Michelle Brouyette’s kindergarten class at Columbia Elementary School, Rochester, was trying to get ready for a Thanksgiving feast and were looking for turkeys. Unfortunately, they can’t find a single one, or can they?

It was the students job to disguise a turkey to help keep them from being the main course for the Thanksgiving dinner. The students had to use items they found around their house to dress the turkey up in a clever disguise so the bird couldn’t be found. The kindergartners were able to use things like fabric, paper scraps, ribbons, tissue paper, craft feathers, crayons and anything else they were able to find.

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR Rochester woman inducted into Eagles Hall of Fame %\ /$85,( /(&+/,71(5 *XHVW :ULWHU “I joined the Eagles Auxiliary in 1990,” stated Lois Lyons, Rochester. “My husband Michael is active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Rochester, and I wanted to be involved in the sister organization. I’ve held every office in the local auxiliary except secretary/treasurer. I’ve also held every office in the district except secretary/treasurer.

I’ve held every office in the state except secretary. I’m now the state treasurer.”

This past June 19 at the state convention, Lyons received a

plaque and was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame.

“We met the third week of June for our state convention at the Marriott Convention Center in Indianapolis,” Lyons explained. “I had no idea I’d receive a plaque or be inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame. I was both surprised and honored.”

She and Michael make a good team. “When I was captain/president of the ritual team, Michael and I traveled the whole state, recognizing aeries and auxiliaries that had been around for many years. There are 80 aeries in the state and 63 auxiliaries.”

meeting fellow Eagles. “We’ve traveled to conventions all across the U.S. and Canada. Sometimes we’re gone for a week at a time. I get to meet so many nice people.

I met a lady in Reno, Nevada, that I’m still friends with. She’s from Portland, Oregon. I’m the type who walks right up to a person and introduces myself.”

She believes in what the Eagles stand for. “We’re people helping people. We work with about 12 charities in the area.

We offer college scholarships to area high schoolers. This past year, our local 852 gave money for Rochester High School’s soccer field. We raise money for cancer research and the Max Baer Heart Fund. The FOE also has a diabetes research center in Des Moines, Iowa.”

Her favorite office at the local level is that of conductor. “I ready the room for the meetings. I set up the flag and put out the Bible.

Then I place the Mother-head in a prominent position, honoring the woman who started the Eagles Auxiliary. With each article, I say words of explanation that I’ve memorized. It’s a meaningful and solemn ceremony that happens before each meeting.”

All auxiliary members are responsible for the recruiting of new members. “Each applicant has to have two auxiliary

The Lyons have been married 38 years. “We have four grown children and a parcel of grandchildren and even some great grandchildren. My favorite thing about being a grandma is the interactions I have with my grandchildren. I like having fun with them and love to buy them things.”

She enjoys doing things that stretch her mind, such as word search puzzles. She also has a collection of owls, both figurines and stuffed, and a display of hen and rooster figurines in her home.

“Owls have always been my good-luck charm. A few weeks back, I spotted a white snowy owl in our area. The bird was so beautiful. Seeing one around here is a real rarity.”

She encourages young people to join the FOE and the auxiliary. “It’s fun and we’re helping people,” she concluded.

That is the Belles and Beaus Club in North Manchester. Shepherd’s Pie Good neighbors: Here is the foolproof formula — you pick the mix-ins. There are five steps to this wonderful dish and requires a bit more effort than just a ground beef stir fry with mashed potatoes on top.

Cook the potatoes: Peel 2 pounds potatoes (choose one kind) and cut into large chunks. You can leave the skin on Yukon or red-skinned potatoes. Peel the skins off russet potatoes. You choose the variety you want. Cover the potatoes with cold water in a large pot; season with salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook until tender, 20 minutes.

Pick your meat: Choose one kind or use a combination — you’ll need 1-1/2 pounds total of ground beef, ground lamb, or ground turkey.

Make your filling: 1. While potatoes cook, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in 1 chopped onion or sliced leek and 2 large carrots, parsnips or turnips (or a combination). Season with salt and pepper, stirring until vegetables are soft, 5-7 minutes.

