Master(ful) Closets
by Kelley Graber, interior designer, president of Kelley J. Interiors
Closets aren’t just for hanging clothing any more. I have found many people no longer use their dressers, thanks to the awesome closet systems out there. Today, we can keep everything— from socks to our jewelry in one spot: the master closet.

How? Today’s master closet sizes have increased. If you’re thinking, okay, but I live in an older home, here’s a thought: you can use space out of a nearby bedroom or den to create your dream closet. An upscale closet can be done at any budget. Consider hiring a closet or cabinet company to make a plan for customizing your space, or go to your local box store to create your own, right off the shelf.
The following are some customs items to consider when thinking to trick-out your closet:
• baskets • hooks • belt racks • velvet-lined jewelry drawers • drawer dividers • tie racks • velvet hangers • hampers • valet rack • display cabinets for shoes, boots, or hand bags
A Bright Idea
Consider adding special lighting for extra drama. A chandelier is always a good idea if you have the space. If not, recessed can lighting is a clean look. Be sure to add adequate lighting to ensure the space is bright.
Have fun, measure, plan, and create your dream closet.
