DAVID W. DARE SR.

KNOX, IN - David W. Dare Sr., 75, died Saturday, September 12, 2026 in La Porte, Indiana. He was born May 13, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Floyd R. and Dorothy (Himes) Dare. On June 24, 1972 in South Bend, he married Anna Mae Shepherd, whom he met while they were singing in Gospel groups at a radio station.

Dave was a member of the Knox Church of the Nazerene, where he was an adult Sunday School teacher and a board member.

He was a former member of the Cub Scouts. He loved listening to Gospel music, attending concerts, watching The Wizard of Oz, singing Gospel music and spending time with his family. He was the former Building Inspector for the City of Knox and the Town of Winamac.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae, one son, David W. (Samantha) Dare of Delong, Indiana, one daughter, Ive Renee (Bobby) Griffith of Knox, nine grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and two sisters: Carole Mann of Coldspring, Texas and Janice Workman of Lakeville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Dare.

Friends will be received from 11am till time of service at 2pm on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Martin and Rev. Brian Pinson will be officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery in Knox.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

ELAINE MARIE RUNK

MULBERRY, IN - FORMERLY OF MEDARYVILLE, IN - Elaine Marie Runk, 80, died Friday, September 11, 2026, at Mulberry Health. She was born August 21, 1946 in Valparaiso, Indiana to the late Henry and Mabel (Barneko) Biggs. On December 23, 1966, in Valparaiso, she married Terry “Pete” Runk.

Elaine was an avid bowler, competing in local leagues. She was an animal lover and she enjoyed playing cards , board games, everything Hallmark and spending time with her family. She helped her husband operate P&E Craft.

She is survived by two sons: Brandon (Bonnie) Runk and Glendon (Iliana) Runk, one daughter, Shereese Moore, seven grandchildren and two brothers: Ronald (Theresa) Biggs and Larry (Jan) Biggs. He was preceded in death by her husband, Pete.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon3pm EDT on Saturday, September 19 at Frain Mortuary. Graveside services at White Post Cemetery in Medaryville immediately following visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulaski Animal Center.

KATHRYN JOAN SCHULTZ

MEDARYVILLE, IN - Kathryn Joan Schultz, 95, died Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, Indiana.

She was born August 29, 1931 in Medaryville to the late Lawrence H. and Anna C. (Steele) Wagner.

On October 20, 1948 in Winamac, she married Paul Richard Schultz.

He died December 7, 2017.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Medaryville. She had worked at the Medaryville Garment Factory, The Bargain Barn and West Central Schools. She was a member of the Medaryville United Methodist

Church. She enjoyed crocheting, shopping and she loved her family very much and will be sadly missed.

She is survived by three daughters: Diana (Bernard) Whitaker of Grayson, Kentucky, Deniese Conley of Winamac and Darlene (Eric) Griffo of North Judson, Indiana, one son, Steve (Donna Jackson) Schultz of Winamac, nine grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Aladean Pelsy.

Private burial will take place in the Sutton Cemetery in Medaryville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camelot Care Center.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Medaryville.

JANET C. PALMER

KNOX, IN - Janet C. Palmer, 92, died Sunday, August 30, 2026 in Knox, Indiana. She was born August 6, 1934 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late John and Mary (Covington) Garr.

Janet had worked for Starke County Community Services for many years.

She is survived by three sons: Robert Palmer of Knox, David Palmer of Laguna Beach, California and William Palmer of England, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and siblings: Robert “Bob” Garr of Southport, North Carolina, Carolina Panipinto of Crown Point, Indiana, Joanna Pasek of Winnetka, Illinois and Barbara Yokom of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lee Ann Palmer.

Interment will be in the Bass Lake Cemetery, Knox, Indiana.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

GARY McKINNEY

PULASKI, IN - Gary McKinney, 71, died Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was born January 8, 1955 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Maurice and Margene (Benson) McKinney.

Gary was a 1973 graduate of Winamac High School and completed an Ag Short Course at Purdue University. He spent most of his life on the family farm, which had been in his family for more that a century. He had worked at Monon Trailer, Fulton Marshall Co-Op in Star City and Alexander Farms. He had devoted himself to caring for his parents in their later years. He enjoyed cultivating and sharing his garden, playing Euchre, watching sporting events, attending rock concerts and spending time with his family.

