In his most disturbing report, Gallagher went on record with the following testimonial: “It isn’t enough that the Chinese Communists have burned many Scriptures. It isn’t enough that they actively ban the Bible online through firewalls on social media outlets.

“Now, apparently they dare to attempt to destroy it from within, by rewriting it.”

With clinched fists and tears in the eyes of many listeners in Congress, Gallagher adds: “In my work in Congress, I’ve heard unthinkable stories of religious oppression. But I’ve also listened to accounts of underground churches, brave clergy, and steadfast believers every bit as courageous as the saints of the early Church.”

“WORSHIPPING GOVERNMENT AS GOD: CHINA TO REWRITE BIBLE TO BRAINWASH CHILDREN, ADULTS & ENSUING GENERATIONS.” As Reuters International News Agency reported: “The Chinese Communist Party is rewriting the Christian Bible with (inaccurate revisions) which portray Jesus in a new light, as a sinner, killer and murderer.”

It is all part of a 10-year-plan to force Chinese citizens to have faith in the Chinese Communist Party, rather than religion and God, so say international observers.

Reports had leaked out of China less than four years ago, on 10 September 2019, when Reuters first reported: “Dateline Beijing, China – Christianity is on the rise in China, with the growing number of Christian followers making Communist Party leaders nervous that the religion may soon undermine party dogma. Officially, the Chinese government reports that there are 44 million Christians in the country as of 2019 with that number growing at an unprecedented rate.”

REPORTS CONFIRM: COMMUNIST CHINA WANTS TO BECOME THE “ULTIMATE DEITY” OVER CHRISTIAN GOD. According to CBN News (Christian Broadcast News, Inc.) based in America: “China desperately wants the people to take their eyes off of the Christian God and deny their faith and supplant that faith with the Communist Party as the ultimate deity.”

SHOCKING, LEAKED BIBLICAL REVISIONS REPORTED TO U. S. HOUSE SELECT COMMITTEE. In his recent report several weeks ago, Mike Gallagher (R-WI), presented new leaked details before the U. S. House Select Committee on the CCP (Chinese Communist and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

Before disclosing shocking new revelations, Gallagher repeated the following: “Chairman Xi Jinping is on a quest to make the Christian faithful serve the Communist Party rather than God.” THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO CHAIRMAN XI JINPING HAS JESUS TURN KILLER INSTEAD OF FORGIVING SIN. In the gospel according to Chairman Xi Jinping, the Chinese President has Jesus turn into a killer instead of forgiving sin.

Rep. Gallagher states: “Let me translate: Xi Jinping has no problem with the Christian’s First Commandment, just so long as he and the CCP are playing the role of God.” The first example of the Bible being rewritten is cited by Rep. Gallagher, and is a giant distortion from the original account found in the Gospel of John where Jesus is in the midst of the woman who is caught in adultery and those who condemn her to death.

In the original version, Jesus tells the scribes and Pharisees, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast the first stone at her.” (John 8:3-11) After the crowd disperses, Jesus comforts her and asks: “Woman, where are they, your accusers? Has no one They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, “Now it’s time to visit Heaven.”

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing.

They have a good time and before he realizes it the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

“Well then you’ve spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your eternity.”

The Senator reflects for a minute before he answers: “Well, I would never have said it before, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell.”

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell.

The Communist Party’s fictionalised version of this same scenario is now presented.

Rep. Gallagher shows the US Congress a Chinese university textbook which appeared in 2020.

The text contains the “inaccurate” and “rewritten” Gospel of John by the Chinese Communist Party.

The Communist Party’s version has the Gospel of John rewritten and ending with: “Jesus himself stoning the adulterous woman to death, instead of forgiving her sin,” according to Rep. Gallagher.

The second report was on the CCP authorities in the Henan province of China who forced Protestant churches to replace the Ten Commandments with Chinese President Xi Jinping quotes, changing for example, the First Commandment from: “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3) to instead read: “Resolutely guard against the infiltration of Western ideology.”

According to Tina Ramirez, founder and president of Hardwired, which is one of many international groups that have been a vocal critic of the Chinese Communist Party’s plan to rewrite the Christian Bible, the question that outsiders often ask is: “Why would the Chinese Communist Party be rewriting the Bible if they allowed religions in China in the first place, even though they don’t even believe in God?” This is a valid question which experts address in the following backstory.

