“Greg” Podell, 69, died Saturday, August 3, 2024. He was born May 25, 1955, in Logansport, Indiana, to the late Robert and Anna (Porter) Podell, Sr. On August 14, 1981, in Winamac, he married Betty M. Smith.
Greg was a 1973 graduate of Winamac High School and attended Purdue University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and the John Purdue Club. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was an avid supporter of Purdue athletics especially football and basketball. Most of his professional career was spent in the waste and recycling equipment industry, starting with Galbreath, Inc. in Winamac and others and most recently was a founding partner of Parts Express USA. He was a member of the Detachable Container Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially while playing golf, traveling, camping and many family trips to Disney World.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons: Brian Housinger and Kyle (Isabella) Podell, one daughter, Emily (Andrew) Kruger, seven grandchildren, one great grandson and two brothers: Robert M. (Mollie) Podell, Jr. and Douglas J. (Cheryl) Podell.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24 from 1-3pm at Greg Norman in Barefoot Landing. Memorial donations may be made to the Purdue University Institute of Cancer Research and/or the Cheryl Lyn Welter Charitable.
KNOX, IN - Sheldon Paul Berndt, 79, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024. He was born June 20, 1945, in Hamlet, Indiana, to the late Peter and Jeanette (Hausen) Berndt.
Sheldon was a veteran of the US Army and was an active member of the VFW Post #748 in Knox. He was employed at Starke County Co-op for 40 years. He enjoyed mowing the grass, sitting on his back porch, trading stories at Keith’s Barbershop, watching Notre Dame football, watching his grandchildren’s games and recitals, offering a helping hand, being a prankster and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Berndt, children: Kelly (Todd) Gerlach, Keith (Janeen) Berndt and Brett (Andrea) Berndt, six grandchildren and siblings: Helen Guriel, Jerry (Bonita) Berndt, Alan (Linda) Berndt, Kim (Garry) Potts and Brian (Sherry) Berndt.
Services were held Saturday, August 10, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox.
Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
WINAMAC, IN - Bobby Joe Creasy, 80, died Saturday, August 3, 2024, at his home. He was born August 19, 1943, in Hunterville, Missouri, to the late Hobart Jones and Ruby Grace (James) Creasy. On June 15,1963, in Portageville, Missouri, he married Alice F. White.
Bobby was a 1962 graduate of Risco High School and was a veteran of the US Army and honorably discharged as a Disabled American Veteran. He worked most of his life at Galbreath and Galfab in Winamac. He enjoyed retirement in Tennessee and returned to Winamac in 2021 to be closer to family. He enjoyed life and living it simply.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, two sons: Charles (Sherry) Creasy of Star City, Indiana and Benjamin (Adela) Creasy of Zionsville, Indiana, two grandchildren and two brothers: Kenneth L. (Darlene) Creasy and Richard L. Creasy, both of Winamac. He was preceded in death by two infant sisters: Juanita Louis and Neva
Creasy. Graveside services were held Thursday, August 8, at the Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac. Memorial contributions may be made to LifeWise Academy or the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
DENHAM, IN - Donald Bryce Day, 39, died Thursday, August 8, 2024, at his home. He was born February 16, 1985, in Winamac, Indiana, to Kevin W. and Peggy J. (Minix) Day.
Bryce enjoyed fishing with his family and had a contagious sense of humor.
He is survived by two sons: Brycen and Isaac, one daughter, Bryleigh, his parents, Kevin and Peggy Day of Denham and two sisters: Candace (Mason) Burdette of Kouts, Indiana and Cara (Kane) Hurlburt of Winamac. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Isabella and one brother, Brandon W. Day.
Private services were held. Burial will be in the Denham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o Kevin Day.

ORLANDO, FL, FORMERLY OF MONTEREY, IN - Christine M. “Chris” Fox, 86, died Monday, August 5, 2024, at her home. She was born April 19, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Boksa) Penska. On November 17, 1956, in Monterey, she married Ralph J. Fox. He died May 4, 2007.
Chris loved bowling, traveling, playing cards and dice with family and friends. She was known for her kindnesses to others. She had worked at Eaton’s for over 20 years and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and FOE #2580 Auxiliary. She is survived by four daughters: Victoria Fox of Orlando, Ann (Dennis) Plummer of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Sara (Bobby) Lawson of Kokomo, Indiana and Angie (John) Fox of Niceville, Florida, two sons: Ron (Thelma) Fox of Winamac and Randy (Airetta) Fox of Zephyrhills, Florida, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and one brother, Joseph (Mary) Penska of Winamac.
Visitation from 4-8pm EDT on Thursday, August 15, at Frain Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held at 11am EDT, Friday, August 16, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Anthony Rowland officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anne’s Cemetery in Monterey. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne’s Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
WINAMAC, IN - Ronald Arthur Powers, 89, died Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was born March 28, 1935 to the late Albert and Hazel (Zellers) Powers. On June 25, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, he married Judith Wegner.
Ron was a veteran of the US Army, having served in France. He was well-known, involved and respected in his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had served as Grand Knight and implemented the successful Bingo program. He spent many years helping with the Pulaski County 4-H Fair, served as a member of the Pulaski County Council for 2 terms and sponsored endless Denham Agri-Center baseball and softball teams in North Judson, Indiana through the years. Faith, family and farming brought him the most joy. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He was a farmer, trucker and owner in the grain and fertilizer business. He was an avid North Judson Bluejays fan having cheered on his children and grandchildren through all their sports years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, children: Sharon and
Steve, grandchildren: Ashlyn and Alyssa and siblings.
