Though she grew up in Rochester, Christine also lived in New York City, where she was first exposed to the charms of public art. “A
The recognition puts Rochester on the “map” of Indiana arts and culture, and provides visitors with one more reason to spend time and money in the downtown area, helping focus attention on other arts attractions like Native Nook, Elemental Art Studio and Times Theater, where one of Full Tilt’s first public murals can be found. This was all part of the plan when Full Tilt Arts was formed in 2019 by Christine Walsh, her husband, Brian Walsh, and Erica Coffing. Nevertheless, when Christine received an email with news of the announcement, she admitted, “It came as a surprise to me.”

“I believe art can be defined as pieces of reality and imagination put together as one,” stated Alexie Galbraith, Peru. “To me, the whole world is a new painting waiting to be colored in a unique way. What I draw or put on canvas is also a reflection of what’s inside of me. Whether I’m painting or drawing, creating artwork is a way of expressing myself to those around me.” Galbraith became interested in art at an early age. “When I was 7 and in an elementary school art class, my teacher told me I had great promise. I began taking every art class available. When I got to high school, since art was not a mandatory class, I took it as an elective.” She calls herself a self-taught artist. “I didn’t go to art school. Instead, I started experimenting on my own, finding out what I could do and what I was good at.”Her emotions play a big part in her abstract artwork. “If I’m having a good day or a bad day, I allow it to come out in my abstract art. People can identify with feelings. And it’s very therapeutic to me.” However, when she’s doing a commissioned piece, she’s very careful about allowing any negative emotions to come through. “For example, I was given a picture of a pet that had passed. The family wanted a portrait of the dog as a remembrance. My job then is to bring the subject to life. I’ll look at the picture of the dog staring at the camera and use my positive emotions to bring the animal alive. I may alter the picture and place the dog on a lawn playing with a ball.” Galbraith calls herself a freelance artist. “I’ll try anything and everything. It’s fun to tie my abstract paintings to representations of the planets, stars and galaxy colors. I do a mixed medium of work. I enjoy creating oil paintings and watercolors, acrylics and Prismacolor sketching.”

“Since May, my artwork has been featured at the Native Nook in Rochester. I have some watercolor and acrylic paintings on display there as well as a few Prismacolor sketches and a multimedia piece.” She also painted the sign for Putman Bail Bonds in Rochester. “Jessica Shafer sent me the design, but I helped it come to life.” Galbraith believes there is no wrong way to do an art piece.
Living in Rochester in the past has given her open doors in Fulton County for her artwork.

“Every artist has to have the drive and compassion to create. When I speak of compassion, I’m talking about having an appreciation of the beauty of life and also about listening to what those who commission us want in a piece. We need to hear people’s stories and give them a project that lives on in their hearts.”Artis more than visual. “I love all forms of expression. I play the flute, sing and dance. I’ve also written some songs I hope will be released in the future.” Having a special affection for children, Galbraith would love to teach an art class at the library or other gathering places for young people. “Perhaps jewelry making. Every young person loves to create unique items. I love being part of their lives.” Her contact information is lexi.gal46@gmail.com. the eight ball? 8

Full Tilt also invited community members to paint their own “squares,” in which they could paint “something that was special to them. … I thought others would want to share in this experience,” saidFullChristine.Tiltisin the planning stages for “a couple of projects,” for which Christine will add sculpture to the repertoire and include high school students. Coffing, who was on an artistic journey of her own, was also inspired by the experience. “When Christine invited me to be a part of Full Tilt Arts and we started the jungle mural together, I realized that public art is one of the most powerful ways to bring people together in a community. “I believe public art projects make a huge impact in how people view their hometown. They breathe fresh life into spaces and invite people to explore. They also deepen our sense of community identity and camaraderie.”Fortheir next project, a two-part homage to the Potawatomi tribe who lived in the area before their expulsion, the infamous “trail of death,” Christine received the “blessing” from citizens of the Potawatomi Nation. This was particularly important in her use of Potawatomi beadwork.Thefirst mural, at Primos Bar & Grill, depicts the tribe’s removal to Kansas, and the second, behind Webb’s Pharmacy, illustrates native plants used as medicine.

