Dear Members and Community,

As I reflect on the past year, I am honored to share that I have completed my second year as Executive Director of the Middlebury Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center. It has been a privilege to serve our members, businesses, and community, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to help strengthen the connections that make Middlebury such an extraordinary place. Our local businesses are the heart of our community, and it is an honor to serve as a bridge between our Chamber, our members, and the people who call Middlebury home. ABOUT MIDDLEBURY Geography & History Middlebury is a quiet and charming small town that sits on the banks of the Little Elkhart River in the middle of a mix of rolling hills and rural farmland. Here you will find a plethora of locally-owned stores that have been in the same families for generations along with picture-perfect Queen Anne and Gothic Revival homes.

Later, in 1841, the first Amish families came from Somerset County, Pa., and settled in the countryside The Spruce House

Today Middlebury is a town of 3,721 located in Elkhart County approximately 35 miles east of South Bend, 130 miles east of Chicago and 165 miles north of Indianapolis. ABOUT MIDDLEBURY

Before the Europeans came to the region, the Miami and later the Potawatomi ruled the area. That changed in 1832, when the first settlers came from Middlebury, Vt. They chose this specific area because the rolling hills reminded them of Vermont.

surrounding the town. The Town of Middlebury was chartered in 1834, and was finally incorporated in 1868. In 1888, the railroad came to Middlebury and began to diversify the town’s economy to include manufacturing as well as farming.

EDUCATION Middlebury offers two private preschools and a full-service, year-round Boys & Girls Club, alongside the community school district which serves three townships in northeastern Elkhart County, covering 100 square miles. The landscape ranges from hilly to gently rolling to flat plains, including woods, rivers, and a couple of small lakes. Quality housing developments and a thriving manufacturing economy have been major factors in the steady growth of the Middlebury school system over the past decades. MCS thrives in a progressive, yet conservative environment. The influence of the large Amish and Mennonite settlement in the area makes MCS attractive to those seeking to raise a family in a place where traditional values and a sense of community remain very strong. Even though this small community is out of the fast track, it is still conveniently close to major highways, railways, and airports, where residents can have access to nearby urban centers of culture, entertainment, and higher education. 14

In terms of academics, we have exceptional teaching and learning taking place in all of our classrooms every day. Our Academic, Co-Curricular, and Athletic programs are some of the best in the state of Indiana. Our students spend enormous amounts of hours working in sports, music, science and math to compete with honors across the state. For a school district of our size, we have formidable students when it comes to competition. Because of our staff, programs, students, parents, school community and facilities, our schools draw over 400 students from surrounding school districts. For academic success, we offer AP, ACP and Dual Credit Courses. We have a cohort of Early College students who will have enough college credits to receive an Associates Degree along with their high school diplomas. We have over 100 Career Center students who are also receiving certifications in the fields of welding, graphic design, computer technicians and CNA’s. We are changing the way we deliver an education that has to prepare students for future jobs that have not yet been created. 2025-26 Recap – Northridge High School Athletics Over half of the students at Northridge High School played a sport or were involved in an athletic event at some point in the school year. Fifty percent of our student-athletes achieved a 3.8 GPA or higher during their competition season. NHS continues to feature one of the most successful athletic programs in northern Indiana, with many teams competing well among some of the best teams in the state. The school year began with a couple of notable upgrades to our on-campus athletic facilities. The soccer complex, which will be known as the Teledata Soccer Complex moving forward, had its grass game field replaced by artificial turf that features lines for soccer and lacrosse, with large netting at each end of the field, two new permanent team dugout structures, a new PA system, new LED field lights, and a new ticket booth at the entrance. The complex was the host site of the Class 3A Boys Soccer Sectional tournament that Northridge participated in. The Elevation Park Model Tennis Courts were completely replaced, additional court lighting was installed, and a new second-story observation tower was built in the center-most location among the courts. These will be useful new features to those facilities for years to come, and we are grateful to have them for our students and coaches! (574) 825-4300 | middleburyINchamber.com

