Kassy Klinefelter is a wife, a mother and leader of the For t Wayne Derby Girls. Many in the Derby World refer to her as “Unraveled KAOS.” Take a peek to learn how her charac ter has passionately benefited her teammates, her communit y and her own personal growth

I’ve heard For t Wayne Derby girls are tough on the outside but golden-hear ted on the inside.

“I absolutely agree 100 percent Derby is all about building people up in so many more ways than just the physical spor t… I am involved with my local Lions Club and PTO at my k id’s school. I also enjoy cook ing and ser ving free community meals at church. The impor tance of community this spor t has is inspiring…”

Roller Derby is an intense spor t. How do you maintain a strong mind and help encourage your fellow derby girls?

“ The mental game in derby is just as impor tant as the physical game… I tr y to read or watch small inspirational things daily and I enjoy sharing them with my team… and make a point to encourage and tell newer sk aters when I notice they ’re mastering new sk ills. I t ’s fun to be a par t of their journey and growth in the spor t and celebrate small vic tories with each of them.”

You were voted team captain of the BOMB squad. What does this mean to you and how do you continue to show your leadership?

“Being a team captain means the world to me! I t holds a big weight on my shoulders and in my hear t… I feel that all the good leaders I’ve ever looked up to inspired me by simply leading by example. So I tr y to do the same… There have been several times when my body is exhausted and telling me ‘don’t do it, ’ but my hear t and head tells the coaches ‘use me anywhere you feel the team needs me ’ I want to absorb and learn as much as I can from people who have been sk ating for longer than I have Then in turn pass it on down the line to incoming sk aters ”

What message or encouragement would you want to give to the young ladies in the For t Wayne community?

“Don’t ever be afraid to SPREAD YOUR WINGS, JUMP and FLY. Follow your passions and whatever makes your hear t happy. Be willing to tr y new things and step out of your comfor t zone as you never k now what might spark a new interest Strap on your helmet, make the best of ever y day, and enjoy this wild ride called life ” a