Christine’s first local public art experience came in a collaboration with Rochester area elementary school students, all of whom drew flowers, which were hung at Eighth and Main streets. “The project was a big hit,” she recalled, and she was inspired to start Full Tilt. Full Tilt’s first project was a jungle mural in the alley next to Times Theater and Native Nook. “That was our testing ground,” said Christine, “When that went well we decided to continue.”

Dear Editor: I wanted to quickly share my response to the FDA’s decision regarding the over-the-counter sale of hearing aids. For context, hearing aids have long been expensive and vastly under-covered by insurance. In that respect, I am glad there will be more solutions for mild to moderate hearing loss at prices within the means of everyday Americans. We here at Affordable Hearing of Rochester have been offering more affordable options for almost four years now. But I cannot stress enough that you should not just purchase devices and slap them on (yourself or a loved one) without seeking out a hearing care professional. Hearing is a three-dimensional sense. It’s not just raising the volume. You have a whole spectrum of pitch and auditory decibel performance. A properly fit medical device accounts for all these variables, and a hearing health care professional ensures that your technology is married to your ever-changing loss across the spectrum. Hearing aids break. Hearing aids get gross. Hearing aids scream at you. The type of mold or dome you wear will greatly affect the performance of the device. Hearing aids require a great deal of attention — and not all technology is created equal for the way you live your life.So yes, OTC hearing technology will be available — and this is a huge step toward addressing a very large issue in America. To make the best decisions for yourselves or loved ones — make sure you are consulting professionals about what the best options will be for you or them as an individual. There’s a lot to unpack with hearing technology — and its impact on the brain and daily life is extraordinary.Chuck Smith, HCP Owner, Affordable Hearing of Rochester

Visitors are provided with buckets, shears and wraps and can walk around amongst the blooms, taking pictures and building bouquets. “Each is unique and individual like a treasure hunt,” DeAnn remarked. Megan and DeAnn are both accomplished arrangers, or you can do your own. “It’s full service.”Itis reasonably priced as well, with basic prices of $10$15 per bouquet in a paper wrap, or $15-$20 in a vase. They also offer pre-picked arrangements; simply call up and order for pickup any day throughout the“Weweek.want it to be an experience for customers, family, friends, church groups, parties and more,” Megan added. To that end, the ladies have added other touches; for example, cotton candy and snow cones are available. “We wanted them ourselves,” DeAnn confessed.Meanwhile, other vendors offer a variety of items such as jewelry, artisanal soaps, hot sauce, local popcorn and the same sweet corn the farm has been growing for decades.
Megan emphasized the role played by family and friends in Zellers’ success. “We couldn’t do this without our amazing family and friends who volunteer their time and talents every Saturday to help better the experience for our customers.” Zellers is also gearing up for fall, when they will offer pumpkins, Indian corn, popcorn, straw bales and mums, which DeAnn started in a greenhouse more than three months ago.
A couple years ago, DeAnn Zellers Fetzer called her good friend, Megan Grube, to tell her about a “crazy idea” she had for a u-pick flower farm on her family’s farm outside of Rochester. Grube’s reaction was not what she expected. “I fully encouraged it,” Megan recalled, and although she lives in Fort Wayne, she started regularly driving to the farm to help out. After that, the duo’s idea picked up momentum. “We didn’t intend it to get as big as it did so quickly.” Their simple, u-pick flower farm developed into a farmer’s market as family and friends joined in to sell vegetables and arts and crafts. “Our five-year plan turned into a one-year plan,” DeAnn remarked. Zellers Beautiful Blooms is already a “destination.”Indeed, the sight of Zellers’ 89 varieties of wildflowers and a dozen different sunflowers is in itself worth the drive. And currently the butterflies are at their peak, creating a magical experience.

