HENRY RUIZ
NORTH JUDSON, IN - Henry Ruiz, 68, died at 9:42am, Monday, June 19, 2023, at Northwest Health in La Porte, Indiana. He was born November 8, 1954, in Kingsville, Texas, to Juan Valentine and Grace (Saldana) Ruiz. On November 18, 1972, he married Michele Collopy.
Henry loved to work and had many skills and a great work ethic. He was a complete man of God. He was superintendent of waste water for the town of Kingsford Heights, Indiana. He enjoyed music and fishing and playing both guitar and bass.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle, four children: Adam (Megan) Ruiz, Anna (John) Ciapponi, Henry Matthew (Dana) Ruiz and Michael (Rhianna) Ruiz, sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, Jerry (Anita) Ruiz and two sisters: Norma (Sam) Winer and Noelia Ruiz. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan and one brother, Pastor John Ruiz.
A celebration of life was held on Friday, July 7 at Bible Baptist Church in Knox.
Arrangements were made by Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory in La Porte.
ROGER A. QUERRY
FRANCESVILLE, IN - Roger A. Querry, 79, died Monday, July 3, 2023, at his home. He was born October 8, 1943, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Harry G. and Rachel E. (McGee) Querry. On June 16, 1968, in Francesville, he married Patricia A. Wright.
Roger was a 1961 graduate of Francesville High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and a Master’s degree from Southern Nazarene University. He worked for American Fidelity Assurance Co. in Oklahoma for 30 years and retired to Indiana in 2004. He enjoyed serving the Lord for over 30 years through the Billy Graham Association and Samaritan’s Purse. He loved spending time with his family and his dogs, reading the Bible and historical autobiographies and living quietly in the country.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, one son, Jason T. (Rebecca) Querry of Springfield, Missouri, four grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela E. Neidlinger and two brothers: Norman Querry and an infant brother.
Private burial was held in the Roseland Cemetery in Francesville. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.
WILLIAM E. HATTABAUGH
RENSSELAER, IN - FORMERLY OF FRANCESVILLE, IN - William E. “Bill” Hattabaugh, 82, died at 7:30pm, Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Rensselaer, Indiana. He was born August 27, 1940, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late William N. and Esther (Ballard) Hattabaugh.
Bill worked as a farmhand for Wuethrich farms for many years and also a short time at Talberts. He enjoyed participating in local festivals and parades, car and truck shows (people loved his funny cars), attending stock car races, building model cars, reading Hot Rod magazine, playing the mandolin, singing and being social with the residents and staff at the Rensselaer Care Center, where he spent his later years of life, telling stories and making people laugh.
He is survived by three sisters: Karen (Marvin) Hartley of Rensselaer, Carol (Robert) Inman of Wolcott, Indiana and Audrey Tinkle of Idaville, Indiana. he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hattabaugh and one sister, Mary Hattabaugh.
Private burial was held at the Osborne Cemetery in Rensselaer.
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.
DOLORES E. SYNAK
AIKEN, SC - Dolores E. Synak, 97, died Friday, June 30, 2023, at her home. She was born May 26, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Martin and Agnes (Mikoda) Zahorsky. On November 28, 1944, in El Cerrito, California, she married Frank C. Synak.
Dolores was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski, Indiana and St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Aiken, South Carolina. She was an avid quilter and talented seamstress and a loving and devoted mother. She loved her family very much.
She is survived by three daughters: Charla (John) Ebenroth and Rhana Synak, both of Aiken and Franki (George) Chabalewski of Richmond, Virginia, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, three sisters: Dorothy Vanac, Bernice Fisher and Violet Hoffman.
Services were held Saturday, June 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery South in Pulaski. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac, Indiana.

NORTH JUDSON, IN - FORMERLY OF ROCHESTER AND WINAMAC, IN
- Penny Sue Bickham Willing, 63, died Sunday, July 9, 2023, at her home, following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. She was born February 28, 1960, in Hammond, Indiana, to the late Clifford and Jacqueline Hart Bickham.
Penny was an RN and had worked at Pulaski Memorial Hospital and at St. Joseph Hospital in Plymouth, Indiana. She was a member of the Church of the Heartland in Rochester and was deeply committed to her faith in God, which helped her through tough times. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with her friends and at church. She enjoyed caring for family, friends and her patients. She was an artist and enjoyed painting, decorating her homes that she rehabbed and flipped, working in her yard and spending time with family.
