CHICAGO, IL - William Ryan “Billy” Witte, 44, died Friday, December 29, 2023, at his home from a long and courageous battle with ALS.. He was born June 5, 1979, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to William Joseph and Roslynne Mattano Witte. In February of 2020, in Mexico, he married Alexa Mather. Billy was a personal trainer in Chicago and his passion for health and fitness allowed him to help hundreds of clients, with whom he formed many friendships over the years. He enjoyed traveling to Maui, Hawaii. He is survived by his wife, parents and an older brother. Graveside services were held at the Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming, Michigan, with Rev. Mark Peacock officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Billy’s wife, Alexa Mather-Witte or to an ALS organization. Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary in Winamac, Indiana.

(Lorrie) Gardner and one sister, Connie Gardner, all of Knox. Services were held Saturday, January 6, at the M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox. Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Dale “Pete” VanCuren, 63, died Friday, December 29, 2023, at his home. He was born September 22, 1960, to the late Dale and Carol (Elea) VanCuren. Pete loved being outdoors, spending time with his family, watching the Cubs play, antiquing, refinishing furniture, landscaping, walking his dog and wearing a flannel. He is survived by two sons: Dale (Kim) VanCuren III and Matthew (Tessa) VanCuren, five grandchildren, four sisters: Sue (Greg) Branson, Mary VanMeerbeek, Maggie Foor and Dorothy VanCuren and three brothers: George (Mary) VanCuren, Tony (Kim) VanCuren and Ottie (Michelle) VanCuren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn VanCuren-Scott. Services were held Wednesday, January 3, at the Braman & Bailey Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson.

KNOX, IN - Dolores Jean Smith, 85, died Sunday, December 31, 2023, at her home. She was born March 27, 1938, in Knox, Indiana, to the late Reuben and Vera Warner. On June 7, 1964, she married Russell Smith. Dolores was a homemaker, who lovingly cared for her disabled daughter for many years. She was an avid reader, loved to knit and loved gardening. She is survived by her husband, Russell, one daughter, Judith (Mike) Ditmire and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheryle Smith and three brothers: Roger, Richard and Ronald Warner. Services were held Wednesday, January 3, at the M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Eagle Creek Cemetery in Knox. Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

KNOX, IN - Millard Michael “Mike” Spicka, 93, died Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born September 1, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Millard M. Spicka Sr. and Helen (Kaptain) Spicka. Mike was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War. He had been a very active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Knox, and is a former Grand Knight of the Queen of All Saints Council 6347 Knights of Columbus, on the board of directors of the Bailey-Cox-Newtson Conservancy District, a precinct committeeman for Starke County Center Township Precinct 6 and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting. He is survived by one son, Joseph (Lynette) Spicka, three grandsons and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Spicka and three sisters: Ruthann, Virginia and Nancy. Services were held Thursday, January 4, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial was held Friday, January 5, at the Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois. Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

MEDARYVILLE, IN - Sandra J. Eberhart, 79, died Sunday, April 2, 2023. She was born August 11, 1943, in La Porte, Indiana, to the late Ernie and Clara (Eckert) Zimmerman. On August 5, 1967, in Medaryville, she married Kenton D. Eberhart. Sandra was self employed at her beauty shop. She enjoyed cooking, baking and her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Kenton, one son, Chad (Rachel) Eberhart, two grandchildren and one brother, Bruce (Karen) Zimmerman. Graveside services were held on April 6, at the White Post Cemetery in Medaryville, with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating. Arrangements were made by Boersma Funeral Home in Wheatfield, Indiana.

KNOX, IN - Ressie Marie Smith, 86, died Friday, January 5, 2024. She was born June 3, 1937, in Morgan County, Kentucky, to the late Homer Patrick Sr. and Offa McCarty Patrick. Ressie loved going to church and reading the Bible and planting and tending to her flowers. She is survived by four children: Wanda (Ron) Suryk of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Eddie (Janet) Smith of North Judson, Indiana, Brenda (Jay) Wiley of Indianapolis, Indiana and Rickie (Sherry) Smith of Knox, eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and one brother, Jim Patrick of Plymouth, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Smith and siblings: Ina, Meda, Homer Jr., Susie, Otis, Herschal, Luther, Janice, Dorsie and Donald. Services were held Saturday, January 13, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox. Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
