is more than titles and years of service. It’s about showing up. Taking responsibility. Listening to people. Supporting your deputies. And treating every person—regardless of who they are—with dignity and respect. That is the kind of Sheriff I intend to be. As your Sheriff, I will work to make our communities safer, strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the people we serve, support the men and women who put on the uniform every day, and make sure taxpayer resources are used responsibly. I believe the Sheriff’s Department should be visible, accessible, accountable, and working WITH the community—not separated from it. This election isn’t just about a title. It’s about leadership. It’s about accountability. It’s about public safety. And it’s about the future of our Sheriff’s Department. I’m asking you to put your trust in someone who has spent his career serving this county and who will continue to put the people of Starke County first. Experience. Integrity. Service. A safer, stronger Starke County—TOGETHER. Vote Brack Rowe for Starke County Sheriff.

JOSHUA PITTS FOR COUNTY COUNCIL DISTRICT 2

My name is Joshua Pitts. I am running for County Council District 2. I am married to Nikki Baker Pitts. We have a child that is now in college who graduated from NJSP schools. I am a 1998 graduate of Knox High School. A 2001 graduate of Ancilla Domini College in Plymouth. I am a 2004 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. I also have two Masters Degrees, one in Counseling and one in Psychology from Grand Canyon University. I am a Licensed Counselor and in one way or another have worked with people, mostly inmates, who struggled with drug addiction from 2010-2022. I am the former Director of Programs at the Marshall County jail where I helped to start the Marshall County Jail Chemical Addictions Program by writing a grant through the Indiana Attorney General’s office. Prior to that I worked as a Case Manager/ Field Officer also in Marshall County and prior to that I was a Clinical Supervisor at an out-patient Counseling facility in Port Clinton and Sandusky Ohio. Reconnecting with my now wife brought me back to Indiana in 2017. We purchased a home that same year and I have been back here since. I guess what they say about stepping foot in the yellow river is right. One of the other things I do is for the last 10 years I have coached, the first 5 of those years for Knox High School and the most recent years at Marian University’s Ancilla campus in Plymouth. I think helping mold boys into young men is beyond important and I get the opportunity to do that with Coaching. My current full-time job is at Marian University in Plymouth where I am Student Success Coach, Adjunct Professor, and the International Designated School Official. In my current position I do the immigration paperwork through the federal government for our small group of International Students that attend our campus, I also am in charge of departmental budgets and help set the budgets and make sure we stay in the green throughout the year. I connect with students daily to help them achieve academic success and some semesters I teach courses. In every position I have held since becoming a Counselor in 2010 I have worked on creating budgets, staying within those budgets through the year and also researching and at times writing grants. Those I believe will be useful tools as a County Councilman, as well as my years of experience having difficult conversations with folks especially during hard times in their lives. My family is from Starke County, my father Duepree Pitts was born right here in Knox, my grandparents are buried at Crown Hill Cemetery off of Lake St. in Knox. A few years back I was blessed with being able to get my grandfather Orville Pitts a brick at our memorial at the Knox Courthouse, he lived the majority of his life in Knox and he served in WWII. I appreciate your support and hope to have your vote. I want to be a Councilman that listens to the people and is a servant to this community.
