Regina (Griffo) Howard November 22, 1943 ~ December 17, 2023
Happy 1st Heavenly Year
It’s been a long and lonley year for all of us left here. we miss your beaming smile that filled our hearts with cheer. We miss you at that scorer’s bench and at our family table. And the way that only you could bake like no one else was able. Honey, all is well down here for us, but now it’s very clear. It’s our happiness we miss the most. Now you are no longer here. We love you forever and always, Your loving family
Eternal rest grant unto Sherry, O Lord, and may a perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.
In the early morning hours of December 17, 2023, at Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City, lN, a Wife, Beloved Mother, and Friend, Regina Howard joined the choir of Angels. In North Judson, Regina, was born on November 22, 1943 to Serafino James and Lucy Griffo. Both parents preceded her in death. Regina had two brothers, Tom and Joe. Tom has passed away while brother Joe has been a close neighbor since 1960’s. On January 30, 1965, Regina, married Bob Howard, at St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in North Judson. The same church where Regina was baptized, confirmed, married, and now lies in repose at her funeral mass. Regina has been blessed with three children. Two sons and a daughter. RJ and Heather living in DeMotte and John and Jaimie in North Judson. A daughter Angela in North Judson. Three grandchildren, Maggie Lu, Fiona and Corban made Regina the most happy of Grandmothers. Her best, and happiest of times were when she was in the presence of these three little gifts from God. Once Regina was asked how she and Bob stayed married for so long. Her reply was “When we have something wrong in our marriage, we fix it!” Regina’s pride and joy was her business, Pioneer Florist Country Store in North Judson. For over forty years she brought the beauty of flowers into the lives of thousands of customers throughout northern Indiana. At Pioneer Florist the blessing of a life long friendship developed between many people but especially Regina and Lupe Guardiola. For two girls who never had any sisters, it was a match made in heaven and they became like sisters in so many ways. They shared the good times, happy times and the sad times. They laughed and hugged. When it was time they cried and hugged again in sadness or Joy. Regina also had a very similar friendship with a girl dating back to when they were both little children. Mary Ingram Pacilio and Regina grew up in a traditional Italian household and neither could remember not knowing each other. Both are fiery Italians that were life long friends Over the years Regina was active in the Chamber of Commerce, St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church Parish, and the Starke County Kids Closet, along with countless other local benefits and sponsorships of school organizations. In 2020, a life long dream was fulfilled when the home where she spent most all of her life prior to marriage was renovated into the “Farmhouse,” her dream come true. As Regina described her feelings about the her Farmhouse was “My little bit of heaven here on earth” Memorial contributions may be made to the Starke County Kids Closet in North Judson. Not for sure if there are flowers in heaven, but if not there soon will be as a Florist has now come Home. Visitation was Friday, December 22, 2023 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. C.S.T. at the Braman and Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson, IN. Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m.Funeral Services were Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in North Judson, IN. Burial followed in the St. Jacob’s Cemetery in North Judson, IN.

To the People of Railroad, Wayne, and Dewey Townships in Starke and LaPorte Counties Concerning the Railroad Trail Project, INTELLIGENCE REPORT #010 The recent visit by the Governor showcasing the 2-million-dollar grant to the Town of LaCrosse and other funding organizations for constructing the railroad trail project which is planned to run between the Towns of North Judson and LaCrosse via the abandoned Pennsylvania railway needs to be amended for better consideration for the benefit of the People at-large. The planned project has significant budgeting, industry, environmental, construction, and maintenance concerns that prompts reason to select an alternative route. Besides, the long-range collusionist agenda behind the plan to allocate the special performance contractors, the current plan will encounter heavy expenditures that will encumber existing local industry and drainage plans, require large amounts of soil fill repurposing and the refurbishing of two (2) very long and derelict bridges over the old and new Kankakee River, destroy marshy reclamations, and generate complex litigation and public safety concerns along the active parallel running Chesapeake and Ohio railway. The proposed alternative route would run from the Penn in the Town of LaCrosse at Festival Park then turn due south on the abandoned Monon railway to the junction of the abandoned Erie railway then head due southeasterly on the Erie to the Town of North Judson. This proposed alternative route would factually encounter less of the above stated concerns; the Erie bridge crossing over the Kankakee could be refurbished privately with a small crew over the course of a season to envision the much easier task of refurbishing an antiquated bridge than that of the Penn crossing and expected maintenance thereof. The alternative route will encounter less marshy reclamations, bypass an existing complex litigation quagmire that has encumbered the Penn, provide better public safety and industry concerns, and create a more cost effective construction route, and forgo encumbering drainage plans along the C&O. The project has been largely a pork barrel expectancy of the special interests for more than two (2) decades for the supposed general public’s best interest. Although, that best interest has not been tested under the rules of law and reason for taking privately owned property. So, I suppose that if your interested in running or riding your bike to either the Towns of LaCrosse or North Judson, I would take the better route. Sincerely, /s/ Thomas DeCola 7410 W. 250 S.