2. Increase the heat to medium heat and add the ground meat. Cook, breaking up meat with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink, 6 minutes.

Spoon off fat and season with 1/2 half teaspoon kosher salt and a few grinds of black pepper. Stir in 2 finely chopped garlic cloves or 1 teaspoon jarred minced and 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme or 1 teaspoon fresh finely chopped thyme; cook until softened, 1-2 minutes.

3. Make a space in the center of the skillet; add 3 tablespoons tomato paste and cook, stirring until darkened, about 1 minute. Stir into meat mixture 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. Stir in 3/4 cup dry wine or red wine, tomato juice or stout. Simmer until the skillet is nearly dry, about 2 minutes.

Add 1 cup low-sodium broth and simmer until the mixture is saucy, 4-5 minutes.

Choose your mix-ins: Stir in 1 cup frozen vegetables: peas, corn, Lima beans, or mixed small vegetables. Transfer to a 3-quart baking dish.

Assemble the dish: Drain the potatoes and return to pot, Add 4 tablespoons butter and 2/3 cup half-and-half or whole milk; mash well. Season potatoes with salt and pepper and add up to 3

of the following mix-ins; 2 chopped scallions, 1 clove garlic, grated or 1 teaspoon jarred; 3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese; 1-2 tablespoons dijon mustard; or 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish. Spread potato mixture over meat with back of spoon. Bake at 425 degrees oven, preheated, until golden, about 20 minutes. Let cool at least 10 minutes.

Cast iron care Good neighbors: Never wash cast iron in soapy water. Clean in running water and always dry on top of a stove with high heat until completely dry. Add a few drops of veritable oil and coat bottom and sides. When cast iron is rusty or not releasing foods; wash, dry and oil generously, then bake in the over at 450 degrees for four hours. Usually it just takes one deep cleaning and you have a nice pan again. When you have stuck on food, soak in a little water and use a hard plastic scraper or something that “scrubs.” When storing, put a clean coffee filter in your pan to protect the surface — Another cast iron lover.

I don’t really have a good answer for that but thought I could recommend an organization we like and trust. John James (Jim) Brazil, 74, Rochester, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Saturday Nov. 13, 2021, surrounded by his family at his residence.

Jim was born June 25, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., to James and Helen (Chmelarsky) Brazil.

His family moved to Geauga County, Ohio, where he spent his childhood with his sisters Jackie and -2+1 -$0(6 Judy.

-,0 %5$=,/ Jim met the love of his life, Janet Irene Jayne, they married Oct. 9, 1971, and shared 50 years of life adventures together.

Jim was active in the Jaycees in Burton, Ohio, he volunteered at the Log Cabin on Burton Square, collecting maple sap and making maple candy.

Jim and Jan became parents to a son, Brian, in 1973 and a daughter, Wendy, in 1976. Jim’s family became his everything. He was by his children’s side and active in whatever activity they were in, whether it was making derby race cars for Boy Scouts to loading horses for horse shows. For 15 years Jim and Jan would take their children to the Ohio State Fair for 4-H square dancing competitions, and you could find them as well at the Great Geauga County Fair camping and supporting his children 4-H and GHPA. Jim liked to end the day with a piece of pie from the Hambend Grange booth. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Brian.

Jim was active in the Hubs Square dance club. He worked at the Geauga County Highway Department for 31½ years.

Jim was baptized in the early ‘80s at Faith Baptist Church in Newbury, Ohio, where he became a member and later a trustee for 40 years then became a member of United Methodist church. Although his children grew up got married and moved out of state — he loved any time he could get with his grandchildren. Jim was truly the wind beneath his family’s wings.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Helen Brazil, sisters, Jackie Sherman and Judy Bosley.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Brazil of Rochester; son, Brian and Elsy-Rose Brazil of Lorton, Va.; daughter, Wendy and Matt Reinartz of Rochester; grandchildren, Mindy and Cody Brazil of Centerville and Fairfax, Va., respectively and Kyle and Tanner Reinartz of Rochester. He was known as Uncle Jimmy to all his nephews and nieces — they thought he was the best uncle.

Celebration of life will be held in the spring at the United Methodist church in Middlefield, Ohio. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros.

