KNOX - Eric B. Richardson, 47, died Sunday, July 12, 2026. He was born October 18, 1978 in Hammond, Indiana.
Eric enjoyed gardening, grilling, experimenting with new recipes and caring for the people he loved. He is survived by his sons: Brandon and Noah Richardson, his mother, Nancy Richardson and siblings: Melody (Rick) Mullins, Melinda (Linda) Stanley, Michelle (Rich) Davenport, Amber (Travis) Davis, Jerry (Katherine) Richardson Jr. and Darrell (Kristina) Richardson. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Richardson Sr.
Services were held Thursday, July 16 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox.
Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
DEANNA STEVENSON
MASON, OH - Deanna (Onken) Stevenson, 67, died Monday, July 20, 2026. She was born November 1, 1958 in Plymouth, Indiana to Richard and Phyllis (Planck) Onken.
Deanna graduated from Argos High School in 1977 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She had worked as a paralegal. She enjoyed reading, trips to Gatlinburg and she loved her family deeply.
She is survived by two daughters: Brooke Stevenson of Mason and Shelby Rodriguez of Goshen, Ohio, two grandsons, her mother, Phyllis of Plymouth, one brother, Rod Onken of Argos and one sister, Susan (Mark) Winkelman of Richardson, Texas and her former husband, Jeff Stevenson of Whitestown, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard.
Services were held Saturday, July 25 at Frain Mortuary. Burial was in the Roseland Cemetery in Francesville, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac, Indiana.
PEGGY E. THOMPSON
KNOX - Peggy E. Thompson, 74, died Thursday, July 16, 2026 in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was born October 22, 1951 in Plymouth, Indiana to the late Neal Glass Sr. and Hazel (Stayton) McCan. In 1972, she married Lon E. Thompson Sr. Peggy was a business manager in the healthcare field. She attended Bible Baptist Church. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed crocheting handmade gifts.
She is survived by her husband, Lon, two daughters: Dawn (Greg Troike and Dana (Mark) Young, one step son, Lon Thompson Jr., seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three sisters: Karen Trusty, Barb McCan and Jill Palm and three brothers: Rick, Doug and Jack McCan. She was preceded in death by one brother, Neal “Skippy” Glass Jr. and one step brother, Mike McCan.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth. Arrangements were made by Rannells Funeral Home in Hamlet, Indiana.
KEVIN E. BROWN
NORTH JUDSON, IN - Kevin E. Brown, 72, died Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, Indiana, after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body dementia. He was born August 30, 1953 in Knox, Indiana to the late Calvin and Charlotte (Hankey) Brown. On August 16, 1975, in Winamac, he married Mary Mohr. Kevin was a 1971 graduate of North Judson High School and attended Ball State University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in education. He started his teaching and coaching career at North Judson Middle School in 1976 where he taught Physical Education and Health. He coached football, basketball and one year of baseball. Kevin coached football for 16 seasons and was proud to be part of 3 state runner up titles. He was the head girls basketball coach at North Judson for 21 seasons with a record of 348-105 and included 12 conference titles, 11 sectional titles and 5 regional titles while reaching the Class 2A Final four twice. He received numerous state and district Coach of the Year awards from the Indiana Basketball Association and was a 12-time Conference Coach of the Year winner. Kevin was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he served on several church boards.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, three daughters: Melissa (Gabe) Hamelman of Layette, Indiana, Michelle (Chris) Cahoe of Yorktown, Indiana and Megan (Chris) Hittle of North Judson, six grandchildren, one great granddaughter with another great grandchild on the way and one brother, Craig (Debbie) Brown of Mishawaka, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Brown.
Services were held Thursday, July 23 at St Peter Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Memorials may be made to theh NJ-SP girls basketball program or the St. Peter Lutheran church/ school.
Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.
SHARON A. LEMKE
NORTH JUDSON, IN - Sharon A. Lemke, 81, died Sunday, July 19, 2026 at her home. She was born September 2, 1944. On December 22, 1973, she married Raymond J. Lemke.
Sharon worked many jobs over the years, but her careers in EMS and as a Starke County 911 Chief Dispatcher were her favorites.
She is survived by one daughter, Jana (Robert) Manning of North Judson, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and sisters: Susan Hemphill of Knox, Indiana, Melissa Coats of Ohio and Susanna Crow of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, one daughter, Jill Howard, parents: Floyd G. Barnett, Mary Jean Ball and Louis E. Ball and sisters: Linda Barnett Zelner and Patricia “Patti” Barnett Dossett.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 22 at Highland Cemetery in North Judson.
Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.
VIOLA HURT
NORTH JUDSON, IN - Viola Hurt, 83, died Tuesday, July 21, 2026. She was born June 23, 1943 in Salyersville, Kentucky to the late Ricard Rowe and Edith Manns. On October 21, 1974, she married Bobby Hurt.
