According to Town Code:
§ 32.036 (A) A Park and Recreation Board shall be composed of four members appointed by the Town Council on the basis of his, her, or their interest in and knowledge of parks and recreation. (B) No more than two members shall be on the same political party. (Prior Code, § 2-221) (Ord. 86-3, passed 5-21-1986)
§ 32.040 AUTHORITY OF BOARD. The Park and Recreation Board shall have the power to perform all acts necessary to acquire and develop sites and facilities and to conduct such programs as are generally understood to be park and recreation functions. In addition, the Park and Recreation Board shall have all the powers and duties available under the Indiana Code.
The Town Council is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the Park & Recreation Board. Vacant seat now in second of four-year term ending January 2028. Candidate must be a resident of the Town of North Judson. Attendance expected at monthly meetings throughout the year and to be involved in Park & Recreation budgets, initiatives, and planned and ongoing projects.

HAMLET, IN - Paula M. Gilson, 56, died Sunday, March 16, 2025 at her home. She was born February 8, 1969, in San Jose, California.
Paula had worked many years as a waitress at the Family Café and Christos, both in Knox, Indiana. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her long time companion, Brian Pike of Hamlet, two daughters: Ashley Goble of Hamlet and AnneMarie Gilson of Knox, one son, Jordan Gilson of Hamlet, six grandchildren, her mother, Gail Hine of Hamlet and two brothers: Mike Smith of South Carolina and Walter Smith of Texas. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Taren Abair and her father, Walter Smith.
A celebration of life will take place at 2pm March 29 at the Knox Community Center.

WINAMAC, IN - John Frank Newman, 68, died Sunday, March 16, 2025 at his home. He was born November 20 1956 in Winamac to the late Herbert Russell and Norma Rosemary (Good) Newman. On August 11, 1990, he married Jeanne Gay Rickman.
John was a 1975 graduate of Culver Community High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Purdue University, where he was actively involved in the Purdue Dairy Club and the Dairy Judging Team, all while cheering on the Boilermakers. On the family farm, John was responsible for the breeding program. Following his time farming he spent 3 years working for DeLaval, selling dairy farm route supplies and then later as a truck driver with Murray’s Trucking Company where he worked until his retirement. He was a 30+ years member of Heartland Church, where he was an active participant in the men’s group, volleyball, and youth group. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and cheering on his favorite sports teams. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears and the Purdue Boilermakers.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, three daughters: Laura Lynn Beth (Donny) Nies and Kathleen Mae (Donny) Howe, both of Winamac and Angela Rose Bain of Statesboro, Georgia and one son, John Russell Newman of Winamac, six grandchildren and siblings: Herbert Russell (Janet) Newman, Jr., Barbara Mae (Warren) Penrod and Geri Anne Newman, all of Culver, Arthur Allen (Melissa) Newman of Winamac and Mary Lovina Newman of East Enterprise, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Paul Newman and one brother, Edward Anthony Newman.
Services were held Friday, March 21, at Heartland Church with Pastor Heath Hiatt officiating. Private burial was in the Zion Cemetery in Culver. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Church.

FRANCESVILLE, IN - Valerie V.
Radtke, 101, died Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville, Indiana. She was born October 28, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Anthony and Mary (Rapnik) Kowalski.
Valerie was a beautician, who worked at home and taught at Wolford Beauty Academy. She was a member of the St. Joachim Catholic Church in Chicago. She enjoyed volunteering at Pulaski County Human Services in Winamac, Indiana and Medaryville, Indiana.
She is survived one son, Mark Parrot, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. She had two siblings: Andrew “Andy” Kowalski and Antonia “Dolly” Kostyn. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerrod Radtke.
No services will be held per her request. Memorials may be made to Pulaski County Human Services.

KNOX, IN - Sharon Kay Oliverius, 80, died Thursday, March 20, 2025. She was born April 20, 1944 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Marguerite (Clark) Oliverius and Kenneth Keen.
Sharon was a 1962 graduate of Knox High School. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls and the Order of the Eastern Star. She participated in 4-H for 10 years and often won the canning competitions. She attended Ball State University a short while and spent most of her working years bookkeeping for several businesses. She loved to travel and enjoyed all types of art from photography to painting and collecting owls. She started a gardening program at both of the nursing homes she lived in over the past decade.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Jim and Marguerite Oliverius and Kenneth Keen and siblings: James Clark Oliverius and Donna Lee Keen.
A memorial service will be held at Noon (CST) on Saturday, March 29 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10am (CST). Memorials may be made to the Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation.

