Holiday Glo(w)

ADD SOME SPARKLE AND SHINE

By Lauren Caggiano

The holidays are high time to shine a little brighter. That means going all in with makeup, hair and nails. Shirley Williams, owner of Southwest Hair & Day Spa in Fort Wayne, said there’s no shortage of trends we can embrace for a striking full-face look, even if holiday celebrations look different this year.

This isn’t the occasion to be shy about trying new colors, products and techniques. After all, if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s the importance of cherishing every moment. But where to begin? For starters, Williams recommends creating a smoky eye with an ultra-violet purple shadow.

Of course, lashes deserve some love, too. To get the spider lash trend, use a black crayon eyeliner inside and on top, winging up with a short line inside. Then follow with a heavy black mascara or an eyelash lift and tint to get a look that says flirty sophistication meets holiday glam.

Opt for a statement brow as the icing on the cake. Wispy or over-grown brows? You can still get a picture-perfect look by embracing your natural brow shape and growth pattern. In other words, it’s a messy yet put-together brow. Williams recommends brow lamination, which directs and thickens the brow hairs. Ultramanicured brows are so 2007, after all! Natural-looking brows are the choice of Hollywood starlets these days.

Another hot-off-the-runway look? Eyeliner can pack a mean punch, especially when paired with other products. “Use a color pencil at the lash line and follow with black heavy lashes,” Williams said. Feeling a little extra? Try doublelined eyelids. This technique will boost your impact. Williams’ recommendations? “Black then gold above or any color you prefer. Shiny Gold is festive.”

You can also create an equally stunning look with a softer eye and a more in-your-face pout. Think an ultra-dark vampy matted lip color.

More into subtlety? No problem. You can get a softer look that still grabs attention. Williams recommends Impressively Pink Shadow with soft lashes and a soft pink pout. A lip crayon provides great coverage without the typical heaviness of lipstick.

Want that dewy glow? It starts with a good skincare routine, but you can accentuate your flawless complexion with a neutral palette. Channel your inner goddess with monochromatic earth-tone peach colors for eyes, blush and lips. Another equally stunning yet refined look is a neutral eye shadow paired with a warm blush and red lips. Williams suggests a lip gloss to round out the look.

And last but not least, don’t forget to set your makeup with a spray. Williams recommends Bullet Proof Spray so you can rest easily knowing you’re ready for photos any time, sans fallout. Voilà. You’re ready to turn heads! a