Carlotta D. Roe Retired from Hart Schaffner and Marx Carlotta D. Roe, 89, Rochester, passed away at 10:56 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

She was born March 17, 1932, in Knox, the daughter of William and Doris (Corey) Solliday.

On April 8, 1952 in Rochester, she married George H. “Doc” Roe. He preceded her in death &$5/277$ ' Aug. 18, 2001.

52( Carlotta had worked for Wile’s Department Store and retired from Hart Schaffner and Marx. She enjoyed interior decorating her home.

Survivors include her children, Wayne Douglas Roe, John Patrick Roe, Mary Sue O’Dell, Nancy Patricia Hart, all of Rochester; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Marks, Angola; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Tillman and brother, William Solliday.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros.

Suzanne M. Waltz, 71, Rochester, passed away at 4:07 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Life Care Center of Rochester.

She was born Aug, 5, 1950, in Rochester, the daughter of William H. and Norma (Wagoner) Caddy Sr. On Oct, 24, 1981 in Rochester, she married 68=$11( 0 Byron W. Waltz; he survives. :$/7= Suzanne had worked at Manitou Training Center and attended Living Faith Ministries. She enjoyed playing games and was active in Life Care Center activities over the years.

Survivors include her brother, Pat Caddy, Columbia City; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, William H. Caddy Jr. and David A. Caddy, and sister, Marilyn Caddy.

Annette Wise Member of Fulton County Historical Society Annette Wise, 55, Indianapolis and formerly of Rochester, passed away at 4:31 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, at Eskenazi Hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born Jan. 14, 1966, in Tipton. She was the daughter of John Hartman and Sharon Sue (Vance) Kelley.

On Nov. 22, 2003, in Rochester, she married Michael Wise. He preceded her in death March 6, 2017.

Annette had been a homemaker. A fan of history, she belonged to the Fulton County Historical Society and was an active contributor to the website Find a Grave. Annette was an organ donor, her gift provides life to three other people.

Survivors include her sisters, Darlene (Jack) Criswell, Kokomo, Lee Ann (Jason) Kirk, Peru, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Thanksgiving with real meaning (Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-28)

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18) When the early church gathered, their purpose was to give thanks.

It was a part and parcel of their worship. %\ 5(9 521 Someone 385.(< had a psalm, someone had a prayer, someone had a word from the Lord, and a lot of people had an opportunity to say thank you. When we have fellowship with believers in smaller groups, it is good to have a time of giving thanks.

In Ephesians 5:18, Paul cautions us to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

And what will happen? “Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Joy, rejoicing, prayer and praise will happen. In Ephe-

sians 5:20, he says, “Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

According to the Apostle Paul, a Spirit-filled believer is a thankful believer, a joyful believer, a praying believer. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, thanks will gush out of you for everything.

Even in times of trouble, Paul says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). In times of great anxiety, fear, worry and stress, be thankful. “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. … Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:15, 17).

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, the responsibility of the Christian believer to the Lord is described in terms of his heart attitude. He is to have inward incessant joy, continual unceasing prayer, constant daily thanks. And these three commands — rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks — penetrate the innermost recesses of the redeemed heart.

They are the best measurement of a person’s spiritual condition.

It will lead to a right attitude in all your duties, responsibilities and ministries. If you are not a

joyful, prayerful, thankful person, you are struggling with the flesh.

When the Holy Spirit controls you, those things fall into place.

Then the Apostle Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” This is attached to all three of those commands, not just the last one. God’s will in Christ Jesus is that you would have constant joy, constant prayer and constant thanks.

If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will speak to yourself in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. That is rejoicing. And you will offer that to the Lord, because that is prayer. You will give thanks. Because it’s good to be in the family of God and have faith in Jesus Christ.

Promise Indiana Fulton County Giving Tuesday %\ %(77< 0$57(1 *XHVW :ULWHU &RRUGLQDWRU 3URPLVH ,QGLDQD )XOWRQ &RXQW\ Promise Indiana Fulton County was started in 2016 by the Steering Committee with the Northern Indiana Community Foundation as their pass-through agency. Now a part of the Indiana Youth Institute, the promise program has one goal, helping Fulton County families plan and save for post high school education.