BACKSTORY: RELIGIONS IN CHINA & HOW THE MYSTERIOUS GROWTH OF CHRISTIANITY WAS UNEXPECTED & SHOCKED THE CCP. First off, China is, officially, an atheist state, and members of the Communist Party, themselves, are banned from believing in and/or practising (any) religious faith.

Observers note that Communist China initially allowed certain religions to be sanctioned (but controlled), since several were already deeply rooted and entrenched in the culture for thousands of years.

(PRIMARY) RELIGIONS CHINA TODAY.

Currently, within Communist China, the (primary) religious faiths are: Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Islam, various ancient Chinese folklore belief systems, and Christianity.

Reliable sources all corroborate a most startling reality: Christianity is the fastest growing religion in all of Communist China – by far!

CHRISTIANITY BECAME THE FASTEST GROWING RELIGION IN CHINA WHICH CAUSED GOVERNMENT CONCERN. China greatly underestimated the mysterious power of Christianity, worldwide.

Christianity is, by far, the most dominant religious faith around the world with Islam a distant second.

Today in 2023, the countries with the world’s fastest growth of Christianity are: Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

But the country with the fastest growth in the world: Is Communist China (despite persecutions, imprisonment, torture, and death).

One mysterious reason why Christianity, mysteriously, thrives in the face of death, punishment, and

persecution – instead of being restrained – may be found in the following study.

Two Christian pastors at the Congressional meeting testified on persecution in China, noting that many Chinese Christian pastors and Christian followers are undeterred.

International Christian Concern (ICC) recently published a report describing the (mysterious) growth of the underground church in not only China, but in Iran and other hostile countries where government repression seems to cause the Christian church to grow rather than being stifled.

As the early Christian Church Father, Tertullian, wrote centuries ago: “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.”

BUT HOW DID CHRISTIANITY EVER MANAGE TO SURPASS OLDER, MORE ESTABLISHED RELIGIONS WITHIN CHINA? That Christianity surpassed more culturally-entrenched religions in China is beyond belief for many international observers.

Especially in Communist China where Christian followers (including entire families) are thrown in gulags where they are raped, tortured, and often die slow agonising deaths?

To fully grasp and comprehend the seemingly miraculous achievement for Christianity to surpass far older, far more established religions in China, it is necessary for the reader to glimpse a brief overview-timeline, in order to fully appreciate the level of astonishment that is shared from (both) secular and religious academics.

1. BUDDHISM. Buddhism in China played an important role in shaping Chinese civilisation, itself.

Though Buddhism was imported from India, it was practised in China for well over 200 years before the birth of the so-called Christian Messiah.

According to historians, “Buddhism is one of the oldest religions of the world tracing back 2,500 years.”

It was already well-established in China before Christianity was introduced during the early Medieval period. The Christian Bible and its Chinese adherents have greatly surpassed Buddhism.

2. TAOISM. Taoism (Daoism) as with Buddhism, is a philosophy, a religion, and a way of life.

Fallbrook Residents Celebrate Groundbreaking for New Park Fallbrook residents will soon see the park they wished for come to life. County officials and community members broke ground Thursday on a new 6.7-acre park.

The new site will feature an allwheel park or skatepark, shaded picnic and play areas, a multipurpose field, a walking trail, nature trails and separate off-leash zones for small dogs and large dogs.

Residents had a chance to get involved in designing the park from the beginning. County Parks held public meetings, issued surveys, worked with focus groups and spoke with community planning groups to hear what residents wanted.

A skate park was particularly high on the wish list. And this one will accommodate beginners and seasoned skaters. They’ll find a bowl, quarter pipes, rails, kickers, wedge ramps, stairs and more.

He preferred that I adopt him ‘spiritually’ rather than legally, and I, of course agreed to respect his wishes . . . but that shows how much I love and re-

Lyle often says that Mary’s longterm memory is amazing when I’m with her. “Friedrich works some strange sort of magic with Mary,” Lyle has said in various emails.

Lyle’s right as rain because when I’m gone Mary seems to revert back to her day-to-day dementia and lacks her erstwhile long-term memory.

