FUN DISPLAY — Kendel Josey recently had her origami and paper quilling work on display at the Warsaw Community Public Library. The display included a large origami dragon consisting of 422 folded pieces of paper. Photo by Lauren Zeugner. By LAUREN ZEUGNER Associate Editor Anyone visiting the Warsaw Community Public Library during the month of May may have noticed the community display case featuring artwork done by Kendel Josey. Kendel, 14, from Leesburg, has been doing origami and paper quilling for several years. The display case featured a large lizard and an Asian dragon that featured hundreds of small pieces of paper folded into shape. Kendel said both pieces are considered “beginner” pieces when it comes to origami. Also in the case were examples of paper quilling, which involves taking small strips of paper and putting them together to create a picture. Kendel said she started with origami, and has sold some of her work at the Kids Business Expo held every year in North Webster. As a ninthgrader, Kendel is now too old to participate in the Expo, so the library display was the first time people got a chance to see her work in about a year. She received a quilling book in October and has just started experimenting with it. Kendel explained quilling takes more time and isn’t as transportable as origami. She usually has origami paper in her purse that she can fold into a small animal, flower or even a box when she’s feeling anxious.
