T“hey always look better in photos.
You k now what I mean Brilliantly colored gumdrops in precisely lined rows. White icing in graceful, gentle drifts. M ini-candy canes evenly spaced as if placed with the per fec tion of God’s own hand That ’s how gingerbread houses always look, right?
Um, not so much.
So the k ids and I made an attempt But, he didn’t place candy canes where she wanted, the walls caved in and most of the gumdrops somehow landed in my stomach (don’t hate).
The festive family result? One minor argument and one slopped white icing explosion on a dilapidated gingerbread square splattered with a few elusive gumdrop escapees.
Holiday memories are the most priceless gifts Even at the expense of a stomachache
But really, isn’t December ex tra precious because of family moments? Memories of festive treats Bak ing with the k ids Decorating the tree Stuffed stock ings Holiday traditions be they spark ly, sloppy or messy but oh, so beautifully you
And beautiful you is what this issue of g lo is about From fun holiday crafts to procrastinator-busting par ty-planning timelines, this issue has it all Want tips to eat healthy during the holidays? Dear Sue,
I’m sending you this pic ture of my dear friend of nearly 20 years, Gina Lind, and myself, as we met one last time to say goodbye before her family moved to Washington state because of her husband’s new job, and my husband and I moved to Nor th Myr tle Beach, SC for our retirement! Exciting times for both of us for sure, but, I’ll definitely miss having her just a phone call away, a few miles down the road and a “let’s jump in the car and go SOMEWHERE, ANY WHERE!” My daughter and her son are now 21, and used to ride in the backseat of my minivan in their infant seats! Friendships such as ours are rare these days, and I will treasure my friendship with Gina forever and continue to nur ture it so in 20 years, we’ll still be taking pictures together such as this! I love g lo, and will subscribe to it so I never miss an issue when I’m living at the beach! Bonnie (on left); Gina (on right) Bonnie Simmons

Contouring Magic Contouring Magic
Master the Look of the Season
By Shannon Rooney
If you’ve picked up a fashion magazine or perused YouTube in the last year or so, you know that contouring is all the rage. This beaut y trend is all about highlighting your best features and, just in time for holiday par ties, we’ve gathered some tips and tricks from the exper ts.
G L A M + S T Y L E | B e a u t y , F a s h i o n + S p a 10 glo s december 2017
An ar tist must have the right brush and contouring is no different Hayley Stout of JOPPA Cosmetics in Angola recommended both a fan brush and a multitask ing brush to apply
And, of course, you’ll need makeup M ichelle Fanning, stylist and creative direc tor at Hair Candy Salon and Spa in For t Wayne, advised star ting with “a cream or powder to match your sk in tone and one shade lighter and one shade darker than your sk in tone And a highlighter
cream or powder ” While contouring darkens the areas of your face that are in shadow, highlighter lightens the areas that light would naturally hit
Generally, if you have light or fair sk in, choose a taupe contour that won’t be too heavy or dark For medium or tan sk in, tr y a bronze contour to complement your sun-k issed look And, for dark sk in, use a highlighter in copper or bronze to lighten around your features
Many beauty supply stores sell complete conany different sk in ettes are great for firstthey provide the exac t place with a couple variound to get the look
makeup mirror and, of tural light if possible
plying your makeup, vised, “apply your founpowder Finish with the ouring color at the holcheeks, lightly outside of your nose and the your forehead. Apply ontouring shade above your cheeks, on the forehead, down the ose and above the line lend to per fec t Apply ose, top of cheek bones he lip ”
When star ting out, remember that “less is more, ” Stout advised We all have a different face shape and bone struc ture to accentuate For example, said Stout, “for a bigger nose, take some bronzer on a thin brush and contour/blend the sides of the nose to create a thinner look ing nose ” Star t light and be sure to blend well after applying your highlighter to give your makeup a finished look. Add a complementar y blush to put some color in your cheeks and balance the rest of your makeup with your overall look to avoid overapplying.