WINAMAC, IN - Alice Faye (Reinholt)
Peterson, 101, died Friday, March 21, 2025 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, Indiana. She was born July 27, 1923 in Winamac to the late John W. and Jennie Fern (Moore) Reinholt. Alice was a homemaker and had worked as a janitor at the Culver Academy Beason Memorial Park for many years. She was a member of the Riverbank Church and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was also a member of the Lawton Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening and selling her produce, fishing in Florida, ice fishing on Bruce Lake and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Cathy (Lane) Shedrow of Monterey, Indiana, three sons: Clint (Althea) Peterson of Alto, Georgia, Charles (June) Peterson and Carl (Jo Ann Johnson) Peterson, both of Winamac, thirteen grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Peterson and siblings: L. Jay Reinholt, Flaura E. Clark, Ora E. Reinholt, Agnes M. Straw, Rev. John Reinholt, Gertrude A. Reinholt, Sarah K. Peterson, Viola J. Reinholt and Gerald R. Reinholt.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm EDT on Wednesday, March 26 at Frain Mortuary. Services will be held at 11am EDT on Thursday, March 27 at the funeral home with Jon Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Winamac Cemet ery (McKinley Addition). Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Community Church.

PERU, IN - Linda Marie (Jakubczak) Harkness, 76, died Friday, March 21, 2025 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born January 6, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Stanley and Marie (Tomczak) Jakubczak. In 1993, she married Bobbie Harkness. He died in 2015. Linda was a registered nurse and had graduated from George Washington High School and Purdue Northwest University. She enjoyed her family very much. She was a member of ABATE for many years. She liked doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She is survived by three daughters: Michelle Pratt of Logansport, Indiana, Tandi (Alan) Landes of Anderson, Indiana and Tracy (Clark) Stacy of Knox, Indiana, four sons: James (Nicole) Dix of Anderson, Richard (Amanda) Dix of West Lafayette, Indiana, Bobby (Glenda) Harkness of Elkhart, Indiana and Greg (Wendy) Harkness of Knox, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and siblings: Gloria Lawbaugh of St. John, Indiana and Ronald Jakubczak of Hammond, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Renee Freeman, one grandson, Kyle Dix and one brother, Tom Jakubczak.
Visitation will be from 1-2pm EDT on Friday, March 28 at Frain Mortuary with services beginning at 2pm with Alan Landes officiating. Burial will be in the Reed Cemetery in Winamac. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Ruby Elaine (Jackson) Knope, 96 of LaCrosse, IN, passed away peacefully, March 15, 2025. She has been a resident of the LaCrosse area for the past 78 years. She was born on September 4, 1928, in Kouts, IN. The daughter of the late Ora Walter “Buck” Jackson and Effie Brummitt (Williams) Jackson. Ruby was a 1946 graduate of Kouts High School; she graduated with honors and was a cheerleader and the female athlete of 1945 and 1946.
On September 27, 1947, Ruby married Harold E. Knope, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, IN. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2017, after 70 years of marriage. After raising their two sons on a farm west of LaCrosse and their sons having joined the Marines and Navy/Army after high school, Ruby decided to work outside of the home. She worked as an office manager bookkeeper for Reese Business Insurance and The Regional News for sixteen years. She then moved on to employment with the First Citizens Bank, (Horizon). She obtained the position of Bank Secretary and Teller, and she was also a Notary. She retired from the bank in 1989. She was very proud that her and Harold were a 5-generation couple. They had 3 great great-grandkids before the Good Lord called Harold home and now, she has 4 great great-grandkids. She loved to garden with flowers and vegetables. She was also very good at cooking, baking and preserving the produce from her garden. She and Harold also did some traveling, they made it to Europe in the late 1960’s and to Asia in the late 1970’s. They also loved to travel in the fall to see the colors. She was an avid sports fan, mainly pro basketball.
Daily prayer was her strength and guide in life. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth W. Knope; grandson, Timothy R. Knope; sister, Betty (Jackson) Jones; 2 brothers, Duane and Ralph Jackson; and daughter-in-law, Yoshiko Knope. She is survived by her son, James Knope; grandkids: Alice (Tony) Martin, Jeff Knope, Steve (Brandy) Knope; 4 great grandkids: Kelcey (Jordan) Clapp, Noah (Madeline) Martin, Jonah Martin, and Willow Knope; and 4 great great-grandkids: Emilia, Oliver, Hazel, and Ruby Clapp.
Funeral service was held Monday, March 24, 2025, at St John’s Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, with Rev. Joel S. Zipay officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Memorials may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, IN.