They do this through encouraging and helping families start College Choice Direct 529 savings accounts.

Students in the Caston and Rochester School Corporations have started more than 700 accounts and 100% of those accounts have received at least $25 from their funds. More than 69% of their students have earned at least one more of our incentives.

College Choice Direct 529 funds are only accessed after a student is 18 years old and can only be spent on expenses of post

high school education. This includes tuition and supplies for traditional two and four year colleges and universities, trade, vocational, and technical schools.

In total and thanks to their generous donors, the promise has contributed a total of nearly $83,000 to Fulton County students since 2016. Their families have contributed almost $260,000 during the same time period. Developing a habit of saving is part of the promise plan and it certainly looks like this is happening in our community.

The last two years alone have seen deposits in student accounts of more than $18,000 per year from their promise funds. They are hoping to continue this program with their incentives at their present rate, but they need community help to maintain this level.

“Giving Tuesday” is coming up Nov. 30. This is an excellent opportunity to take a donation to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation and help the promise earn a community match. If

you won’t be in town that day, you can also drop them off at the Northern Indiana Community Foundation office earlier. As long as your check is dated Nov. 30, it will earn the “Giving Tuesday” match.

Help the promise help Fulton County students and their families plan for the future. Any amount is helpful, be it $20 or $2,000. Research has shown even a savings of as little is $300 makes a difference in students enrolling and finishing a post high school education program.

Of special note is a unique incentive offered to all Indiana Promise families during the months of September and October. Hoping to provide families with the opportunity for their children to have experiential learning, Indiana Youth Institute purchased family memberships to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, 100 memberships; Indianapolis Zoo, 79 memberships; and Fort Wayne Zoo, 40 memberships. Of this total of 219 memberships, 76 families in Fulton County claimed one. That’s nearly 35% of the total memberships offered.

Kudos to the parents who took advantage of this fantastic opportunity for their family.

Homelessness campaign being launched Fulton County HOPE is launching the Hope for Homeless Fundraising Campaign to address the need for affordable housing.

Their campaign is about offering a hand up, of any size, for those working in poverty without a home. If you feel moved by the idea of supporting their mission in ending homelessness in the community, consider donating to this cause. All funds collected will go toward providing equal access to this very basic human need.

Those watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year should keep their eyes open for a local face.

Akron native and Tippecanoe Valley High School senior Brianna Feldman will be one of the many people performing in it.

Feldman’s participating with Spirit of America Productions.

She will be performing a twominute routine alongside several hundred fellow cheerleaders.

“It feels surreal to be participating in the parade,” she said.

“I’m honored to be representing not only my school but also my state as I am the only person from Indiana attending. I’m overall very excited to go and learn new things that I hopefully can bring home and also meet new people.”

Feldman had to try out to be eligible to participate. She said she actually qualified to go last year, but COVID-19 restrictions prevented those under 18 from being in the parade.

This will be Feldman’s first time visiting New York City as

“I’ve been working hard making sure I am ready for all the practices and also learning all the new material that I will perform once I am there,” she said.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 25, on NBC, with an encore from 2-5 p.m. The parade will also be livestreamed on Peacock.

Ivy Tech Circle of Ivy raises funds for local students Members of Ivy Tech Community College’s Circle of Ivy from around the state gathered virtually last week to celebrate their work in support of students at the college’s 19 campuses. Organizers announced, statewide, the more than 1,000 Circle of Ivy members raised $209,713 to fund 78 projects to diminish barriers to higher education and help Ivy Tech students to succeed.

The 103 members of the Kokomo, Logansport, Peru, Rochester, Pulaski and Tipton Circle of Ivy raised a total of $13,950 and chose five projects to support students in Cass, Fulton, Howard, Miami, Pulaski and Tipton counties.

Family sponsors sought for Miracle Tree program Anyone looking for a way to give back this Christmas season can sponsor a family in need within the Rochester School Corporation or Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation through the Miracle Tree program.

Miracle Tree has been a holiday tradition in Fulton County for years thanks to the donors and businesses supporting the program.