From the City Project Room — Storm water system project postponed Today I wish to update our efforts for project No. 5 on our white board, which is the revamp of Main Street storm water system from Ninth Street all the way north including paving.Wehave engineered, estimated and put out for construction bid and timetable this project with the hopes we would start construction in the fall.Bids have come back. I am sorry to report that current costs have been staggering. Basically, the project has doubled in cost since receiving the Indiana Department of Transportation grant of a million dollars to help with the project. There is no doubt that with inflationary costs of material and labor we can say we are experiencing a recession. I have never in over 30 years of business been comfortable with starting a project that could not be paid for on the day we started. I vowed from day one to run the city of Rochester like a business and it is just not a sound business decision to start this project with current costs of labor and materials double what we can afford. The decision has been made to postpone and review this project in a year in hopes we see some reduction in the inflationary costs of today. We have informed all involved including the INDOT grant folks of this decision. We are not giving up on this project; we are just not going to spend above our means.

4. Create an economic environment that allows for workforce attraction and economic growth in Fulton County. This means working to simplify processes and ensuring infrastructure, transportation corridors and construction-ready sites for business retention, expansion and attraction. It also means assessing opportunities for enhancing quality of place across Fulton County and coordinating with educational and workforce partners for the attraction and retention of talent.
The extra high-visibility enforcement is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through grants administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Alcohol-impairedInstitute.traffic fatalities have increased over the past few years, as have other dangerous driving behaviors, fueling a nationwide surge in roadway deaths. It’s an unfortunate trend that doesn’t appear to be slowing. Newly released data from NHTSA shows that an estimated 9,560 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the first quarter of 2022. That’s up 7% from the previous year and the highest number of deaths in 20 years for that period. In Indiana, traffic fatalities increased by more than 20% during that time compared to 2021. If the pace continues, 2022 could be the third straight year with more fatalities, following 897 in 2020 and 931 in 2021.
“The community told us they wanted a growing, vibrant and collaborative community that works together both politically and geographically. They wanted FEDCO to communicate the work they are doing and include key stakeholders in important processes,” said Interim Director Tiffany Futrell. “We are very thankful for everyone’s input that led to the development of our bold new vision and priorities.”That bold vision includes investing in people, quality of place strategies and partnerships that create an economic environment conducive to the attraction of talent and resources that support business retention and recruitment.
5. Ensure market-rate housing for all persons who choose to make Fulton County their home. This includes collaborating with government entities and other partners to conduct a comprehensive housing study for Fulton County, pursuing relevant options to meet the housing needs and capacity for this community while also planning for future needs. From these priorities, the board drafted an internal strategic investment plan for ensuring operational goals have accountabilities and measurable results. The board will finalize that process in the near future. Also, the organization will be making a report on the organizational assessment and planning process available to the public by September.“Iwant to thank our stakeholders, community partners and elected leaders for providing their insights that led us to a new vision for Fulton County’s economic prosperity. I especially want to thank the board and staff for their diligence and willingness to engage in this deep dive into the organization, so we could ensure we have a viable plan for future impact and sustainability,” said FEDCO Board President David Heyde.
“People who drive drunk or high aren’t thinking about the repercussions,” said Devon McDonald, ICJI executive director. “It’s not just their life they’re risking, but the life of the person in the car next to them and the pedestrian crossing the street. No one ‘accidentally’ drives impaired. It’s always a choice.”

1. Create a strong organization structured and staffed for attaining operational goals. This means diversifying the board to represent key stakeholders; hiring a strong CEO to guide the organization in carrying out its vision; and ensuring all staff have the necessary skills, knowledge, passion and drive to carry out goals. The board and staff will adhere to accountability timelines, the highest levels of integrity and the organization’s mission.
3. Create a marketing and communications plan that targets messages to community stakeholders, elected officials, partners and specific attraction/retention markets. This means utilizing all types of relevant media for the targeted audiences in a comprehensive communications plan for both external and internal communication. Consistent branding and messaging will be a high priority in reporting impact to stakeholders.
FEDCO re-imagines Fulton County’s economic future
State police gear up new patrols through Labor Day “Drive sober or get pulled over.” That is the warning coming from the Indiana State Police as it gears up to participate in an end-of-summer impaired driving enforcement campaign. Now through Labor Day, officers will be increasing patrols designed to target those driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Also, “70% of (those who take the courses) are less likely to have remedial classes in college,” said Kresca. He also noted only one of five Indiana high schools offers the Indiana College Core. Kresca emphasized that taking the courses would help students save money on college. As for the cost for Valley students taking the classes, those on free or reduced lunch don’t have to pay anything for them aside from textbook fees. For other students, tuition for some courses is free, and the rest ranges from $75 to $125 per class. Textbook costs range from $14.47 to Courses$79.25. include Introductory Biology; Survey of American History; Spanish Level I and II; Spanish Level III and IV; AP Language; Reading, Writing & Inquiry; Public Speaking; Pre-Calculus & Trigonometry; Analytic Geometry & Calculus; and Quantitative Reasoning.Students able to take the courses are current juniors or the Class of 2024 and those following after them. Kids would take the classes in their sophomore through senior years of high school, depending on theKrescacourse.said the high school offered information to parents on the Indiana College Core classes at its open house recently. Parents interested in registering their child for the classes should contact Kresca or their child’s guidance counselor.

