CAN WE DIE FROM NO SLEEP?
AND ARE DREAMS NECESSARY? By Friedrich Gomez Can a human being really die from not having any sleep? Or, from not being able to dream at night? Scientists from around the world are studying these fascinating questions, and their amazing answers just may shock you out of your socks! TOTAL SLEEP DEPRIVATION CAN KILL ANIMALS. Scientists know that no sleep can kill ani-
mals. Rats, for example, will die from total lack of sleep between 11 and 32 days. Larger animals, such as dogs, will die after 9 to 17 days without any sleep. (Note: it is critically important to clarify “total non-sleep” from the casual non-scientific condition of “virtually no sleep at all.”) CAN A HUMAN BEING DIE FROM LACK OF SLEEP? International studies from “sleep scientists” have clearly shown, without

question, that “yes” human beings can and have, already, died from (total) sleep deprivation. A very rare sleep disorder, medically classified as “Fatal Familial Insomnia” has already proved this, beyond any doubt. This rare genetic sleep disorder – so far, has no known cure and (as the “fatal” portion of its clinical name implies) always leads to eventual death with the patient. As the foremost medical specialists state: “There is currently no cure for fatal familial insomnia (FFI) or treatment that can slow the disease progression.”
This terminal malady is extremely rare and is caused by a specific disease in the human brain which prevents sleep. Fatal familial insomnia is called a rare “prion disease” in the brain which causes complete lack of sleep which, in turn, causes damage to the part of the brain known as the thalamus. The spinal cord is impacted with “the disruption of critical functions.” In short, the sleepless disease hits the human nervous system and impairs essential brain functions.