Take your contour look out to play this season with some winter y makeup trends
First, “Don't forget your highlighter, and even use a little ex tra so it pops in photos, ” said Fanning O ther wise, play with some seasonal color “A crimson or scarlet red lip will also be on trend for the season And don't forget to pencil or shadow in your brows for an enhanced, nice bold brow, ” she added “Pair that look with a velvet or lace outfit and a Brigitte Bardot bang and you will be on top of the hottest trends for this 2017 holiday season ” a

Denise Hunter novelist
By Deborah C Gerbers
Denise Hunter has a knack for writing romance stories with a women’s fic tion feel She just released her 30th novel, called “Sweetbriar Cottage.” Happily married for 28 years, Hunter and her husband have a newly empt y nest as the last of their three boys recently left for college, now allowing her to devote even more time to her writing
Growing up, Hunter was always an avid reader “I was that girl in study hall with her nose stuck in a book, ” she said “In my early 20s I began to wonder if I could write a novel, but I was married, going to college and having babies, so I put my dream on the back burner But as it turned out, God had far bigger dreams for my writing than I ever did.”
A longtime romance reader herself, writing the same genre came naturally to Hunter “I like delving into the heroine’s peripheral relationships and dealing with major issues like abuse, unplanned pregnanc y and PTSD, etc, ” she said. “ There’s also always a faith thread in my books. My first four novels were historical romance, but since then I’ve been writing contemporar y ”
Hunter draws inspiration for her writing from a variety of places, and she has a par ticular interest in learning what makes people tick. “I love exploring my character's histor y and figuring out what makes her shy away from love or avoid conflic t or what made him become that confirmed bachelor, ” she said “ There’s always a reason, and I love getting to the bottom of it ”
Hunter ’s newest novel came out Nov 7, called “Blue Ridge Sunrise, ” the first book in her Blue Ridge series Set in the nor th Georgia mountains, it features a woman who must return home to run the family peach orchard and face her first love, who broke her hear t four years ago
With a large readership of devoted fans, Hunter ’s many books are all popular, but she does mention a few specific ones as being especially favored “ ‘ The Convenient Groom’ has been a reader favorite for a long time, and last year I was thrilled when it became a Hallmark movie, ” she said “I’m getting a lot of reader letters about ‘Sweetbriar Cottage, ’ so I think that stor y is striking a chord with a lot of women There’s nothing better than finding out your writing has made an impac t on someone. I t ’s ver y rewarding.” a

glow GIRL glow GIRL Maddie Dean
Age: 9
By Cathy Shouse + Photo by Sue Rawlinson
Nine-year-old Maddie Dean knows something many adults have yet to learn: Being happy comes from within.
Dean chooses joy through creating ar t, even though since age three, she has fought an autoimmune disease, juvenile dermatomyositis, which affec ts her skin and muscles
True to her sunny spirit, Dean turned her treatment at Riley Children’s Hospital for Children into a way to help others She sells her ar t for about $25 each, to raise money as means to ‘give back ’ to Riley An animal lover to her young core, some of Dean’s ar t features a variety of animals
“My favorites are lions and elephants I painted elephants touching their trunks to make a hear t, and a dog on a poster for Make-A-Wish, thank ing them for my dog Haider, ” Dean said “I just recently drew and colored penguins sliding down a snow y hill that Make-A-Wish will use for its holiday cards my favorite thing was the autism awareness ribbon, because the puzzle pieces were cool and it was cool that I ac tually did it!”
In addition to raising more than $1,000 for Riley, Dean has donated $200 to the Allen County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Dean’s mother, Angela, and father, Matthew, are her chief cheerleaders, as are friends and family around the countr y Dean is homeschooled, and also loves writing and playing piano She especially enjoys music from “Hamilton, ” the play she has memorized Dean paints primarily with acr ylics, and she began drawing at age four.
Difficulties with muscle weak ness haven’t stopped her from joining Lions K arate of For t Wayne Her instruc tor helps pay mailing costs for her paintings.