Valley to offer Indiana College Core classes
Tippecanoe Valley High School students now have another way to get a head start on college before they’ve graduated high school. At its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 15, at Mentone Elementary School, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board heard about TVHS’ new Indiana College Core classes from TVHS Principal Brandon Kresca, who is credited with spearheading the move. “(It’s) just really been something we’ve been after for quite some time, but really had a goal to try to accomplish this for this school year and to have this available for our students and our families,” he Studentssaid.who take the courses will get both high school and college credit. The goal is to have 30 college credits completed by the end of high school, so they can enter college at a sophomore level. Valley students could obviously take college courses while they were in high school before, but Valley’s move to Indiana College Core means many of its own teachers have taken extra training to lead the classes. Thus students won’t have to leave TVHS to take any of them.“(It’s) the opportunity to take the college level classes in high school with high school teachers who are certified and credentialed college faculty members,” said Kresca. He also cited a statistic that “94% of high school students who earn the Indiana College Core went on to attend college.” That includes typical four-year colleges as well as community colleges and trade schools.

Shopping Guide News of Fulton County, Wednesday, August 24, 2022 17WWW.SHOPPINGGUIDENEWS.COM
1. Prioritize Belongings. Start by considering what needs to go, what can stay and how much storage space you have available. Make it a family project by working with your kids to identify which items they love most and which things they could do without. Once you know what will be kept, prioritize space accordingly, keeping beloved items easily accessible.
• Pate canned kitten/cat food.
A great way to ensure your hard work doesn’t go to waste is to label the bins or baskets. Labels make things easy to find when you need them and keep items organized when cleaning up. Creating labels with colorful Duck Tape is a kidfriendly DIY project that can help your kids feel in charge of the process.
Tips to keep kids’ rooms clean and organized
Fulton County Animal Center seeks donations
2. Organize the Stuff. Find everything a home. Bins and baskets are ideal for small toys and games with tiny pieces, while drawers and shelves are perfect for larger items. For excess items, especially young children’s toys, use clear bins to store them in closets or under beds. Not only does this help tidy the room, but it can also make old things appear new again when they are pulled out of storage.
Fulton County Animal Center recently lost both its refrigerators, leading to the loss of roughly $1,500 worth of cat and dog vaccinations and medications. The center is hoping to purchase two new refrigerators for use in the years to come. To meet this need, FCAC is asking for donations, which can be made via PayPal by visiting St.,beterindiana,book.com/fultoncountyanimalcen-face-orbycheck,whichcanmailedtoFCAC,1540WentzelRochester,IN46975.
3. Create Labels. Getting belongings organized is one thing, but keeping them that way is another.
5. Personalize with Decor. Once the room is clean and organized, take some time to add personal touches. Allowing children to pick colors and patterns for their room can really make them feel like it is their own. If you have the space, a table or a lamp can be a fun addition. If you want to keep things simple, showcasing photos of family and friends or displaying kids’ artwork can do the trick, too.

