JAMIE MARIE CRAWFORD

WINAMAC, IN - Jamie Marie Crawford, 42, died at 11:55pm, Sunday, April 23, 2023, at her home, after a valiant fight against cancer. She was born February 5, 1981, in Winamac, to Phillip “Flip” and Anne (Fisher)Crawford.

Jamie was a 2000 graduate of Winamac High School. She had worked at the Division of Family Resources in Winamac for 12 years. She most recently worked as a property manager for Bradley Co. in Culver, Indiana. outside of work, she was a dedicated home caregiver for several local families. She devoted her life to her 3 sons and she enjoyed floating the river, spending time at the casino and being physically active riding bikes, walking and roller blading.

She is survived by three sons: Matthew Scheffer, Michael Calabrese and Mason Calabrese, her parents, Flip and Anne Crawford, one brother, Jeremy (Rhonda) Crawford, one sister, Rachel Crawford and her grandmother, Jeanettie “Sis” Fox. She was preceded in death by grandparents: Raymond Crawford and Albert and Josephine Fisher and step grandfathers: Arthur “Art” Fox and John Galbreath.

Services were held Monday, May 1, at Frain Mortuary, with Pastor Heath Hiatt officiating. Burial was in the Winamac Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary, Winamac.

ELIZABETH J. THOMPSON

WINAMAC, IN - Elizabeth J. “Betty” Thompson, 82, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at her home. She was born August 30, 1940, in Winamac, to the late John and Lillian Jane (Oldfield) Vedok.

Betty enjoyed gardening, shopping and traveling. She attended First Christian Church in Winamac. She adored her cat and loved her family very much.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Thompson, two daughters: Kimberly (Miles) Malmborg and Kellie (Bryan) Wheeler, nine grandchildren, two great granddaughters, one sister, Mary (David) Thill and one brother, Stephen (Sue) Vedok. She was preceded in death by five sisters: Catherine Liddicoatt, Lorraine Lockridge, Violet Faber, Anna Koekenberg and Dorothy Kline and three brothers: John Vedok, Jr., Michael Vedok, Sr. and Joseph Vedok.

Amemorial service will be held at the Church of Christ in Itasca, Illinois on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Private burial will take place at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Gentiva Hospice.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary, Winamac.

SADIE MAE RITCHIE

KNOX, IN - Sadie Mae Ritchie, 92, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in Knox, Indiana. She was born September 24, 1930, in Vest, Kentucky, to the late William and Maudie (Sparkman) Sawyer.

Sadie was a long time member of the English Lake Church in North Judson, Indiana. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading the Bible and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons: Willard Ritchie Jr. of California and Dana Chris (Christina) Ritchie of Hot Springs, Arkansas, seven daughters: Carolyn Baughman of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Shirley Ann Richie and Lisa Bottorff, both of Pryor, Oklahoma, Jeanette Rogers, Sharon (Dave)McIntire and Sandy (Donny)Binkley, all of Knox and Barb (Raul) Fernandez of Cedar City, Utah, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Ritchie, one son, Robert Charles Ritchie, two daughters: Pamela Denise Ritchie and Mari Lou Bailey and eleven siblings.

Services were held Saturday, April 29, at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Art Good officiating. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox.

KATHLEEN JUNE MANION

GAHANNA, OH - FORMERLYOF MON-

TICELLO, IN - Kathleen June (Honegger) Manion, 84, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Taylor Springs Health Campus in Gananna, Ohio. She was born April 10, 1939, in Francesville, Indiana, to the late Herman and Ida (Quasebarth) Honegger. In 1958, she married Fred Aldon Manion. He died in 2019.

Kathleen was a 1957 graduate of Francesville High School. She attended St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville. She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling to national parks, Alaska and Hawaii and on fishing trips with her children.

She is survived by three sons: Fred (Lora) Manion of Fort Myers, Florida, Kurt (Joetta) Manion of Blacklick, Ohio and Brad (Deb) Manion of Monticello, six grandchildren and two great grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at 2pm EDT, Thursday, May 4, at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville, with Rev. Nelda Seger officiating. Memorial contributions made by made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. James Salem United Church of Christ.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.

CHARLES E. JOHNSON

KNOX, IN - Charles E. “Chuck” Johnson, 97, died Saturday, April 29, 2003, at his home. He was born October 29, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Edward and Martha Johnson.

Chuck was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy aboard the USS Colorado and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He worked as an Engineer on the Rock Island Railroad and Metra, retiring after 42 years of service. He loved living at Bass Lake and was an avid golfer, line dancer and song leader at the Grace Fellowship Church in Logansport, Indiana. He enjoyed his time speaking with the students at Knox High School about his military service. Chuck enjoyed having coffee with his buddies.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, children: Mary Ann (Jerry) Taylor, Debi Augle, Sherri (Lee) Swardson, Theresa Thomas and Michael (Amanda) Thomas, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Griffin, one grandson, Bill Welch and one sister, Evelyn Emanuelson.

Afuneral service will take place on Thursday, May 4, at 2pm CT, with visitation two hours prior to services at M. C. Smith Funeral Home.

Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox.

Don Dean McCormick

Don Dean McCormick, 87, of North Judson, Indiana passed away peacefully in his home on April 24, 2023. His wife and three daughters were at his side.

Don was born on September 5, 1935 to Dorothy and Willard McCormick in LaPorte, Indiana. After Don graduated from North Judson High School in 1953 he went into the U.S. Marine Corps and completed basic training at Camp Pendleton. Don served for three years in the Korean War; he was discharged at the rank of Sargent in 1956. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Service Medal. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Don returned home to North Judson, Indiana to help his father with the family business, McCormick Mortuary.

In 1957 Don met Judith Lemke in North Judson, Indiana. They married on January 11, 1958. The couple had three daughters together, Valerie (Chuck) Lippelt, Vicki (Doug) Fingerhut, and Patti McCormick (Scott Roy). After Don and Judy married, he began his career at NIPSCO, and retired after 35 years of service as a Construction Supervisor.

Don was a member of the American Legion Post 92, the VFW, and was a member of the North Judson Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years. He liked to spend free time building model airplanes and tinkering with projects; he could fix any project you put in front of him. In recent years, Don’s favorite hobby was “tracking” his daughters’and grandchildren’s locations on the “Find My Friend” iPhone app. If he noticed anyone’s routine changing, he would always give you a call.

Most importantly, Don was a loving grandparent and great-grandparent to ten grandchildren, Ryan (Kelsey), Nolan (Jesea), Alli (Eric), Carlyn (Brian), Neven, Abby, Cory (Chris), Danny (Elizabeth), Christian (Madison), and Patrick; and 11 great-grandchildren, Max, Alex, Maggie, Suri, Abe, Lilly, Lucy, Otto, Declan, Mia, and Teddy. Don also had a love for his feline companion, Roger, who brought him joy and comfort throughout his life.

Don could always be counted on for a word of encouragement, a joke, and a hug when you needed one.

Acelebration of life and graveside service are planned for Father’s Day weekend in North Judson, Indiana.

As Grandpa Don would always say, “See ya in a minute.”