“I wanted to give back to Riley for all that it has done for me, ” Dean said “ The nurses to doc tors are amazing there They have helped us through tough times and put a smile on our faces, ” she said “And the SPCA, I just think it ’s amazing what they're doing for those animals, and I love animals, too, so I just wanted to help them out a little bit.”
Word of her talent has spread on her Facebook page “People post my paintings on their Facebook page and tell me how much they love them, ” Dean said.
And like most children this time of year, Dean, too, is look ing for ward to Christmas She’s excited for “the smells, cook ies bak ing, cinnamon candles and Christmas trees!”
Loving, bubbly, ar tistic and inspired by a sincere wish to ‘give back ’ to those who’ve helped her, Dean’s happiness-from-the-inside life approach ser ves as inspiration to those aged 9 to 99

Get-a-Glance: Holiday Looks
Three looks for ladies during the holidays
By Deborah C. Gerbers
Scene: the family holiday par ty
Who’s invited: I t ’s a gathering with the entire fam’ damily, including your sweet great-grandma and the in-laws
Ok ay, ladies. This is the time to keep a classic and elegant look that is sure to please the more traditional tastes in certain family members. Tr y for minimal and/or neutral makeup, age-appropriate sk ir ts and dresses and a more conser vative look overall
Dress: Your boyfriend’s Great-Aunt Trudy will likely appreciate a modest approach and she might even feel more comfor table if you’re not wearing stilettos and a barely-there mini sk ir t Classic pieces like shift dresses, pencil sk ir ts, wide-leg slacks and sweater sets are timeless items that can be mixed and matched for a great look that ’s elegant and appropriate for even meeting the in-laws for the first time
Makeup: 5 Elements Salon esthetician and makeup ar tist Tonya Andrews said to keep your makeup lighter, but also keep a glow for the winter more lip color or gloss “In the winter, our sk in tends to be drier and be a little sallow, ” she said “Focus on the cheeks to give a more rosy glow that we lack in the winter months ”
Scene: the girlfriends’ holiday par ty
Who’s invited: All your holiday-lovin’ gal pals
Cheers to gal pals ever ywhere! What ’s better than getting glitz y and wild with those women who love and accept you just as you are? Hey, for a fun girls’ night out, don’t be afraid to shine and spark le literally
Dress: Local boutiques like Lace + Arrow offer a wide variety of unique pieces that work great for ever yone, like offthe-shoulder tops and cute dresses that are per fec t for a night on the town with the girls. Tr y new trends that you wouldn’t normally go with, like ruching, ruffles, lace and even bejeweled shoes Keep it fun and young and don’t forget to raid your girlfriends’ closets while you’re getting ready for the big night out
Makeup: This is the time to be bold with material, accessories and makeup, experimenting with new trends like brightly colored eye shadow and bold brows. “For this makeup look, I would lean toward darker, rich chocolates and lids with shimmer, ” Andrews said “Again, I would use a bit more blush in warmer colors like plum Add mascara to open up the eyes and even tr y out fake lashes for fun This is a time to brighten, lighten and add shimmer!”

Scene: the you-and-him holiday date night
Who’s invited:You Him
Date night calls for a romantic look with a touch of glam but stay true to yourself since that ’s who your guy loves!
Dress: Opt for a little glam, but comfor t as well in case your plans take you to the dance floor after dinner Consider sex y shoes, but ones comfor table enough that they won’t k ill your feet Look for chic wool coats, coz y cashmere scar ves and even fun winter accessories like fuzz y earmuffs and mittens to keep warm during your date. You’ll be prepared to walk around downtown shops, grab some hot cocoa on a carriage ride or just to sit outside gazing at holiday lights
Makeup: Date night makeup should highlight your best features and make you feel special and pretty. “Focus on the cheeks to put glow back into your sk in, ” said Andrews. “And go for a softer smok y eye for a romantic look, flir ty lips and more gloss and shimmer for a pretty look ” a

Procrastination-busting timelines
Procrastination-busting timelines
By Julie Young
It ’s the most wonder ful time of the year, unless of course you tend to procrastinate. With only five weeks to go until the end of the year, it ’s time to get cracking on those
“ To Do” lists, break down the chores, simplify and delegate responsibilities so you can celebrate the season stress-free. We’re making our lists, checking it t wice and we will know if you’ve been naught y or nice!
