Amid a nationwide shortage of police recruits, The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, polled 39 Eastern Iowan law enforcement agencies to find out how many had at least one officer who spoke Spanish. Only 12 did, and several of those who responded only had a single bilingual officer.