Dementia researchers say this is a common phenomenon when their own ‘authority figure mindset’ and ‘self-esteem’ goes away, along with the stimulus (the stimulus being me, her daughter, whom she takes responsible care over as my protective mother figure.

I love taking care of My Lyle and quickly check on him in his office.

Bible from page 3 Taoism arose in the 6th century BCE in what is now the eastern Chinese province of Henan. It was first recognised as a religious system during the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE. Despite its ancient origins within the bosom of Chinese culture, it has been hugely surpassed by the Christian ethos.

3. CONFUCIANISM. Confucianism is one of the most influential religious philosophies in the history of China and has existed for over 2500. By comparison, Christianity has dwarfed its following.

4. ISLAM. The Islamic faith started in Mecca, in modern-day Saudi Arabia. Although the Islamic faith is the second largest in the world, Muslims are a minority group in China, representing only 1 to 1.5 percent of the total population (only 20 million Chinese Muslims).

Today, it is surmised that the Christian population in China is closer to 82 million. (This figure will be expounded on later in the exclusive report.)

5. All other religions within China, such as various ancient Chinese Folklore religious belief systems (combined), do not even stand in the shadow of Christianity’s mass numbers within Communist China.

CHINA’S REGIME HAD TO STUDY CHRISTIAN BIBLE TO MAKE REBUTTALS & INACCURATE REVISIONS. Ironically, China’s Communist Regime had to read the Christian Bible in order to overturn and make revisions in key, power-point rebuttals to its claims. Not unlike the way war strategists today study the enemy’s mindset, battle plans, and stratagems, in order to thwart or overturn them.

According to U. S. intelligence sources, Chinese President Xi Jinping seemed mystified by revelations made to him by his own Bible researchers who are tasked with rewriting it.

Begrudgingly, he was mystified as to its obvious power and global influence.

CHRISTIANITY’S MYSTERIOUS POWER & GLOBAL INFLUENCE STUNS/FASCINATES PRESIDENT XI JINPING & CCP. According to leaked sources, the Chinese Communist Party was no different in being mystified at the worldwide power and influence of the Christian Bible, despite the fact that they “detested it” and saw religion as a “poison” to the people, as did Chairman Mao Zedong decades before.

Nonetheless, behind closed doors, it is alleged that the CCP collectively could not help but wonder, begrudgingly, about this mysterious book they are about to rewrite.

Homeowner’s Insurance Update If you own a home, you must have homeowner’s insurance. You can’t even get a mortgage without it. Yet many insurers have abandoned California, or simply canceled policies as they came up for renewal. This situation has recently worsened, and many homeowners have been forced into the costly and inadequate FAIR Plan. Without a solution, our economy will crash, taking the national economy with it.

In 1988, voters approved Proposition 103, which granted extraordinary powers to the state’s Insurance Commissioner, including authority over rate increases.

Other guidelines were adopted that prohibit insurers from passing along the cost of re-insurance, which insurers buy to cover big losses. They were also prohibited from using forward-looking threat assessments to measure risk. Recent disastrous wildfires throughout the state, combined with high inflation that escalates rebuilding costs, have generated a crisis threatening the well-being of millions.

Now however, there’s an agreement involving Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, the Governor and major insurance companies aimed at bringing insurers back into the state. The solution includes the use of “catastrophe modeling,” which uses our increased understanding of conditions that pro-

duce destructive wildfires when assessing future risks - something I’ve long advocated. Because rates were frozen or only incrementally raised these past few years, leading insurance companies have requested rate increases from 28% to almost 40% and, if approved by the Commissioner, rates could increase by those amounts overall. However, the increases could be distributed among homeowners based on risk. Homes in the city, for example, might see little or no increase, while homes on brushy hilltops could see large premium increases.

We also must have better vegetation management at the wildlandurban interface. By eliminating fuels that generate wildfires, the risk assessment for homes throughout California will improve, and we’ll have fewer fires and lower insurance costs.

For now, there’s a deal in place but there’s no written agreement. I’m withholding judgement until I see one. As always, ‘The devil is in the details.’

Humanitarian Crisis In a unanimous decision last week, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors officially declared the ongoing border situation a “Humanitarian Crisis.” This declaration comes in response to a mounting crisis that has seen over 8,500 migrants dropped at transit stations in San Diego County since September 13, 2023. The Federal government’s lack of sufficient resources to manage this influx of asylumseeking migrants has resulted in a critical strain on local resources and created an urgent humanitarian challenge.