EDUCATION The recently completed 2025-2026 school year featured some monumental achievements by our teams, athletes, and coaches. Our Raider teams are very visible in the community, volunteering in a variety of ways. If someone needs helping hands (and strong muscles!), contact the Northridge High School Athletic Department with requests. We will do our best to give you our time. Our coaches commit endless hours pursuing the highest possible amount of success. We always have a few new faces each season, but overall, a majority of our coaches have spent several years, if not many more, pouring themselves into our student-athletes. We are so thankful for our coaches and their families who make huge sacrifices to do what they do. The Boys Cross Country team dominated the NLC, winning each round robin and the NLC championship. They also earned two midseason invitational titles. This season was capped with a remarkable 5th-place finish in the state meet! Raider senior Baylor Miller left NHS as the sport’s recordholder for fastest time and placed 11th at this year’s state meet with multiple meet titles along the way. The girls cross country squad finished 3rd in the sectional to qualify for Regionals. Raider senior Dakotah Moore, unfortunately, could not overcome an injury in her quest to run in her fourth straight state finals race. She departs NHS as the cross country record-holder. Brayleigh Adams appeared in the state finals for Northridge in her freshman season. The Girls Soccer team shut out all seven conference opponents on the way to its third straight NLC title. Northridge also claimed the sectional championship for the second time in three years. Lily Vasil, the Raiders’ senior goalkeeper allowed only 5 goals in 18 games with a 17-0-1 NLC record. Playing a very challenging schedule with a very young roster, Boys Soccer again had another very competitive year. They were ranked in the top 20 for multiple weeks, and all losses came to top 20 teams. Raider senior Julius Esquivias earned first-team all-state honors, only the sixth in program history to do so. NHS junior John Michel was the district’s top team player. Girls Volleyball improved their 2024 win total by three during the 2025 season under first-year coach Jodie Steele, securing the West Noble Invitational title. Raider senior Izzy Melvin achieved a career milestone of 1,000 assists late in the season. We thank Cheerleading for their role in creating school spirit. The whole team did push-ups for every point scored during each Football Middlebury Chamber of Commerce

game. It was a great group effort that engaged the crowd who counted each push-up aloud. Girls Golf won its third straight NLC title, repeated as Sectional champions, and qualified for the State Finals - placing 7th, the best in school history. Raider senior Alex Reschly finished first at Sectionals and 10th at state. Boys Tennis had a notable turnaround season, improving from 4 wins to 13. Their top win was against Valparaiso in the Northridge Invitational. Raider junior Seth Lomas won the first singles title in the NLC tournament for the second straight year, compiling an impressive 22-1 record in 2025. Football played a tough schedule and battled well in every game but came away with only three wins. In their postseason loss, the Raiders fell by only a touchdown to the eventual regional champion, St. Joseph, on their home field. The Cheerleading squad had a long season. When all was said and done, they were practicing and showing up at games for a span of five months. It’s a lot. Their presence was felt and is always appreciated. The Northridge Girls Basketball team is a model program in northern Indiana. At a time when basketball rosters are slim at many other schools, the Raiders have a healthy program from youth through Varsity. The Varsity team had a tough loss at Warsaw in the deciding conference championship game but earned revenge by defeating Warsaw, the state runner-up from a season ago, in the sectional championship a month later and followed it with a regional championship against state-ranked Valparaiso. Raider junior Lily Scholl had one of the best individual seasons in Northridge history, surpassing 1,000 career points and leading the Raiders with a school single-game record 42 points in the sectional title contest. The Raiders were well-recognized for their fourth straight 20-win season. Scholl, who is a junior Indiana All-Star, seniors Cam Conley and Macey Riegsecker, plus classmates Zoe Yeater and Alli Ambers, each earned All-NLC. The Raider Boys Wrestling team, fresh off a regional title last season, faced a tough schedule with a small roster and saw some notable growth under first-year coach Mike Price. Adley Yoder was the conference and sectional champion for Northridge. In its second season as an NHS and IHSAA sport, sophomore Lily Lovely was a regional qualifier in Girls Wrestling. Boys Swimming and Diving was 11 athletes strong under first-year coach Rhonda Blanchard. A major accomplishment came from Caleb Kreuter who earned a sectional title in Diving and became part of an exclusive group of Indiana athletes by competing in the State Finals as a swimmer and a diver. The 15

