PHYLLIS JUNE JOHNSON
FRANCESVILLE, IN - Phyllis June
Johnson, 77, died Sunday, March 12, 2023, at her home. She was born July 20, 1945, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to the late Luther and Kathleen (Roberson) Coomer. On November 25, 1967, in Frankfort, Indiana, she married James M. Johnson. Phyllis was a 1963 graduate of Frankfort High School and attended Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, Illinois. She had worked at Sealy in Rensselaer, Indiana before becoming a daycare provider in Francesville. Her medical career started at Parkview Haven Retirement Home where she worked as a QMA. She retired as an LPN after nearly 30 years. She also had worked at several area nursing homes. She was a member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday School, VBS and Children’s Church. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Phyllis enjoyed reading, sewing and spoiling her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James, three sons: James S. (Kim) Johnson of Jamestown, Tennessee, Rodney A. (Sheila) Johnson of Coal Center, Pennsylvania and Jay M. (Jennifer) Johnson of Francesville, one daughter, Kathie M. (fiancé Brian Armstrong) Weihe of Monticello, Indiana, thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one sister, Faye Coomer of Rockville, Indiana and one brother, Melvin Coomer of Terre Haute, indiana. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Coomer.
Services were held Friday, March 17, at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Martin Burns officiating. Burial was in the Roseland Cemetery, Francesville, with Pastor Rodney Johnson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winamac Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville.
WILLIAM R. MAXWELL
WINAMAC, IN - William R. “Bill”
Maxwell, 85, died Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Northwest Health Hospital in LaPorte, Indiana. He was born April 14, 1937, in Gary, Indiana, to the late William L. and Helen (Riley) Maxwell. On October 19, 1957, in East Gary, he married Judith D. “Judy” Wignall. She died April 9, 2012.
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Edison high School in East Gary, Indiana. He was a former member of East Gary volunteer Fire Department. He began working at USSteel while in high school and then worked at Winamac Steel from 1967 until they closed in the mid 90’s. He then worked at Eaton until his retirement. He was a former posse member of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and a member of the Winamac VFW Auxiliary Post #1728 and the Winamac FOE #580. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters: Connie D. Perkins of Winamac and Becky J. Harvard of Lake Station, Indiana, one son, George E. Maxwell of Winamac, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step father, Harvey E. Bundy and one brother, George Noel Maxwell.
Graveside services will be held at 1pm EDT, Saturday, March 25, at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition), with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Memorial
Contributions may be made to the Pulaski County Human Services Food Pantry.
Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
DAVID WATSON
KNOX, IN - David Watson, 68, died Saturday, March 18, 2023, in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born March 11, 1955, in Knox, Indiana, to Roy Watson and Gathel (Minix) Sullivan. On November 11, 2011, he married Judith Thompson. she died on June 6, 2015.
David enjoyed playing the guitar, singing Gospel music, his dogs, cooking, reading the Bible, helping anyone in need and spending time with his family. He had worked as a truck driver.
He is survived by two daughters: Verna (Nate) McAllister of LaPorte, Indiana and Alicia Mark of Greenwood, Indiana, two grandchildren, his father, Roy, two brothers: Calvin (Vanessa) Watson and Denis Watson, all of North Judson, Indiana and four sisters: Debra (Ray) Stacy and Sheila Watson, both of North Judson, Donna (Greg)Payne of Valparaiso, and Karen (Doug)Lane of West Lafayette, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gathel and one brother, Roy Watson.
Friends will be received from 10am till time of service at 1pm, Saturday, March 25, at the Braman &Bailey Funeral Home, with services starting at 1pm, with Rev. James Adcock officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in North Judson. Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home, North Judson.