The situation has escalated rapidly as daily street releases continue, with no set end date in sight. These releases occur with little direction and minimal resources, leaving local communities grappling with an increasingly untenable situation.

The burden of caring for these asylum seekers has been unfairly shifted to local governments, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and community members.

While we are a community that values compassion and empathy, we must also acknowledge the practical limits of our capacity to meet the needs of those who arrive in our region.

With this approval, three important things will happen: • Declare this a Humanitarian Crisis.

• Call on the Federal Government to designate resources and personnel to prevent street releases.

• Oppose lateral transfers of asylum seekers from other states and jurisdictions.

We already face a severe homelessness crisis, and dropping thousands of individuals onto our streets will only exacerbate this issue. Like many others, our region is already beyond its capacity to provide essential services, resources, and support to those seeking refuge within our borders.

The responsibility for border security lies squarely with the Federal Government, and they must not continue to abdicate this essential obligation.

Why won’t Citibank refund my money?

Leslie Luke orders dresses from an online store, but he never receives them. Why won’t his credit card help him get a refund?

Q: Last summer, I ordered dresses from the Krismile online store. I paid $241 with my Citi credit card.

I never received the dresses. I exchanged emails with the business in an attempt to resolve the problem.

Finally, I contacted Citi in March to file a credit card dispute. Citi claimed it mailed a letter to me to fill out, but I didn’t get it. In April, I called Citi, and a representative said I had five days to mail the dispute letter.

The next day, I received a notification online that “the information was not enough to support your claim.”

I appealed the denial in writing.

I received a notification online that “Due to the age of the charge, we have no options available to

obtain a credit for you.”

I would like to receive a credit of $241 and have Citi change its procedures and educate staff on what customer service is. Can you help me? ~ Leslie Luke, Manlius, NY A: Krismile sells some pretty cool dresses, but the moment I looked up the business, I could see the problem.

The search results also included a lot of pages in which customers asked if the site was a scam -- and many said it was. I also noticed some spelling errors on the site when I looked at it, which set off some alarms with my inner grammarian.

So before I go any further, let me say this: Before you buy anything online, at least do a quick search to find out what other people are saying about the business. I think you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble.

By Tom Morrow Chances are very good you, or one of your close relatives or friends have been or is a “Freemason.” It’s an ancient fraternal organization that men of all walks of life can be a member. The list is vast and includes a number U.S. presidents and other world leaders.

For the most part, Freemasonry is a mysterious, world-wide fraternal organization for men only.

The first Masonic Grand Lodge was established in England in 1717.

What’s the origin? One theory suggests Freemasonry may have been an outgrowth of Rosicrucianism, which is a spiritual and cultural movement that arose in Europe in the early 17th century.

Shriners International, commonly known as the “Shriners” is a Masonic society established in 1870.

Shriners International describes itself as a fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief,

To join a Masonic Lodge, it is the candidate who must “… ask to join.”

While the candidate may be encouraged to ask, he may not be outwardly invited. Finally, the Lodge takes an officially secret ballot on each application before a candidate is either initiated or rejected. The exact number of adverse ballots (“blackballs”) required to reject a candidate varies between Masonic jurisdictions from one to three negative votes.

This Vacasa rental is a dump. Can I get my money back?

The vacation rental Carol Wilson books for her group through Vacasa is infested with rats and insects. Vacasa offers to refund one night. Can they get all of their money back?

Q: I planned a trip for a group from a small rural town in Kansas. I booked a vacation rental in Galveston, Texas, through Vacasa.

From the start, the stay was truly horrible. The house had not been cleaned. As the days went by, things only deteriorated. We found rats, cockroaches, and bedbugs.

The air conditioner went out, and the owners didn’t repair it.

I have kept a record of all calls, texts, and emails to Vacasa but have received very little back in terms of responses. Vacasa staff members promise to get back to us but don’t.

Vacasa has offered to refund one night of our stay. We want a full

refund. Can you help us get our $6,292 back? ~ Carol Wilson, Wichita, Kan. A: Your vacation rental was a dump.