EDUCATION Girls Swimming and Diving team captured the conference championship with a 7-0 dual record and the championship meet title in its home pool last winter and advanced several athletes to the State Finals, including sectional champions Audrina Eads and Bella Estep. The boys basketball team had a historic season, the best in school history. They claimed NLC, Sectional, and Regional championships this past winter. The Regional title was the first ever in the sport for Northridge. Their 26 wins were a program best. Outgoing senior Brady Scholl capped a tremendous career for the Raiders, finishing third all-time in NHS history in points scored. He earned a prestigious selection to the Indiana All-Star team, only the second-ever Northridge player to do so. Scott Radeker, finishing his 25th straight year as a high school basketball coach in Indiana, earned the NLC and District Coach of the Year selections. The JV Raiders finished the year undefeated at 21-0, and the freshman team earned 18 wins. Raider Softball tallied 13 wins and finished second in the conference standings for the second straight year. NHS senior Rachel Humbarger

earned a spot on the North roster for the Indiana All-Star game. The Baseball team had a tough season against great competition, finishing with 12 wins. They had a nice late-season stretch of 9 wins in 10 games, including 6 victories against NLC foes in 7 games. The Northridge track and field squads had major success in 2026. The boys team was the NLC runner-up, Sectional runner-up, and Regional Champions. They finished 16th as a team at the State Finals, the second-highest placement in program history. Baylor Miller exits Northridge holding five total school records and was ranked 10th nationally among high school athletes in the 800-meter run. Jaden Fisher owns the school’s 400-dash record and placed 8th in the State Finals. The school records in the 4x400 relay, 4x800 relay, and shot put (Max Lamb) were also broken this season. Xavier Miller ran in 3 events at state, placing 11th in the 800 run. The girls 4x800 relay team had a strong postseason, with championships at the NLC, Sectional, and Regional meets. Dakotah Moore won those same championships in the 3,200 run and ended her career with a 9th-place finish at state. Alli Steele

EDUCATION was the NLC champion and school-record holder in high jump. The Girls Tennis team earned a hard-fought NLC championship after an undefeated regular season and won its third straight Sectional championship before ending the season as regional runner-up and 16 wins in 22 matches. Elaine Duthie was the NLC first singles champion and a member of the Indiana All-Star North team. Boys Golf captured a Sectional Championship on their home course. In their second season as an official Indiana High School Athletic Association-sanctioned sport, Boys Volleyball won a Sectional match for the fourth straight year, and tallied 14 wins. The Raiders played Sectionals on their home court, becoming the first Northridge sport to do so in the beautiful competition gymnasium, Jayco Arena at NHS, completed in 2024. Northridge added one new sports team to its offering in the spring of 2026, Unified Track and Field. The sport features co-ed/inclusive team for all athletes of all abilities that focuses on teamwork, at-

titude, and school pride, creating a more inclusive school community where everyone can participate. This group of athletes competed in 3 invitationals. We look forward to their future opportunities and growing this part of our school. Our girls sports team combined to win the Northern Lakes Conference trophy based on their collective placements this school year! This is the second title for the Raider girls in this category in the past 3 years and 17th overall since 1997. Thank you for your support of Raider Athletics!

BUSINESS & INDUSTRY To date, Middlebury’s economy has been largely based on farming and manufacturing. Located within minutes of the I-80/I-90 turnpike connection, Middlebury is an ideal location for any distribution route.

INTERESTING FACTS ECONOMY Middlebury’s economy is based on farming, manufacturing, and tourism.