Five Weeks to Go:
• Take advantage of Black Friday-Sunday sales, Cyber Monday deals and make charitable contributions on Giving Tuesday
• If you need to put items in the mail, assemble the tools you need to wrap gifts and sign cards then make a trip to the post office to get these tasks completed now
• Make a visit to Santa and help the k iddos write letters to the Nor th Pole
Four Weeks to Go:
• Get decorations out of storage and begin putting them up. Star t with any outdoor lights because as the days go on, the weather gets chanc y so on the first decent day, get these out of the way.
• While you may have a desire to decorate the whole house from top to bottom, decide what absolutely must be done and don’t stress over ever y room and ever y item I t ’s per fec tly OK to rotate décor from one year to the nex t.
• Inventor y all wrap and ribbons and replenish what you need to prevent a special trip later Set up a wrapping station with pens, scissors, tags and other items you will need as the days go on.
• Order any food you may need for a holiday par ty such as turkey, ham, cook ies or cake
26 glo s december 2017 F E A T U R E S | L i f e s t y l e + B a l a n c e
Three Weeks to Go: (Chanukah begins on Dec. 12. Plan your calendar accordingly.)
• Finish up shopping (yes, finish now!) and wrap presents Use gift bags for as many items as possible
• Create holiday/par ty menus
• Shop for easy-to-make foods (frozen meals are a great choice for the holiday season and come in reasonable por tions for those watching waistlines), non-perishable holiday items and any bak ing produc ts you may need. (Keep it simple: Refrigerated cook ie dough and pre-made bread mixes are perfec tly acceptable )
• Clean house from top to bottom, delegating chores to family members
• Bake cook ies and assemble gift bags for friends and family members
Two Weeks to Go: (the week before Christmas)
• Air out and prepare any guest rooms to be used during the holidays
• Go caroling with friends.
• Attend work par ties
• Shop for any last minute items.
Week
of Christmas:
• Attend Christmas Eve ser vices at the church of your choice
• Enjoy the holiday!
• Begin pack ing up (and putting away) boxes, wrapping paper gift bags and other items that are no longer needed
• Make New Year ’s Eve reser vations or shop for your own New Year ’s Eve festivities
• Send thank you notes for gifts received.
• Deliver gifts to local friends
• Ring in 2018, relaxed, stress-free and with gratitude in your hear t a

Healthy Eating During the Holidays
By Barb Sieminsk i
The holiday smorgasbord is one of the great joys of the season, but if you’re like most of us you’d prefer to keep the monster calories at bay
Take hear t; there are ways to get through this. Enjoy some tips to keep you (and your waistline) merr y this season:
• If your schedule permits, workout before going to the holiday par ty Even a shor t, brisk walk is beneficial
• Don’t sk ip meals on the day of the big holiday social gathering The more ‘eaten-at-home’ healthy cuisine in you, the less you’ll be encouraged to fill up on the sugar y par ty foods such as pie, cook ies, cake, candy and more
• Before you go, nibble a little something an orange or some crackers so your tummy will be happy and you’ll be less likely to mindlessly graze at the gaily decorated table of oral temptations
• Let your guide be “moderation in all things ” Yes, enjoy the smorgasbord but on a limited basis Choose to sample just a little bit of a few favorite dishes With controlled por tions, you’ll be able to enjoy more foods without feeling deprived
• Eat when you’re hungr y and slow down, chewing each bite thoroughly.