According to your notes, the house hadn’t been cleaned when you arrived. There was trash in the house and the outside garbage bins were overflowing. The toilets hadn’t been cleaned. The beds weren’t made. And that was before you discovered the rodents and insects.

If you ever check into a rental like that again, here’s my advice: Leave immediately! Obviously, no one had serviced the home, and it wasn’t ready for you. Does Vacasa guarantee that your home will be clean? In fact, Vacasa promises that its homes will be squeaky clean -or, in its words, premium clean.

“Our professional team is committed to providing clean and safe homes for our guests and owners each and every stay,” it says.

It appears Vacasa fell far short, at least in your case. I see a lot of back and forth with Vacasa in your paper trail. At some point, it might have been more useful to appeal your case to someone higher up. I list the names, numbers and email addresses of the Vacasa customer service managers on my consumer advocacy website, Elliott.org.

At the risk of repeating myself, I don’t think you should have ever accepted this rental. But you did, and that complicates things. Your group not only stayed in this inferior rental, but it also cleaned the property and purchased trash bags, new pillows and blankets, and laundry detergent. You were trying to be accommodating, but your willingness to stay in the rental and be good renters really made things more difficult for you.

Because your group stayed in the

property, Vacasa assumed you found the accommodations acceptable. Like all vacation rental companies, it has a policy for offering refunds when something goes wrong. Staying in the rental means you have accepted the accommodations, and that makes a full refund all but impossible.

Unless, of course, you call me. I asked Vacasa to take another look at your group’s experience. I also forwarded some of the photos of the property. Vacasa contacted you and raised its offer to $3,200, or about a 50 percent refund. Your group is happy with that resolution.

Revenge Travel Was Sweet, But What Happens Next Could Turn Your Vacation Sour Kathy Lopez got her sweet travel revenge, with ambitious trips to Europe, Asia and Central America in the last year. But like many Americans, she’s not done.

end badly. Actually, Lopez and I are both classic post-revenge travelers -- we’re looking for a new experience after knocking almost everything off our bucket lists following the pandemic. And that could land us on the wrong side of the Ruak and in some serious trouble.

“Some of my friends are calling it quits or taking long breaks from international travel,” says Lopez, an author from Prescott, Ariz.

“Not me.”

“People get in security trouble when they are complacent or pay no attention to things that elevate traveler vulnerabilities,” Harding Bush, a former Navy SEAL and the senior manager of Global Rescue’s Security Operations, told me.

The latest Allianz Vacation Confidence Index suggests there are more travelers like her. Consumers spent $214 billion on summer travel, a new record. Turns out they were just getting warmed up.

“We expect that 2024 will set a new record,” says Daniel Durazo, a spokesman for Allianz.

Revenge travel, or taking a vacation to “get back” at COVID for keeping you trapped during a lockdown, was a phenomenon last year. And you’d assume that this fall, people would want to take a break. But they aren’t.

Many Americans are doubling down on travel. These post-revenge travelers are planning even more exotic trips, going to unexpected places -- and potentially getting themselves into all kinds of trouble. I’ll explain in a moment.

Revenge Travel Was Sweet And Now We Can’t Stop Everyone could see the post-pandemic travel surge coming. The travel industry needed the business, and travelers needed to get out of town. I hate to use the term win-win, but really, if this wasn’t one, I don’t know what is.

Travel advisors say that while the idea of “revenge” has faded, the appetite for travel is as strong as ever.

“Demand is far exceeding supply in many cases,” says John Lovell, President of Travel Leaders Group.

“We’re seeing tremendous sales volume across all categories of cruise and land products. Even when you factor in higher capacity, this far exceeds our expectations.”

by FlightHub found that 37% of respondents who had to make budget cuts needed to reduce their travel spending.

“This indicates that while travel enthusiasm may remain high, financial constraints are playing a substantial role in shaping travel choices,” he says.

So where’s everyone going in the post-revenge travel era? I asked Peter Strebel, RateGain’s president of the Americas. He says some areas are seeing strong post-revenge interest from travelers, including Florida’s Space Coast, Charlotte, Austin, and Washington, D.C. And holiday airline bookings for Thanksgiving and Christmas are already filling up for destinations like Orlando, Miami, and Nashville. In New York, holiday booking are up 55% from 2019 levels But the truth is, we don’t know how post-revenge travel will play out. If the economy perks up, Americans could spend like there’s no tomorrow and head overseas. If not, we’ll always have Orlando.