FCAC has a donation bin located in the entry/exit lobby of the Kroger store in Rochester. You can place any items for FCAC from anywhere, or you can stop by FCAC anytime staff is present during daytime hours to drop off items.
For a complete list of items, including preferred brands and online wish lists, visit the Facebook page listed above.
The fundraising goal is $2,500 for two fridges and to replace supplies. In the meantime, if anyone has a gently used standard size fridge to donate, FCAC can use it as a backup and also to use until funds can be raised for new ones.
4. File Away Papers For older kids, schoolwork should be separated from games and toys, which can be difficult when learning from home and space is limited. Important assignments and documents should be put in folders and binders to prevent them from getting lost and help keep the room looking neat.
Organizing school supplies and at-home desks doesn’t have to be a boring task. Customize folders for each kid or each subject with unique designs using printed Duck Tape brand duct tape, or make labels with Duck brand chalkboard tape.
• Dry adult cat food (Iams or Purina One)
For the past year, many of us have lived, played, worked and gone to school right at home, making clutter inevitable –especially when it comes to kids’ bedrooms and playrooms. No matter how many times parents tell their children to clean their rooms, the collection of clothes, schoolwork and toys seems to build endlessly. Take charge of the mess with these tips to create a space that’s fun and functional for kids of all ages.
• Dry kitten food (Iams purple bag or Purina One kitten)
• Hand and bath towels in good used condition (these get used for dog baths and as pen bedding for intake kitty cages.)

For those who believe in Jesus Christ, the future means “all things new” (Revelation 21:5); but for those who reject him, it means the same old sins for all eternity (Revelation 21:8, 27; 22:11, 15). The Apostle John envisioned a new heaven in which the Lord will wipe away every tear of those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ. Their new home will be his heavenly kingdom.

“Afterward another went, and yet another. By that time I had so many acquaintances and children in heaven that I no more thought of it as a city merely with streets of gold but as a place full of inhabitants.“Now there are so many loved ones there I sometimes think I know more people in heaven than I do on earth.”
Read Ron Purkey’s Bible study outlines at rcpbibleoutlines.com free on the website. Purkey has been an ordained Baptist minister for 50 years.
As God’s faithful children, we will enjoy all the blessings of heaven — an inheritance the Lord has promised to everyone who has placed their faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.Have you made your peace with God? Today is the day of salvation. You might not have a “tomorrow.”
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) The eternal city of God (heaven) is compared to a beautiful bride (Revelation 21:9), because it is the eternal home for God’s beloved people. God’s statements recorded in Revelation 21:5-6 aptly summarize the final two chapters of the Bible: “Behold, I make all things new. ... It is done.” We call this “heaven.” First, there will be a new heaven. (Revelation 21:1) Second, there will be a new earth. (Revelation 21:1) Third, there will be a new Jerusalem. (Revelation 21:2) Fourth, God will be there. (RevelationFifth,21:3)God’s people will be there. (Revelation 21:3) Sixth, God’s promises will be there. (Revelation 21:4) Seventh, God’s power will be there. (Revelation 21:5) Eighth, God’s speaker will be revealed. (Revelation 21:6) Ninth, God’s supply will be given. (Revelation 21:6) Tenth, God’s requirements will be disclosed. (Revelation 21:7) Eleventh, God’s children will be rewarded. (Revelation 21:7) Twelfth, God’s enemies will be missing. (Revelation 21:8-9) What will heaven be like? An unknown author once said, “As a boy, I thought of heaven as a city with domes, spires and beautiful streets, inhabited by angels. By and by my little brother died, and I thought of heaven much as before, but with one inhabitant that I knew. “Then another died, and then some of my acquaintances, so in time I began to think of heaven as containing several people that I knew. But it was not until one of my own little children died that I began to think I had treasure in heaven myself.

Area Five Head Start preschool is participating in a community service project. They will be collecting pop tabs to donate to the Pop Tab Program for Ronald McDonald House Charity. The tabs will be turned in and recycled. The money generated from recycling the tabs is used in a general budget to ensure the Ronald McDonald House remains open for families of sick or injured kids. Although the price of aluminum changes on a regular basis, on average the Ronald McDonald House receives 40 to 60 cents per pound of aluminum tabs. They will be collecting tabs from August until May. You may drop off any collected tabs to Area Five Head Start preschool, 515 E. 9th St., Rochester. grantGivingWomen’sCircleapplication