• Keep a food diar y I t ’s a pain, we k now, but if you’re dedicated to listing each new food, it will likely become tedious and you’ll soon realize it ’s more trouble to write down each food that comes along, so you’ll cut back. That ’s the theor y, anyway.
• Stand at least a few feet from the snack table Eat filling foods first (such as cottage cheese or soup) so you feel less hungr y
Holiday Supplements
What else c an we do to stay healthy this season?
Gregg Russell, Pharm.D., CCN, M.S MTM, pharmacist and owner of For t Wayne Custom R X, offered these tips:
“ This time of the year it is impor tant to keep our immune system healthy. The shor ter days means less sunshine available for our bodies to make Vitamin D Therefore, I recommend that we supplement with ex tra Vitamin D3 of at least 1000 IU per day Also, it is impor tant to eat a well-rounded diet full of vegetables and fruits that provide antioxidants Again, with the winter approaching it may be more difficult to get fresh fruits and vegetables Therefore, I also recommend a high qualit y multi-vitamin and minerals. And finally, to help keep our skins from dr ying out, Omega 3 fish oils are essential Omega 3 is not only good for our skin, but is impor tant for brain health, inflammation and our immune system.”
How to be even healthier?
• Make family and friends the focus of the celebration rather than food.
• Don’t wear your “fat pants” to a social gathering ( We k now, we k now In your hear t of hear ts you secretly hope to indulge in a ‘feeding frenz y for one ’ Nope Not this time )
• Bring an emergenc y pack with you to nibble on before going and after you leave if you are still ravenous Such a pack may contain raw almonds, pecans or walnuts; a bag of cut carrots or cucumbers; a small container of hummus; a can of wild salmon; a container of chick peas with lemon, salt and pepper; or a whole-food protein bar.
• Watch your alcohol intake this makes you uninhibited around food.

The Host With the Most
If you’re hosting the festivities yourself, some great low-calorie eats to have on-hand include a vibrant palette of cherr y tomatoes, celer y sticks, radishes, apple slices, grapes, boneless chicken wings, olives, turkey, beef and ham cubes, and cheese and ham pinwheels. Cantaloupe and honeydew melon balls are color ful additions and so are low-calorie nuts and small wheat par ty crackers Sushi and hummus are also good Don’t forget the perennial crowd pleasers of deviled eggs, shrimp, crabsticks and dip For desser ts, include chocolate-covered strawberries, miniature tea cook ies or angel food cake.
Your company will enjoy the multihued, healthy variety of goodies on your holiday foodie display a

Christmas Crafts
To Complete Your Holiday Home
By Erin Dozois
Looking to add a little warmth and creativit y to your holidays this year? Well, ‘tis the season to get craft y, and there’s no better place to spread good cheer than in your own home! We’ve collec ted over 30 examples and tutorials that are sure to turn your place into a winter wonderland.
ADVENT C ALENDARS
Many amazing advent calendars can be created by simply “upc ycling” old clothing, which is not only clever, but inherently nostalgic, as well Imagine all the k ids’ old mittens strewn beautifully across the mantle adorable and way more sentimental than storage.
CENTERPIECES
Try This!
Yarn Pinecones
Wrap color ful yarn around the pinecone scales, keeping it tightly tucked toward the pinecone’s center Secure the yarn’s end with a dot of glue
Candy is not just for cravings anymore Take advantage of their shiny, holidayinspired foil wrappings and the patterns found on those traditional treats we all k now and love.
Look ing for a little more bling? Mak ing an arrangement of shiny tree ornaments and glitter y garland will do the trick
Try This!
Take-Out B oxes Advent Calendar
Measure the height of the box and the width of the bottom to cut out 12 red and 13 green squares of construc tion paper Inser t squares into one side of each box, and secure with double-sided tape Apply number stickers: odd numbers on red and even numbers on green
LIGHTING
A girl can easily spend big money on lighting up her holidays, but with a few items and a little crafting magic, she can keep her home merr y and bright
Tr y dressing up plain hurricanes by adorning them with ribbon and other lux-look ing details, or by filling them with interesting holiday treats Add glitter to Mason jars for some frugal and frosty fineries And if you’re good with the scissors and glue, by all means, whip up some warmly lit paper luminaries
Try This!
