CARL B. SMITH

MONTEREY, IN - Carl B. Smith, 81, died Sunday, June 1, 2025 at his home. He was born March 7, 1944 in Rochester, Indiana to the late Bernard H. and Sarah E. (Wagoner) Smith. On December 7, 1968 in Winamac, he married Doris E. Hinderlider.

Carl was a 1962 graduate of Monterey High School where he was an officer in the local FFA chapter. He was a proud farmer and supporter of local businesses and his community. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He also served many years on the Fulton County REMC Board of Directors and was a founding member of Chapter 33 of the Red Power Roundup and a member of the Northern Indiana Power from the Past and helped start the annual Toy Show. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially pontoon rides with them at Lake Bruce, taking the kids for ice cream and cruising around the lake in the ‘69 Chevy Impala convertible. He was an avid collector of farm toys, antique tractors/equipment and an assortment of other “treasures”.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, three daughters: Karen (Jack) Jones of Winamac, Indiana, Kathy (Brian) Roberts of Monterey and Karla (Paul) Vincent of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two brothers: Bill (Bev) and Sam Smith, both of Monterey. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristina Elaine Smith and one sister, Alice Smith.

Services were held Saturday, June 7, at Frain Mortuary with Rev. Jeff Herron officiating. Burial was in the Winamac Cemetery (Dilts Addition) in Winamac. Memorial contributions may be made to ACRE Fund at the Community Foundation of Pulaski County or the Northern Indiana Power from the Past.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

RAYMOND THOMAS JACOBS

PLYMOUTH, IN - FORMERLY OF KNOX, IN - Raymond Thomas Jacobs, 82, died Sunday, June 1, 2025 in Plymouth, Indiana. He was born June 24, 1942 in Grayson, Kentucky to the late Reed Jacobs Sr. and May (Stewart) Jacobs.

Raymond was a long time Little League Baseball coach. He enjoyed listening to country music, watching westerns and spending time with his family. He was a supporter of the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame football and the Knox Redskins. He was retired from the Ford Motor Co.

He is survived by five sons: Vince (Tammy) Jacobs and Greg Jacobs, both of Knox, Garrett (Sheryl) Jacobs of Inwood, Indiana, Chris (Lisa) Jacobs of North Judson and Shane Jacobs of Bremen, Indiana, one daughter, Shawna (Craig) Clemons of Plymouth, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and five sisters: Londie (Bill) Vickers of Daytona Beach, Florida, Barbara (David) Fugate of Vero Beach, Florida, Kathryn Allen and Mary Back, both of Knox and Evelyn Brewer of Bourbon, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one son, Brock Jacobs and three brothers: John, Reed Jr. and Billy Don Jacobs.

Services were held Thursday, June 5 at the Gospel Lighthouse Church with Rev. Mike Atkins officiating. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox. Memorials may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

JEANETTE CAESAR

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Jeanette Caesar, 95, died Saturday, May 31, 2025.

She will fondly be remembered for her warmth, love of family and her legendary pizzas, once considered the best in town at The Club.

She is survived by one son, Gerald (Linda) Russell of Winamac, one granddaughter, two great grandchildren and siblings: Brenda (Rabion) Frasure of Winamac and Andy Russell of Lexington, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amando Caesar and siblings: Harold Russell, Roberta Howard, James Russell, William Russell, Mary Howard, Sarah Clemsons and Arnold Russell. Per her wishes there will be no formal service.

Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

SHIRLEY M. BECKNER

WINAMAC, IN - Shirley M. Beckner, 90, died Friday, June 6, 2025 at her home. She was born December 30, 1934 in Winamac, Indiana to the late Burvie and Dorothy (White) Rife. On July 12, 1952, in Winamac, she married Virgil E. Beckner. He died July 13, 2010.

