Finding a job or a different career takes time and patience and sometimes just a little bit of help. The Goodwill’s Center for Career Connections, located in Warsaw, can help with a job search, digital skills and other job-related classes. The career center staff can help build skills to become job ready with workshops, assistance with resume preparation, job placement with hiring events, or help transition someone into a new career. Goodwill’s Center for Career Connections helps people look for educational resources, whether you are looking to complete a high school equivalency or wanting to enroll in college or even change careers. The Center for Career Connections is more than just a career center and not an employment agency, said Brandon Allen, the career center’s manager. “Most people think that the career center is one of two things: we only hire folks for Goodwill, or we are an employment agency. While we do work with our retail store and work with local employment agencies, we try very hard to work with clients on building a path for personal success,” said Allen. He added, “We work with individuals that are in various situations and stages in their life, from those who are just entering the workforce to those who are returning to the workforce after years of separation. We also help those who are looking for a career change or wanting to advance in their current career path.” The career center has several programs in-house allowing a client to add proficiency to their resume. “We offer several certificates that clients can earn in digital skills. These certificates are a great addition to those who may not have a lot of transferable skills,” noted Allen. Goodwill has also partnered with Google and Facebook to add scholarship opportunities into its educational programs.

“These are specifically designed for folks who don’t have a college education and are wanting to build to their technical experience,” said Allen. A Google/Goodwill partnership offers two scholarship opportunities — Google IT Support and IT automation with Python professional certificates. Facebook has also partnered with Goodwill to offer a social media marketing certificate. “We also offer services to connect folks that have not earned their high school diploma with local adult education programs,” Allen said. The center offers several services for job hunters. “We offer career counseling services, educational support, and we help job seekers learn new skills to help build their resume credentials,” he said. WorkOne is located in the office to help people navigating the unemployment insurance aspect. Other services and connections can be made to fit the needs for individual clients. “In our Warsaw location, we have partnered with outside organizations, such as the Beaman Home, for folks who are in domestic abuse situations,” he said. “We are also looking to make new connections with outside organizations that work well with our mission.” He noted, “Right now, more than ever, families need child care, mental health services,” he said. “It is my hope that we can help folks make those connections.” All career center events are free and open to the public. The career center is adjacent to Goodwill Retail Store, 751 Anchorage Point Drive, Warsaw.