Viola attended the Free United Baptist Church in North Judson. She loved to cook and bake.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby, six sons: Michael (Vicki) Miller and James (Monica) Miller, both of North Judson, Mark (Margaret) Miller of Winamac, Indiana, Roger (June) Miller of Warsaw, Indiana, David Miller of Knox, Indiana and James (Jenny) Hurt of Rochester, Indiana, one daughter, Elizabeth (Chuck) Brettin of North Judson, twenty seven grandchildren, fifty three great grandchildren and thirty seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Miller, one son, Luke Miller, three grandchildren: James Miller Jr., Chastity Miller and Darcy Hurt, one infant daughter, Tammy Hurt and one brother, Hoy Stacy.
Services were held Saturday, July 25 at the Free United Baptist Church. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox.
Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.
MARILYN J. HAYS
KNOX - Marilyn J. Hays, 89, died Sunday, July 19, 2026 in Knox, Indiana. She was born October 2, 1936 in Walkerton, Indiana to the late Lowell and Florence (Beem) Bradley.
Marilyn was a member of the Knox United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, quilting, needlework, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family. She had worked as a Nurse.
She is survived by two sons: Daryl Reed of North Judson, Indiana and Garry (Jackie) Reed of Culver, Indiana, one daughter, Cheryl (Burlie) Stacy of Knox, three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and three sisters: Shirley Troyer and Rita (Dave) Harley, both of Knox and Carol (Dean) Fasal of North Judson. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hays, one daughter, Sandra Kripisch, one grandson, Scott Stacy, one great grandchild, Mariah and siblings: Kenneth Bradley and Linda Dickson.
Services were held Friday, July 24 at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ben Carpenter officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Fletcher Cemetery in Hamlet, Indiana.
Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

“Jim” Rose, 93, died Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at his home. He was born September 18, 1932. On June 4, 1955 he married Bertha Garling.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha, one son, Craig (Ann) Rose and one daughter, Linda Hawkey, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, July 21 at Saint James Salem UCC in Francesville, Indiana. Burial was in the Saint James Salem Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.
PEGGY ANN LAWRENCE
KNOX, IN - Peggy Ann Lawrence, 94, died Monday, July 20, 2026. She was born March 8, 1932 to the late Ted and Sally Anderson. Peggy was an educator for 30 years. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, working puzzles, playing bingo and spending time with her family. She is survived by one son, Todd (Sarah) Lawrence, seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one sister, Judy Sinn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence and two sons: Brian and Brad Lawrence.
Services were held Thursday, July 23 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox. Memorials may be made to Dunes Hospice.
Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
JAMES J. McGRORY
KNOX, IN - (BASS LAKE) - James J. McGrory, 98, died Saturday, July 18, 2026 at his home. He was born November 15, 1927 in Donegal, Ireland to the late Henry and Margaret McGrory.
James worked many years for Republic Steel and was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and the Knights of Columbus, having served as Past Grand Knight and was also a longtime member of the Bass Lake Lions Club. He loved to garden and was known for his beautiful flowers, especially roses. He is survived by his children: Celine Boers of Calumet City, Illinois, Mary (Thomas) Borowy of Hobart, Indiana, Jim McGrory of Plymouth, Indiana and Sheila (Patrick) Martin of Beaverton, Oregon, eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Sweeney of Donegal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Robina (Molloy) McGrory and seven siblings.
A funeral mass was held on Friday, July 24 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial was in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City.
Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
SUSAN KAY RAMEY STEVENS
HARRISON, OH - Susan Kay “Sue” Ramey Stevens, 81, died Friday, July 10, 2026 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born January 21,1945 in Monon, Indiana to the late Ivan and Rosemary (Hughes) Owings.
Sue graduated from Monon High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana and a Master’s degree from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was a longtime member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and she lived a life definded by music, love and education. She taught K-12 students in choral music, show choir and band. Her career began at North Newton and spent many years at West Central before retiring from North White. She was a beautiful singer and accomplished clarinetist. She loved to travel and enjoyed reading, perform, good meals with friends and she loved her family very much.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Stevens, children: Chad (Leslie) Ramey, Mandy (Phil) Keller and Monica Ramey and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husbands: William D. Ramey and Robert E. Burns and one brother, Jim Owings.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-8pm EDT on Wednesday, August 5 at Frain Mortuary. A memorial mass will be held at 11am EDT on Thursday, August 6 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello, Indiana with Rev. Daniel Duff officiating. Burial will be in the Bedford Cemetery in Monon. Memorials may be made to West Central Music Boosters or Paws of Dearborn County.
Local arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Francesville, Indiana.