He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by three brothers: Michael (Sue) McKinney, Steven ((Sherry) McKinney and Timothy (Sharon) McKinney, one step daughter, Amy Stewart and one step grandson.

Services were held Saturday, September 12 at Frain Mortuary.

Burial was in the Winamac Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop #229 or Pulaski County 4-H Fair Board.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

HERBERT D. PATRICK

WINAMAC, IN - FORMERLY OF ATHENS, AL - Herbert D. Patrick, 75, died Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was born January 7, 1951 in Knox, Indiana to the late Sherman and Grace (Rowe) Patrick. On July 6, 1991 in Knox, he married Marsha (Rodriquez) Jackson.

Herbert was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and camping.

His family meant everything to him and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha,

three step granddaughters, one sister, Retha Russell and one brother, Danny Patrick. He was preceded in death by step children: Gregory Jackson, Jr. and Faleisha Thompson and siblings: Payne, David, James and Robert Patrick and Catherine Back, Daisey Deeter, Sharon Hopkins, Shirley Howell and Mary Jane Parrish.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

MELVIN ZEITERS SR.

MONTEREY, IN - Melvin Zeiters Sr., 94, died Friday, September 4, 2026 in Monterey, Indiana. He was born May 12, 1932 in Bloomington, Illinois to the late Orville Melvin Zeiters and the late Ruth (Slown) Schultz. On March 7, 1953 in Valparaiso, Indiana, he married Fayette Fifield.

Melvin enjoyed going to auctions and spending time with his family.

He had worked as a laborer for US Steel.

He is survived by one son, Dennis (Rita) Zeiters of Kouts, Indiana, fourteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fayette, three sons: Melvin Jr., Kendal and Alvin Zeiters and one daughter, Diane Johnson and siblings: Delmer Zeiters and Shirely Zeiters.

Services will be held at Pleasant Twp. Cemetery in Kouts, Indiana.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox, Indiana.

BARBARA FITCH

KNOX, IN - FORMERLY OF LA CROSSE, IN - Barbara Fitch, 78, died Sunday, September 6, 2026 in Knox, Indiana. She was born August 24, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois to the late John and Jean (Ridnakar) Bilic.

She was a member of the La Crosse Christian Church. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music, gardening, doing yard work and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three sons: Robert (Vicky) Ray of Knox, Indiana, Edward (Kim) Ray and Christopher (Kate) Ray, both of La Crosse, five granchildren, five great grandchildren and one brother, Richard Bilic of Kouts, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Bilic.

Private services will be held.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse.

Arrangments were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

ANNA MAY MYERS

MEDARYVILLE, IN - Anna May Myers, 67, died Monday, September 7, 2026 at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville, Indiana.

She was born January 14, 1959 in Rensselaer, Indiana to the late Robert G. and Joyce (Musgrave) Myers, Sr. Anna was a graduate of West Central High School. She was retired from Dwyer in Wolcott. She was a longtime member of the Medaryville Christian Church. She enjoyed playing Bunco and Bingo, traveling, baking, collecting things and doing puzzles of all kinds. Her friends, neighbors and family were very important to her.

She is survived by one brother, Robert G. “Bobby” Myers, Jr. of Michigan City, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one brother, John F. Myers.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Parkview Haven Retirement Home or Dunes Hospice.

ROBERT D. KAWAGUCHI

KNOX, IN - Robert D. Kawaguchi, 80, died Tuesday, September 8, 2026 in Knox, Indiana. He was born November 28, 1945 in Laurens, South Carolina to the late Robert and Dorothy (Bible) Kawaguchi.

On May 12, 1965 in Burnsville, North Carolina, he married Jean Wagers.

Robert was a US Army Reservist.

He was a great artist doing airbrushing. He was a jack of all trades He enjoyed riding his bike, traveling, building things, cooking, and spending time with his family.