Ice Votives
Fill a small plastic cup with water and put a larger, plastic container inside Fill large plastic container with water Feel free to add evergreen sprigs, berries, etc., for added interest. Freeze overnight.

MINI TREES
If you want to really spread the Christmas spirit around the house, just remember : you can never have enough mini trees Display different sizes of mini trees in clusters and feel free to experiment with unexpec ted materials such as pinecones, shells and sheet music, to name only a few. You can also dress up clippings from larger plants for a more natural touch.
THE TABLE
Arguably one of the most highly anticipated events of any holiday gathering is the Christmas dinner, so don’t neglec t the table when think ing of festive décor Pieces of gift wrap can add a little something special to ser ving plates, while chair adornments and this delightful pinecone place card will have ever yone in attendance feeling like a valued guest. Add a restaurant-style menu board? All hail the Christmas Queen!
WREATHS
ORNAMENTS
One could publish a book the size of a dic tionar y on how to craft different k inds of ornaments, but we’ve included a small handful of examples we think are pretty cool: various button ornaments, cook ie cutter and candy coated ornaments, ornaments with natural elements and a clothespin snowflake So cute
Try This!
Mod Tree Topper
Use dowel rods, a foam sphere and some spray paint and glitter for a serious holiday wow fac tor Complete instructions at http://bit ly/2gSzwiK
Wreath styles are as varied as individual taste, but we are loving these popular takes on this true Christmas classic Using fresh ingredients like fresh fruit and moss can add a touch of sincerity to the season Coat silk flowers, pinecones, etc with snow spray to keep things festive regardless of the forecast. a
Try This!
Ceiling Medallion Wreath
If traditional isn’t really your thing, this projec t is for you Just coat a ceiling medallion (available at your local hardware store) in green high-gloss spray paint, then loop through some color ful holiday ribbon for hanging.

Brownies are always a crowd favorite, as are holiday-themed goodies during the month of December. Here, we combine both.
So, pour a glass of vino and have fun making these Christmas Tree Brownies. Then, enjoy the praise you’ll hear from par t y-gatherers at your house when ser ving a tray of these homemade holiday beauties!
Merr y Christmas, readers May your gatherings be filled with good times, lots of laughter and deliciously festive treats.
Ingredients:
Brownies:
Christmas Tree Brownies
• 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for greasing the pans
• 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla ex trac t
• 3 large eggs
• 1 cup all-purpose flour (see Cook's Note)
• 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 teaspoon fine salt
• 1/2 teaspoon bak ing powder
• 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
• Six teen 1 1/2-inch pieces candy cane
• White sprink les and small non-pareil candy-covered chocolates, such as Sno-Caps, for decorating
American Buttercream Frosting:
• 1 cup confec tioners' sugar
• 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
• Pinch of fine salt
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla ex trac t
• 1/4 to 1/2 tablespoon whole milk
• 24 drops green food coloring
• 1 drop red food coloring
Directions
Special equipment: A piping bag or resealable plastic bag
For the brownies:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter the bottom and sides of two 8-inch round cake pans. Cut two 8-inch circles out of parchment and line the bottoms of the cake pans with the parchment.