The Rochester tree is located at Shepherd’s Chevrolet at the corner of SR 25 and SR 14. Tippy Valley trees are set up at Bell Memorial Public Library in Mentone and Akron Carnegie Public Library. Families who have expressed an interest

in receiving help this year were assigned a number. Those numbers were then placed on ornaments and hung on the trees.

A potential sponsor will know how many children are in the family and their ages. Each family has a wish list for the sponsors to use when shopping, filled with clothing sizes and toys requested.

If a person, business or organization is interested in sponsoring a family, they simply take an ornament from the tree and give it to the front desk at the dealership or library. The sponsor is then provided a wish list for

Sponsors wrap the gifts they purchase and then return them back to a community location specified on each wish list. To avoid any confusion, there are specific instructions

on each wish list on how to mark the gift after it has been wrapped so organizers know which gift belongs to which family and child.

There is no limit to the amount of money a sponsor can spend on a family. Gifts will be distributed to

the families with a drive-thru pick up in December.

The Miracle Tree assisted 254 families and provided Christmas gifts for more 750 children in 2020.

Tech to the rescue: options to save consumers time this holiday season (StatePoint) Despite increased digital options, the typical consumer still spends 13 hours on hold each year! And of course, there are plenty of things that most people would rather be doing with that time, particularly during the busy holiday season.

According to a new survey conducted by Clickatell, a mobile communications and chat commerce company, all of those 13 hours are hours people would rather be spending with family (36%), relaxing (58%) or even doing chores (46%).

The same survey also revealed that waiting on hold isn’t just annoying for consumers, it can have a negative effect on brands too. Of those surveyed, 31% said even spending 5-9 minutes on hold can lead to negative feelings toward a brand, and 23% said they are completely likely to give up on a purchase or brand if they fail to meet them on their preferred communication channel.

“Retailers and businesses need to more broadly ensure that they’re providing an adequate experience for all customers,” says Jennifer Shambroom, chief marketing officer at Clickatell.

According to Clickatell experts, here are some of the strategies that companies can adopt to create better experiences for their customers this holiday season and beyond: • Turn consumers’ irritable hold times into helpful conversations with an end-to-end chat solution that enables live agents to communicate with customers over popular chat apps.

• Fifty percent of millennials have already communicated with a business via chat apps in the past and 71% use chat apps at least daily. Incorporate a payment link in chat apps, such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to enable customers to pay for a purchase where they are already spending their time.

For example, Clickatell’s new Chat 2 Pay solution allows businesses to send consumers a chat message containing a web link that easily takes them through the checkout process. They don’t have to disclose credit card details over the phone or use a point-of-sale device.

They had been perched side by side on the power line that runs along the road past our house.

The next morning my daughter and I drove into town and there were seven bluebirds, perched on the power line, just as my daughter had said they

had been the day before.

Bluebirds are migrants. They fly south for the winter. They leave us in northern Indiana before the first signs of winter. But not this year. Here it was, near the end of October and there were seven bluebirds. We’ve looked for the bluebirds every day since. But they’re gone. We saw them two days. Bluebirds, to us in northern Indiana, are birds of early spring, not late fall.

Bluebirds in northern Indiana are birds that indicate spring. But these birds were there the last week of October.

Then they were gone. But other years when we’ve seen bluebirds it has meant spring is near. We can see the signs. The bluebirds, of course, and days getting longer, nights shorter, buds on the trees swelling, opening,

leaving spreading.

Bluebirds are thrushes, birds of the same family as robins.

They’re very much like robins.

They’re a little smaller. Their heads are blue, not black. Their backs and tails are also blue, not gray like robins. But they have rusty breasts like robins and young bluebirds are spotted, also like robins.

But what were bluebirds doing in northern Indiana late in October? We bird watchers call birds of northern Indiana that time of year, most of which have been with us all winter, year rounders. They’re non-migrants, house sparrows, black-capped chickadees, white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, blue jays and cardinals and at least at our home a few morning doves. One bluebird on the power line in front of our house this time of year would have been a rare bird, seven, in my opinion, were a sensation.

