Elizabeth MacDonald is living her best life, and that’s saying something, considering the life she’s lived so far. Flight attendant, TV reporter, talk show host and news anchor are just a few of the jobs she’s tackled to date, not to mention high school English teacher and published author. Each title represents a unique adventure. Take flight attendant, for example. After graduating from college with a degree in secondary education, MacDonald decided she needed to discover life experiences that just weren’t possible in Fort Wayne. An airline was hiring flight attendants, offering the option of a home base in San Francisco. With zero hesitation, MacDonald took the job. “I got off the call,” she said, “looked at the phone receiver and thought, ‘What just happened?’ ” What happened was an experience that was to define each of her future careers: a full immersion in the position, in this case resulting in a promotion to a management position in her 11-year stint with the airline, during which she attended graduate school. Next came a job in broadcasting. “I was living my dream,” she said. A move back to Fort Wayne and a chance conversation with a local school district superintendent landed her in a new gig as a school administrator and later as an English teacher at South Side High School.