But that’s not the biggest problem.

Matt Schuyler, Hilton’s chief brand officer, puts it more bluntly.

Interestingly, I also tried to get into Myanmar this summer. I was staying within a stone’s throw of the border in Thailand at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort. You can wade into the Ruak River and be in Myanmar. I asked a hotel employee how to get there, and he said it wasn’t a good idea. Then I read the State Department warning about civil war and armed conflict, and I thought, “Maybe next time.”

Lopez says she’s going to avoid Myanmar for now, too.

“I heard their prison food isn’t very good,” she jokes.

But post-revenge travel is no joke.

What comes next could drain your bank account, and if you’re unlucky, it could even kill you.

Post-revenge Travel May Be Dangerous So here’s a fact most travel experts won’t tell you: Post-revenge travel could be dangerous in several ways.

The first danger is that if you push forward with a trip without enough money, you’ll probably regret it.

Taking on debt to feed your travel habit is a terrible idea. Americans already owe a record $1 trillion in credit card debt, and no amount of points or miles can justify adding to it.

But the second danger is that your desire to explore new places will

Scientists have discovered novelty triggers dopamine in the brain which can stimulate feelings of attraction. In other words, if you jog in place and then meet someone, you’re more likely to think they’re attractive. First dates that involve a nerve-racking activity, like riding a roller coaster, are more likely to lead to a second or third date. One thing for sure, a first date should include a way of getting to know each other.

Men and women who have been in a marriage for 20-plus years and now suddenly find themselves in the dating world, often have no idea how to date. They might not know how to dress, how to relate, where to go, and when the date ends, if they should kiss or not. The best thing to do is treat each other like you’d like to be treated.

The above comment was 88 year old Clint Eastwood’s response to his golfing buddy singer/songwriter Toby Keith’s question “how do you remain so young and active.” In this three part series we had planned to explore the kinds of things that the three older “preinternet” generations could do to extend their productive years by deferring the more negative effects of aging. Our emphasis was to be on finding ways to use broadband Internet access to help optimize “cognitive plasticity” (our minds) for the three generations that were already adults when “Broadband Internet) access became available at the turn of the 21 st century. The “pre-broadband” generations are Silent 1925-1945, Boomers 19461964 and Gen X 1965-1980. The

Historically we have associated the concept of “aging gracefully” with maintaining the attitudes and attributes associated with younger generations. Staying “up to date” and being “Young at Heart” are popular clichés associated with successful aging. Being aware of the latest popular music, current pop-culture icons, contemporary emojis and clothing fads has been regarded as a positive sign that one was successfully resisting the inevitable ravages of the aging process. But increasingly today, those who desperately cling to these vestiges of youth are more likely to be regarded as pathetic examples of “arrested development”. What has changed?

America and Western Europe are at the forefront of perhaps the most apocalyptic period in human history.

This century may well mark the most decisive transition in the three million year history of humans on this planet. The convergence of technologies that merged the entirety of human action and knowledge with artificial intelligence has and will continue to forever change the course of human development. Broadband Internet is only a bit over twenty years old, but already we see its influence as widening the gulf between the pre and post Internet generations. The

pre-broadband generations are the last humans forced to rely on their own on-board memory and cognitive abilities in making survival decisions. The post-Internet generations have a better way. With the whole of man’s knowledge to work with and artificial intelligence to guide it, the Internet can provide more perfect solutions than any individual could possibly achieve.

Already we are witnessing the decline of cognitive skills (IQs) in our post–internet generations. That fact is of minor concern because there is no longer a requirement for any user to possess “smarts”. The Internet, abetted by AI, is capable of making better and faster decisions than any individual.

So we, the seniors of post-internet generations, can rely on the cer-

tainty that we are the last human generations forced to rely on own internal cognitive abilities for survival. Like the last of the dinosaurs, we can hang out together and enjoy our fellowship until we are no more. We can speculate on the future fate of mankind and opine as to whether or not future generations will be as happy as we are. We may ruminate over the possibility that humans might become successful colony creatures, like bees and ants, or speculate that something evil or alien might wander by, turn off the lights and leave us to starve. No one knows.

The only absolute certainty is that “what will be, will be” and there is absolutely nothing we can do to change the future of our species.

So eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.

There are so many adoptable pets waiting to meet you. But, if this isn’t the right time for you to open your home and heart to a new pet, you can still lend a helping paw.

At an animal shelter, every month is “Adopt a Shelter Dog (or Cat) Month.” But on the calendar, it’s in October. It’s a perfect time to rescue a dog from a shelter and bring it into your home.

More families get new pets during the holiday season than at any other time of year. That rush to adopt will start in a few more weeks. The selection of adoptable pets is possibly better now than it will be in a month.

• Make a donation in honor of a pet you have now or a pet you lost. What better way to honor their memory than to help another pet who needs a home?

Citi was following the letter of the law. It needed your documentation, and it only had a limited time to send a dispute to the merchant.

But it wasn’t following the most important law -- of good customer service. It should have found a way to ensure you had the correct form, either by email or via postal service. Instead, it sent you a series of automated messages saying you had missed your opportunity to dispute the purchase. That’s not good enough.

I publish the names, numbers and email addresses of the top Citi executives on my consumer advocacy site, Elliott.org.

You are absolutely correct that Citi’s dispute process is problematic and needs some attention. I contacted Citi on your behalf. Shortly after that, you received some good news.

“Citibank’s exec office actually called me to apologize and refund the money,” you said. “She said their process is being improved. I was pleasantly surprised.”

That makes two of us. I will be watching closely to see if Citi does indeed make improvements to its dispute process. I hope it does.

faith CEO Greg Anglea that it was both sad and a shock that Haven House has been defunded and now is closing. Anglea hit the bull’s eye that if our mission is to get people off the street we need to provide them a place to go. In the mixed bag of repercussions it now appears that Interfath’s plans for opening a much needed Family Center this year is now erased due to the funding being eliminated entirely in this particular regard. Kudos to former Escondido Mayor Paul McNamara for accepting the position of new Executive Director at New Brother Benno so that he could continue to address the scourge of homelessness. McNamara did not have to get involved but his continued commitment to fight the plight of the homeless speaks volumes about the man.

During McNamara’s tenure as Escondido Mayor we saw the reduction of unsheltered people. On another note, I agree with The Paper’s recent assessment of 5th District Supervisor Jim Desmond. Desmond is a tireless crusader on many fronts and should he run for California Governor he has my vote.

San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones is also a “keeper” and it’s heartening to see her weekly column in The Paper addressing her constituents -- shows her willingness to take the time to enlighten us on various topics. One final note, thanks Lyle for keeping us abreast on Pastor Dick Huls and we’re all so happy to see his “Pastor Says” column return to The Paper! Your cover story writer Friedrich Gomez never disappoints and his eclectic range of topics from investigative pieces to the current cover story on California and its unique residents gave us a much-needed belly laugh regarding the funny but accurate assessment of California’s culture: “You know you’re a native Californian because you’ve asked at least one female friend -- are those real or fake?” We couldn’t stop laughing because the narrative is both funny and a true reflection of the culture of our time. As with Will Rogers, Gomez mixes fact with humor.

Unique Residents” (9/28/23 issue) of The Paper and written by your wonderful scribe Friedrich Gomez! It was a multi-generational piece because my husband and I couldn’t stop laughing over the hilarious California anecdotes from the traffic commute, earthquakes, and past governors Reagan, Schwarzenegger, and “Pat” Brown -- hilarious stuff!

And our respective parents (both in their late 70s) “lived” through the hippie counter-culture and the “Free Love Movement” on college campuses and had a nonstop laughing attack at the story’s factual but comical observations! Our four teenagers (age 13 thru 19) were captivated by the cover showing surfers riding waves (they’re into surfing and skateboarding) so when they began reading, all of them were rolling on the floor in spasms of laughter!

In an era where “It’s not cool to hang out with your parents” they were suddenly asking zillions of questions (while still laughing), like “Mom, Dad, was there REALLY a guy running for president who said all those dumb things?!” (They were referring to Dan Quayle!) For the first time in a very long time, our kids were sincerely interested in “Mom” and “Dad” and how we grew up! My husband and I just looked at each other and we had tears in our eyes! And whenever “Grandpa” and “Grandma” come over, our kids sit on the floor around them and ask questions about “hippies” and why college campuses underwent a sexual revolution? Funny thing, both Grandpa and both Grandma on both sides of the family, well, they seem to want to come over more often! They just “feel more important now.”

