Breaking down walls, building community %\ 5$< %$/2*+ 6WDII :ULWHU One fledgling but promising trend in Kosciusko County is the collaboration of churches and businesses to help meet the needs of the community — at several levels. Some members of each realm, however, are resistant to the trend, each variously concerned about the sullying or dilution of their respective primary purposes. Enter C4One, a faith-based Indiana nonprofit “focused on community outreach that empowers leaders to strengthen their relationships and impact,” according to c4one.org. The organization, pursuant to its tagline of “living life on mission, transforming our community,” conducts various outreaches based on its four pillars described on the website. Intercede “God uniquely positions each of us: Prayer for fellow leaders to share their faith in their marketplace and community.” Equip “Equipping God’s people for his work: Development and hosting of biblicallybased leadership programming and resources.” Inspire “Our great

power is from God, not ourselves: Discipleship, encouragement and support to uncover the leader’s testimony and inspire them to share it in their marketplace.” Unite “Catalyst to reach unity in the Church: Transforming our community by seeing beyond the walls of our individual churches to the One.” C4One conducts monthly and annual meetings and conferences designed to educate and equip believers to practice their faith in the marketplace. One monthly group is for men, one is for women. The public is invited to all C4One events. Men Following Christ meets 8-10 a.m. the last Saturday of each month in the Alpha Dining Hall at Grace College, 1 Lancer Way, Winona Lake. The biblically based discussion group is open to men of all ages and is designed to “inspire with the message that we are all a work in progress, being made perfect through the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.” Meetings include speakers and testimonies. Women in the Workplace was founded by Julie Kline, who facilitates the luncheon meetings from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Monday of each month at The Hub, a community event venue, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake. Meals are provided by C4One. The outreach is “a gathering of working women to provide opportunities to unite in community and grow in their leadership while also finding balance in their lives,” which includes speakers and table discussion groups. A different area nonprofit is featured each month, and meetings may highlight a “pop-up shop” operated by a local busi-

nesswoman. “At the core of each discussion is the importance of living out our faith at work to live life on mission while transforming our community,” said Kline. PBJ Initiative is on hiatus for the summer and will resume in September. The Pastors, Business, and Jesus Initiative serves to “have an incredible impact in our communities by bringing together leaders of our churches and businesses. Too long have we kept the two apart.” Kline explained the wider, deeper purpose of the initiative. “Our goal is to break down the walls that separate us, put our heads and hearts together, and fix our eyes on Jesus, so we can spread the Gospel throughout our community. The message of Jesus is the only way we can truly transform lives.” This year’s annual two-day Global Leadership Summit, broadcast by video from Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Ill., will take place Thursday and Friday, Aug. 4-5. The local venue, one of hundreds throughout the world, will be Warsaw Community Church, 1855 S. County Farm Road, Warsaw. The conference will feature world renowned faculty members “who deliver a unique blend of vision, inspiration and practice leadership skills.” The conference fee is $139 per person.