He had worked as a millwright for Bethlehem Steel.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, one son, Robert (Teresa) Kawaguchi of Portland, Oregon, two daughters: Michelle (Lenny) Dolezal of Knox and Susan (Steve) Siroky of Gold Canyon, Arizona, three grandchildren and two sisters: Teresa Kawaguchi and Gloria (Dick) Ballard, both of Knox. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Debra Jean Kawaguchi, and siblings: James Kawaguchi and Shirley Winter.

Friends will be received 4-8pm on Thursday, September 17 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel with services starting at 5pm with Sean Rice officiating. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

EVA M. WALENGA

MIDDLEBURY, IN - Eva M. Walenga, 90, died Thursday, September 10, 2026 in Middlebury, Indiana. She was born April 3, 1936 in Jackson, Kentucky to the late Please and May (Bradley) Campbell.

Eva loved Jesus, reading the Bible every day and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, David Owens of Port St. Lucie, Florida, one daughter, Janet Owens of Middlebury, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister, Frances Bailey of Plymouth, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Walenga and siblings: Pearl “Tolbie”, Earl, Herman and Raymond Campbell, Ethel Ososki, Gladys Miller, Sarah Evelyn Campbell and Goldie Cole Trent.

Services were held Monday, September 14 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bruce Bennett officiating. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox.

CHARLENE HARVEY Sadly on Saturday August 22, 2026, Charlene Harvey, was called to her heavenly home, she was 79 years old. Charlene Lyons was born to Tessie (Frasure) and George Lyons on August 30, 1947 in Prestonsburg, KY. Her parents divorced, and she and her Mother moved to North Judson, IN, with other family, that found work in the steel mill industry, she was 12 years old. IN 1961 her Mother remarried a North Judson man, Robert Medbourn (step-Dad), and two years later she had an adopted baby brother Greg Medbourn.

A graduate of North Judson-San Pierre High School, she always had a fond love for her Bluejays, and always contributed by working within her class of 1965. While in high school she dated and fell in love with Allen Harvey. They were married January 21, 1966, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage together until Allen’s death July 17, 2019.

Charlene was creative in the art of design going back to her high school days. In her senior year she meet a lady named Lil Bogart, owner Pioneer Florist, and the rest is history. She worked for Bogart for ten years, and with Bogart’s encouragement she started her own Florist and Gift Shop (Char’s Florist & Gifts) in neighboring Knox, IN during the Fall of 1978. Knox, IN became her life for the next 41 years. She loved working with everyone in Starke County, performing 412 weddings and many more funerals. Her favorite was the ‘Holiday of Love,’ Valentine’s Day! In 2018 she retired from her shoppe in Knox, and has spent her last years back home in North Judson, IN. A huge Chicago Cubs fan, she finally got to watch every game, via cable TV, and she did!

Charlene is survived by her son Mark Harvey, recently from Indianapolis, IN. One brother-in-law: Bill Harvey, Orlando, FL. One sisterin-law: Wendy Medbourn, Lafayette, IN. One aunt: Janice (Frasure) Kane, North Judson, IN; Two uncles: Jack Frasure, North Judson, IN; Bobby Frasure, Portage, IN. Six nieces: Kathy Holmes, North Liberty, IN; Robin (Frasure) Noble, North Judson, IN; Debbie (Frasure) Bolen, North Judson, IN; Julie Harvey, Noblesville, IN; Mandy (Medbourn) Nielson, North Judson, IN; Carrie Harvey, Plymouth, IN; Four nephews: Brian Harvey, Zionsville, IN; Reece Medbourn, Layfayette, IN; Hunter Medbourn, North Judson, IN; Brendan Medbourn, Lafayette, IN. With several cousins from Detroit, MI; Willard, OH; Nashville, TN; Huntsville, AL and Hobart, IN. Charlene was laid to rest Saturday September 5, 2026, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, North Judson, IN, followed by Irish graveside service (bagpiper). Charlene requested no luncheon. Although she was in the floral business, she had always said she didn’t want any flowers, she didn’t want anyone to fuss. However, she wished, if people choose, to make any donations to the St. Peter Lutheran Church’s Alter Guild.

Charlene was a rare GEM, loved by all who ever knew her…even Conway Twitty. I too will forever miss her, God’s Speed Mom!