2 Stir together the butter, granulated sugar, vanilla and eggs in a medium bowl In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt and bak ing powder Add the dr y ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined
3. Stir in the chocolate chips and divide the batter between the prepared pans, smoothing the tops. Bake until the brownies begin to gain a crust around the edges, pull away from the edge and a toothpick inser ted in the center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes
4 Let the brownies cool fully in the pans on cooling racks, about 1 hour Cut each circle into 8 equal triangles with a k nife Use a small offset spatula or pie ser ver to lift each triangle out of the pan
For the American buttercream frosting:
Combine the confec tioners' sugar, butter and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or in a large bowl if using a handheld elec tric mixer) M ix on low speed until mostly incorporated Add the vanilla, increase the speed to medium-high and mix until smooth Loosen the consistenc y with milk as desired Add 24 drops green food coloring and 1 drop red food coloring and mix on medium speed for 1 minute Set aside
To assemble:
1 Using the tip of a paring k nife or a skewer, poke a small hole along the bottom edge of each brownie Inser t a candy cane "trunk" into each hole
2 Fill the piping bag with the frosting and cut 1/4 inch off the tip Using a zig-zag motion, pipe the frosting from the base to the tip of each tree Decorate the trees with sprink les and top each with a candy-covered chocolate as the star.
Cook's Note
When measuring flour, we spoon it into a dr y measuring cup and level off the excess. (Scooping direc tly from the bag compac ts the flour, resulting in dr y baked goods.) a *Recipe from Foodnetwork.com

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
The ability to celebrate a number of holidays is a blessing, so trim the tree, light the menorah and have a happy bir thday I t is the most wonder ful time of the year so why not make the most of it with a non-stop par ty? Your friends and family love any excuse to get together so invite them for the celebrations.
Capricorn (December 22 - Januar y 19)
Empathy and compassion are your strong suit and this is the month to put them on full display. Send cards to the VA hospital, visit the pediatric unit or deliver care pack ages to the homeless There is so much you can do to show how much you care and the need is great
Aquarius ( Januar y 20 - Februar y 18)
I t ’s really impor tant to go with the flow this month and accept things as they are There is no such thing as a per fec t holiday and no amount of expec tations, preparation and planning can turn it into a Hallmark card Memories are made from ex traordinar y occasions, even if things go wrong
Pisces (Februar y 19 - March 20)
You will attend an event this month that will open your eyes to a new culture Embrace the food, the customs and celebrations and infuse some of it into your life all year long I t will add depth and make ever ything more interesting
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
The holidays are full of emotional excitement so steer clear of touchy conversational topics and people who make you uncomfor table Put in your appearance at the holiday festivities and then make it an early night I t ’s better than wallowing in turmoil during what should be a happy occasion.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Ever yone needs boundaries, but during the holidays, it ’s OK to let things slide a little You can go back to your diet after the New Year You can sleep in on the weekends, but be cognizant to enjoy the here and now. You’ve been disciplined for so long; it ’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
You’ve gone through something difficult in recent weeks and you’ve distanced yourself from those you love. Remember, especially during this season, it ’s OK to need others You do You need your family and friends more than ever, so allow them to embrace you
Cancer ( June 21 - July 22)
You can only control so much and beyond that, you have to roll with the punches You can’t guarantee a white Christmas any more than you can steer a sleigh or make reindeer fly Do what you can, take things as they come and trust that ever ything will work out as it is supposed to
Leo ( July 23 - August 22)
The cuteness of k ids at Christmas is not lost on you and perhaps this is the motivation you need to consider expanding your own family Talk to the one you love about what you are feeling and see if he is on the same page of the “baby book ” Perhaps there will be a special deliver y for you nex t year!
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
You have to stop sweating the small stuff or it will over whelm you. Studies show that minor hassles cause more harm than major life events and who needs that? Not you, that ’s for sure. No one will notice the minor details if you sk ip over them. They just want to see you happy, so give yourself a break.
Libra (September 23 - Oc tober 22)
Ever yone has that one person whose melodrama threatens the holidays but you can’t let him spoil your fun If you can’t reason with the individual or convince him to dial the drama down a notch, then set firm limits on how much time you plan to spend with him
Scorpio (Oc tober 23 - November 21)
Food could and should be a pleasurable experience and with you in the k itchen, you k now your cook ies will be the best, your meal the most memorable and ever y dish a delight This is your month to merrily share your sk ills and put together an affair that will be remembered all season long a
