The Magical Meadows WYLWHYLZ MVY [O ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION %\ .(,7+ .1(33 6WDII :ULWHU Nearly 15 years ago, The Magical Meadows consisted of one horse, one rider and a vision. This October, The Meadows as it is affectionately referred to by those who run, volunteer and use the facility, will be completing its 14th year and will begin its 15th anniversary celebration. “Magical Meadows was created out of a love for horses and a belief that getting away from the noise and busyness of our everyday lives to connect with the natural world has the power to heal,” said Pastor and Executive Director Carl Adams, “We exist to provide a natural space for those with physical, mental or emotional challenges, along with their families, to experience the healing power of horses.” In 2007, founder Tammy Stackhouse was approached by the family of a young man with autism who rode her school bus asking if he could meet her horses. After researching the connection with horses and people with “different” abilities, she began the journey of what is now the Magical Meadows. It began on her personal property, not knowing where it was going to go, but believing the special needs community needed this opportunity. Now, The Meadows has 19 horses utilized by 150 riders from across northern Indiana. All of the school districts in Kosciusko County utilize
the facility for their special needs classes. Additionally, social services organizations, including the Bowen Center, Cardinal Services and Bashor Children’s Home, all have individuals who come to The Meadows. “Many of the riders who started here 14 years ago still come here,” noted Adams, who first visited The Meadows around a decade ago as a caretaker for two residents of Cardinal Services. “After seeing the difference that Magical Meadows’ services made, my passion ignited and I decided to become involved with the organization.” In its early stages, The Meadows was able to purchase 7 acres north of Warsaw with help from the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation. It was quickly realized that wasn’t enough property for what the nonprofit organization wanted to accomplish. In 2017, thanks in part to a matching grant provided by the K21 Foundation, The Meadows was able to add another 40 acres, which not only gave them more space for their programming but also allowed them to produce their own hay to help feed the horses. Along the way, numerous families, businesses and organizations have stood up to help support the mission of The Meadows, donating thousands of dollars and volunteer hours to help support its efforts.