A comprehensive plan for economic development was released in 2020, which took into account infrastructure needs, land use planning and downtown redevelopment while balancing the needs of the large Amish population with that of the broader community.

INDUSTRY This small town with only 3,721 residents grows to 12,000 to 15,000 people daily through RV manufacturing, schools, and other industries. It has been said, “When it comes to business, this small town can out manufacture cities twice its size.”

While maintaining a strong and vibrant manufacturing sector, Middlebury is expanding its public-private partnerships in order to recruit and support three areas of focus: sustainable agriculture and food production, alternative sources of energy and advanced manufacturing automation. In 2021, the Chamber was awarded a United States Department of Agriculture Grant to incubate rural businesses. The grant provided for the creation of the Middlebury Makers Rural Business Incubator. The effort for a rural business incubator is born out of the need for a unique, specialized, and supportive physical environment and structural and technical assistance to encourage and grow small businesses in the rural context. Five start-up businesses completed the program; three are now opening their small businesses in the Town of Middlebury. Let the Chamber support your vision of being a business owner. The Chamber has affordable space, co-working areas, business 101 workshops, and private business counseling. Also, free access to WIFI, meeting room, shared office equipment, copier, printer, and projector. Contact the Chamber to discuss your business start-up possibilities. Sheri Howland at director@middleburyinchamber. com or 574-825-4300. 2026 marks ten years since the launch of the Vibrant Communities Action Agenda for Elkhart County – a development of the Community Foundation of Elkhart County and the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Vibrant Communities initiative is an opportunity to strengthen Elkhart County’s great communities. Together, citizens continue efforts to implement community Vibrant Communities Action Agenda items to ensure everyone has a great place to live, work and raise a family.

PARKS & TRAILS Great trails and beautiful parks are the gems you will find in Middlebury. From elaborate and carefully manicured gardens to playgrounds and natural settings, our parks have it all. And our growing trail system connects us with neighboring towns and cities. Krider World’s Fair Garden This garden just celebrated 91 years and consists of several individual gardens including the Quilt Garden, the Memorial Garden, and the Rose Garden. There are ponds, a waterfall, two pavilions, pathways, and a glider for relaxing amidst the scenery. The park is a tribute to the Krider Nursery which was the town’s largest business for nearly a century, gaining fame with its patented thornless roses. In 1933 the company provided an elaborate garden for the Chicago’s Century of Progress exhibition, and several of the features of that garden were brought back to Middlebury, including the Dutch windmill and the Giant Toadstools.

dren stay active in the great outdoors, and employees commute to their factories and businesses. Birdwatchers search for wildlife and families take leisurely trips to local parks and ice cream shops. The final section of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail between county roads 20 and 35 in Middlebury is now open to the public. Walkers, runners and cyclists can now travel easily between Goshen, Middlebury and Shipshewana without leaving the trail safe. The vision, decades in the making, Is finally complete. It is not easy to fully express gratitude for the decades of dedication and resources offered by so many organizations and individuals. Together, we have created something exceptional. *Names and locations of all the parks and trails may be found on the Town Map on pages 30-31.

Riverbend Park & Olde Mill Park These parks, located on the banks of the Little Elkhart River, provide a natural setting, a playground, and a system of trails and boardwalks through the riparian landscape. From the Olde Mill trail you can admire the oldest building in Middlebury. In Riverbend there is a fishing platform (catch and release), a picnic pavilion, and the newest feature, Trail Tales, a series of stations, each containing pages of a book. As you walk the trail, you read the book. The stories are changed on a regular basis. Each August Riverfest takes place, a one-day celebration of all things related to the river and our environment. Riverbend is also the site of the Summer Fun program for children. The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail and Ridge Run Trails The Pumpkinvine Trail is a 17-mile multi-purpose rail-trail that connects Goshen, Middlebury, and Shipshewana. The Ridge Run Trail and the Wayne Street Trail connect to the Pumpkinvine, forming a 5K loop, as well as providing access to local businesses, parks, and schools. Bikers, hikers, and runners get a workout, chil24