A robin on the power line past our house I’d have called a rare bird. I’ve seen a robin near our house recently. I’ve seen two robins near our house recently, though they weren’t together.

The bluebirds are gone. But the weather is still mild for winter in northern Indiana. It’s been unusually mild for several years. Eight of the last night years have been the mildest on record for northern Indiana and for much of north America.

But back to bluebirds. They’re early spring migrants, as I’ve already written. This winter some have almost been non-migrants.

I’m presuming the bluebirds we

saw a few weeks ago have now gone south. Will they return early also, perhaps even as early as Christmas? Will we have snow, a white Christmas? As a boy I looked forward to a white Christmas and living in northern Iowa I always got my wish for a white Christmas.

The weather has changed since I was a boy. We call this new weather global warming.

The weather has changed and with it the time of migration of many birds, including seven bluebirds, the falling of leaves, the freezing over of rivers, streams and lakes, the blooming of wildflowers, hibernation and other activities of mammals, activities of amphibians, the swarming of insects, frogs and toads and turtles and other critters and most of all the activities of people with their machines and movements and life styles.

Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation has once again been honored

by Riley Hospital for Children.

Valley received the “Riley Corporation” designation by donating the equivalent of $1 per student in the corporation during the 2020-21 school year.

The announcement was on the agenda for the Monday, Nov. 15, TVSC board meeting at Mentone Elementary School.

This is the third year Valley has

achieved the designation, said TVSC Superintendent Blaine Conley.

At the meeting, the board accepted various donations and grants to help with school needs.

The donations and grants include: • A $1,685 donation from Core Mechanical Services Inc. for uniforms for the Tippecanoe Valley High School girls soccer team; • A $1,000 donation from Good Oil Co. related to school safety at the high school. The high school is considering using the money for flashlights and temporary lighting

4 steps to get back on the road after a tire warning light (BPT) - It’ll happen to every driver and likely at the most inopportune moment - like when you’re running late, on a family road trip or commuting to work. A familiar dashboard light will flick on in your car. Sometimes, the low tire pressure indicator can mean it’s time to add more air, caused by regular wear-and-tear or a sudden change in the weather.

But other times, the light leads drivers down a road that requires them to buy a new set of tires. So how do you know?

Hankook Tire offers four things to consider when the tire light turns on to help determine the next steps to get you back on your way: 1. Kick the tires Seventy-eight percent of drivers say that checking their tires is a regular part of their maintenance routine, according to Hankook’s latest Gauge Index survey.

If it’s been awhile since the last time you checked your tire pressure, the light could just be indicating that it’s time to add air.

Luckily, 86% of drivers consider themselves confident in put-

ting air in their tires in a proper manner with the right amount of pressure. If you aren’t in that majority, look for a tire dealer that offers a free air check, and refer to the panel of your driver’s side door, or your owner’s manual, for your vehicle’s ideal pressure reading.

2. Don’t pause after pressure Tire pressure checks can be an opportune time to examine the overall health of your tires, so don’t stop inspecting just because your pressure is perfect. Look at your tread, too. An easy way to check the tread is to insert a penny upside down into the groove of your tire. If Lincoln’s head is fully visible, it’s time to drive to the dealer to buy new tires. Many drivers need to purchase a set of tires at some point; one-in-four has had to purchase new tires more than four times.

3. Know what you’re looking for If your pressure light eventually leads you toward a point of sale, there’s plenty to consider, like where to make the purchase,

and what is most important for your vehicle, and your wallet. The survey found that when deciding where to go to buy their tires, consumers most consider price (45%), where they can get their preferred brand (20%), and the tire dealer’s product knowledge (14%). And once they find a dealer they like, most Americans (78%) will return to the same location when they must make another purchase in the future.

4. Talk it out Once you’re at the dealer, knowing which tires to buy can be an overwhelming choice. Over a third of drivers (35%) do their own research on brands and where to get the best deal. But the tire dealer and its repair team can also be a great resource - in fact, a quarter of Americans base their decision on the recommendation of a mechanic. Regardless of who influences your decision, communicate your priorities: whether that’s getting the best price, ensuring that your tires have a top safety rating or that they’re the right tires for your driving habits.