She is survived by four daughters: Jacqueline J. (Khalfani) Milan of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sharaya (Monroe) Timm of North Judson, Kimberly Campbell and Kelly Kai Campbell, both of Cookville, Tennessee, one son, Jordan I. Darnall of North Judson, thirteen grandchildren, one brother, Gary (Debbie) Bickham of Roselawn, Indiana and one sister, Georgia (Dieter) Goess of Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by one brother, Terrance “Terry” Bickham. Arrangements are pending. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
ROBERT W. MCKEE
NORTH JUDSON, IN - Robert W. McKee, 91, died Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Northwest Health Starke in Knox, Indiana. He was born September 27, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Wesley and Esther (Coperthorn) McKee. On June 15, 1951, in Crown Point, Indiana, she married Judith McDonald.
Robert was a 1949 graduate of Lowell High School and went to Youngstown University in Ohio. He spent his entire career working as an industrial engineer, retiring from Carmuese Lime. He has resided in North Judson for the past 21 years. He enjoyed traveling and was a world traveler. He was a former member of the Cedar Lake Fire Department and a 50 Year Award of Gold member of the North Judson Masonic Lodge #438.
He is survived by his companion, Rosey Ameidei of North Judson, two daughters: Anita Leonard of West Bend, Wisconsin and Elizabeth (David) Kupkee of Greenwood, Indiana, two sons: Steward (Kelley) McKee of
Shelby, Indiana and Scott (Jessica) McKee of Cedar Lake, ten grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and one great great grandson, and one sister, Judith Evans of Cedar Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith, one grandson, Scottie McKee and two brothers: Roger and William McKee.
Services were held Friday, July 7, at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell, with Rev. Sean Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Lowell Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Local arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home, North Judson.
RUBY MAY DEWEESE
MONTICELLO, IN - Ruby May DeWeese, 69, died Thursday, July 6, 2023, at IU Health Arnett Hospital Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. She was born August 11, 1953, in Rensselaer, Indiana, to Jerry and Virginia (Davis) Thompson.
Ruby had worked as a CNA and QMA at nursing homes, hospitals and in home health care. She was a devoted wife and mother and a hard worker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dogs.
She is survived by one daughter, Bobbie Jo Fleming of Fair Oaks, Indiana, one son, Brian Matthew Toosley of Lafayette, fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, her father, Jerry Thompson of Fair Oaks and one sister, Kimberly Humphrey of Remington, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one son, William O’Neil Toosley, one daughter, Billie Joe Matthews, her first husband, William M. Toosley, second husband, Larry J. DeWeese, one brother, Tracey Bednar and grandparents, Elwin O’Neil Davis and Bessie Davis.
Burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
SHIRLEY E. MCDANIEL
BATESVILLE, IN - FORMERLY OF NORTH JUDSON, IN - Shirley E. McDaniel, 73, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, Indiana. She was born December 11, 1949, in Starke County, Indiana to the late Elsie (Saine) and Morris Fredrick Madsen.
Shirley was a homemaker and had worked as a waitress and bartender before retiring. She was known as “Aunt Tub” by friends and relatives. She enjoyed tending her garden, planting flowers, music, dancing and spending time with her family. She is survived by three daughters: Cheryl McDaniel of Princeton, Indiana, Shelby (John White) Hatfield of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Jamie (Todd) Nobbe of Batesville, two sons: Brad (Brooke) McDaniel of Bridgeport, Illinois and Michael (Suzie) McDaniel of Lawrenceville, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three sisters: Donna Smith of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, Elsie (Gary) Danekas of San Pierre, Indiana and Kathy (Bill) Schrag of LaCrosse, Indiana and three brothers: Kenneth Madsen of Plymouth, Indiana, Jim (Sherry) Madsen of North Judson and George Madsen of Missouri. She was preceded in death by one grandson, John H. Davis III, sister, Mae Fort, and five brothers: infant twins, Paul, Junior and Bobby Madsen.
A graveside service will be held at 12 (Noon), Saturday, July 15, at the Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Memorials may be made to So Loved Kids Closet in Batesville.
