Milford Police were advised several hours prior to the local arrest that Dyson was suspected of driving her vehicle through a 50-foot-by-12-foot-high security gate at the city’s treatment plant and stealing a gas can. A video at a gas station shows Dyson filling the gas can and then going back to the wastewater treatment plant, driving through the yard, throwing the gas can and then exiting the plant driving through the 50-foot-by-12-foot exit gate.

Traffic stop has connection to Ohio case
According to the officer, Dyson called 911 and told the dispatcher that she was not going to stop because of it being late at night. However, she did stop in the area of CR 500N, north of WLM Property.She was arrested for speeding and resisting law enforcement and booked in the Kosciusko County Jail. Her bond was set at $5,250 surety and cash.
The officer reported he had activated his lights and siren, with other vehicles yielding to his emergency lights; however, Dyson refused to stop. At one point Dyson even activated the emergency lights on her vehicle.

All charges made by law enforcement are allegations and individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The children choose plaid, swirl or red and blue felt bear shapes to sew. They glued eyes, bellies and muzzles on the bears, with the help of adults, and then stuffed the bears. The children were delighted to take the bears home after the project was complete.

Miller said, “It was a super awesome morning to run. They changed up the course a little last year and now you run around Syracuse Lake. I’ve run in this race since I was a sophomore in high school. Fifty artists entered the contest in April, KC Recycling Depot’s first time holding it. They were to create something using recycled materials. Greg Kline resigned from his position as full-time deputy town marshal of Milford on Thursday, June 25. Kline’s resignation followed a three-day suspension from the department. Milford council members said the suspension with pay was a disciplinary measure.

Alyssa Schmucker is a full-time paid staff member of North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Emergency Medical Service. “My parents were both involved in EMS when I started, so it was kind of a family thing at first,” she says. “Then I realized how rewarding this job can be. I have been with the service for 10 years and enjoy the work as much as I did when I just started.”
Bianca Pagnozzi, Curitiba, Brazil, was with Joanne McMillin, Chapman Lake, at the Oakwood Art Festival Saturday. Bianca was an exchange student at Wawasee High School eight years ago and returned for a week to visit with her host, Marilynne Curtis, who was a high school guidance counselor at that time. Bianca also spent a lot of time with the McMillin family, Marilynne’s neighbors, during her semester here as a student and was pleased to see them again last week. She enjoyed her vacation at the lake visiting the families and spent one day in Chicago.

MEET MILFORD is seeking the community’s help for its next Friday Food Truck event, to be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 15, in downtown Milford. The July theme is “Touch-a-Truck,” and they are in need of trucks, tractors or other interesting vehicles for children to see up close.
Meals include a generous helping of fish, tartar sauce, cole slaw, dinner roll and dessert. The cost per meal is $11. Tickets can be purchased at the event or in advance from any Lions Club member. Advance tickets can also be purchased for donation in the buyer’s name to the Syracuse Food Pantry. Donated tickets will be given to food pantry clients.

When asked about his and Brenda’s decision to move back to the Kosciusko County area, he said, “We decided to come back because our entire family was from this area and we wanted to be close to them. We also loved growing up in the area. I practiced dentistry for more than 42 years at Northwood Family Dentistry in Nappanee and retired at the end of 2021.”

Nobody had to worry about anything.”

Baumgartner both grew up in Kosciusko County and later decided to settle here permanently. When asked about what it was like growing up in Syracuse, Joe Baumgartner said, “My family moved to Syracuse in 1957 from Nappanee so my dad could be closer to his work at Weatherhead Corporation. I attended kindergarten through ninth grade at Syracuse Elementary, junior high, and high school. I attended one year at Syracuse High before it consolidated into Wawasee High School in the fall of 1968.“I had great teachers and great friends growing up in Syracuse. Syracuse High didn’t have a varsity football team, only a freshman team,” he said. “Don Story was the junior high and freshman football coach at Milford and then was the first Wawasee varsity football coach.”Baumgartner has fond memories of growing up around the lakes. He said, “My dad was an outdoorsman. I grew up hunting, trapping and fishing in and around Syracuse and Wawasee lakes. I loved the outdoor activities in Kosciusko County.”

While reminiscing about her childhood days at Milford Elementary School, she said, “Wilbur Baumgartner was the custodian at Milford Elementary School and he would pay us a nickel for every gopher we caught in the schoolyard because he was always trying to get rid of them. Then we took the nickels to Fuller General Store to buy candy.” When asked how they managed to pull off such a feat, she said, “We filled gallon plastic milk jugs with water and as the gopher ran into the hole we poured the water jugs over the hole and trapped the gophers in our jugs as they tried to scurry out.”
She said, “I taught elementary school for 32 years. Now we have retired in Kosciusko County. We really appreciate Kosciusko County. People have strong values, are helpful, and are great neighbors. Whether it’s company dropping in for a cookout or going out to eat, we really enjoy our neighborhood. We feel like it’s a very pleasant and peaceful place to live.”

“Everyone had a blast watching the K-9s work and then checking out the fire and EMS apparatuses afterward, noted Sarah Wright, the library’s communications specialist. “There was also a lot of great information given by our local emergency professionals!”
While reminiscing about his childhood friends and the fun they had growing up in Syracuse, he said, “We loved to play basketball and even shoveled snow off the black tops at Syracuse High School in the winter to shoot baskets. I used to go to the Pickwick Theater with my friends and watch plenty of movies there over the years. We saw ‘Goldfinger’ there, ‘The Longest Day’ and ‘Doctor No.’ My two best friends were Don Hasse and Joel Burkholder.”Hewent on to talk about how he met his wife of 48 years. “I met Brenda my junior year in high school when we were TP’ing a teacher’s house. We both then attended Ball State and were married in August 1974. I delivered ice for Reimers Ice Company out of North Webster in the summertime during my undergraduate and dental school years for five summers. I went on to Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1975 and graduated in 1979.”