Shirley worked in the office at Russell’s Old Trading Post in Winamac and had mowed the Winamac Cemetery for years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac, Tippecanoe Twirlers Square Dance Club and TOPS. She enjoyed square dancing, completing puzzles, camping and spending time with family. She is survived by one son, Terry L. (Denise) Beckner of Winamac, one daughter, Pam L. Allen of Winamac, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Virgil E., Orville L., Gerald L. Junior B. and Calvin E. Rife and Elnora L. Jordan.

Visitation for 4-8pm EDT on Thursday, June 12, at Frain Mortuary with services at 10am EDT on Friday, June 13 at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen Sundquist officiating. Burial will be in the Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulaski Animal Center, the First Christian Church or the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

JASON LEE RISNER

KNOX, IN - Jason Lee Risner, 43, died Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born October 19, 1981 in La Porte, Indiana to Rita (Risner) Pier. On January 6, 2023 in Knox, Indiana, he married Katherine Sons.

Jason enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He loved the Buffalo Bills.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine, three daughters: Mallory Risner of Knox, Brittney Danekas of North Judson, Indiana and Brooklyn Danekas of Peru, Indiana, five grandchildren, his mother, Rita Risner of Knox and one sister, Kayla Risner of North Judson.

Friends will be received from 4-8pm on Wednesday, June 11 at Braman & Bailey Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1pm on Thursday, June 12 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson.

MARK J. HOFFMAN

WINAMAC, IN - Mark J. Hoffman, 54, died Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was born September 4, 1970 in Logansport, Indiana to Michael D. “Mick” and Mardell A. (Stoll) Hoffman. On August 10, 1990, in Medaryville, Indiana, he married Krista L. Conley.

Mark was a 1989 graduate of West Central High School. He graduated from the School of Music in Bloomington and then from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana. He served 21 years as a police officer and received many accolades throughout his career. In 2020, he retired from the Winamac Police Department as Chief of Police. He was a longtime member of the FOP #123 in Monticello, Indiana. Mark owned and operated Jubilee Sound for 35 years. He installed professional sound systems at numerous area schools and churches. He was proud to work with and support local artists in their music careers and volunteered his time and talent to the music and drama programs at the Winamac and West Central High Schools and was a longtime contributor to the Francesville Fall Festival and the Moe Fest. He was a member of Teaberry Hill Estates Church in Medaryville, where he played the mandolin, dobro, acoustic guitar, steel guitar and bass guitar, ran the sound system and taught a music class. He enjoyed camping, snow skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, riding his motorcycles, participating in competitive shooting (pistol and rifle) and archery events and vacation cruises with family and friends. He was a member of the Outkast Paintball Team.

He is survived by his wife, Krista, his mother, Mardell A. (Bill) Retschlag, his father, Mick (Carol) Hoffman, two sisters: Tonya Sage and Lisa Allen and two brothers: Mike (Angela) Hoffman and Randy (Joey) Retschlag.

Services will be held at 11am EDT on Wednesday, June 11, at Teaberry Hill Estates Church with Pastor Elmer Conley officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Medaryville. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac, Indiana.

DOVIE A. STACY

PLYMOUTH, IN - FORMERLY OF NORTH JUDSON, IN - Dovie A. Stacy, 78, died Friday, June 6, 2025 in Plymouth, Indiana. She was born June 14, 1946 in Dana, Kentucky to the late Isaac and Augusta (Maulky) Hurd. On December 26, 1975 in Wise, Virginia, she married Arnold Stacy. He died on September 5, 2000.

Dovie enjoyed playing bingo, painting, putting puzzles together and spending time with her family.

She is survived three sons: Dewight (Gayle) Newsome and Ray (Deb) Stacy, both of North Judson and James (Dawn) Newsome of Neenah, Wisconsin, two daughters: Bernice Kline of Berwick, Pennsylvania and Barb Willimans of Culver, Indiana, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren and one brother, Charles (Patty) Hurd of Winamac, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jodi Stacy, one brother, Merle Hurd and four sisters: Leonie Samons, Daisy Carr, Judy Johnson and Thelma Johnson.

Services were held Tuesday, June 10 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Heath Hiatt officiating. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Contributions may be made to the family.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox, Indiana.