So does my husband Bill and I. And we have you to thank Lyle Davis for publishing Friedrich Gomez’ amazing cover stories!

Oh yes, our teens (two boys, two girls) all related to Friedrich’s funny surfer anecdotes and skateboarding and guess what?

They want to meet him! Lyle, is there any way the public can meet Friedrich Gomez instead of just reading about him and his wonderful stories? Funny thing, Lyle, my family seems to be much closer now. And hanging out with Mom and Dad ain’t so corny after all.

The Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, enjoyment, and performance of a cappella, closeharmony songs arranged in the unique “Barbershop” style, known for its “ringing” chords.

The Music Men share their love of Barbershop singing with the community in a variety of ways: through public performances (Christmas concerts, patriotic concerts at Veterans Day celebrations, festivals such as the Escondido Chocolate Festival, senior center luncheons); private performances for church groups, homeowners’ associations, retirement communities, and family celebrations; and the delivery of Singing Valentines.

As with many singing groups, the Music Men’s activities were curtailed during the pandemic. The chorus is hard at work rebuilding its ranks and learning new songs to perform. We always welcome prospective new members. Having a formal background in music, either singing or playing an instrument, is certainly helpful, but not a requirement. We are looking for men who

ME: “Are you hungry? You want me to make you a sandwich?”

Yes, yes, I know. We have lots of major problems facing us.

LOVABLE LYLE: “Hey, yeah, that would be nice!”

Illegal immigration that is flooding our cities, towns and villages with illegal aliens.

I quickly make him a thick-sliced ham sandwich with mayo and tomato slices on rye bread with cold watermelon slices and crisps (chips) on the side, along with a new cold bottle of Lemon Brisk Iced tea.

During my Fashion Class, My Mary has me learn ladylike fashion sense and selects 4 different dresses she instructs me to put on, then she gives me pointers on how a girl should walk and ‘present herself’ in such dresses. I quickly duck into Lovable Lyle’s office and show him just two of the dresses which Mary has dressed me in. Lyle is amused and during one entrance wearing a dress, Lyle is on the phone talking to Evelyn Madison, ex-girlfriend and former Assistant Editor of The Paper.

LYLE: “Friedrich, I have Evelyn on the phone, wanna say a word?”

Homelessness. Thousands of people who are homeless . . often camping out on our streets and sidewalks . . all too many of whom are urinatig and defecating on those same streets, sidewalks and alleys - often reqiring our children, headed to school, to avoid certain areas for fear of contamination and/or being accosted or abducted.

Inflation . . . prices for food and gasoline are through the roof! Young people, newly married, have little chance of being able to buy a home.

Real estate prices are sky high.

But among all these problems we are faced with yet another.

Where Has Robin Red Breast Gone?

EVELYN (laughing out loud over the phone): “Yes! That’s what Lyle has been telling me,” (as she giggles some more).

ME: “Gotta go, Mom! I love you, bye!”

EVELYN (still laughing): “Bye! Love ya too!”

I’ve already cleaned up the house: washed dishes, picked-up various items and put them in their proper places, emptied the rubbish bins in Lyle’s office and the kitchen, and brought the three huge rubbish barrels from the street to the side of the house.

Mary allows me to do all this and ‘supervises’ on teaching me to be a girl who knows proper house-cleaning!

It’s fun having My Mary Queen of Scots giving me school lessons every Friday, such as “Avoiding Boys 101” and “Men Are a Pain in the Arse Advance Theory Classes” and she also teaches me: “The Art of Insulting Men While Smiling Sweetly.”

Can’t wait for next Friday! So much

The North County Veterans Stand Down Mission Statement is: To restore in our veterans the dignity they earned and empower them to become productive members of our community.

The 7th Annual North County Veterans Stand Down (NCVSD) starts at 8:00am Thursday October 19th and goes through noon Sunday the 22nd at Green Oak Ranch in Vista.

The North County Veterans Stand Down is an annual four-day event where all veterans and their families, especially those homeless or struggling, can receive much needed services in a safe, friendly, drug and alcohol-free, secure environment.

ME: “Hi Mom! Guess what, Mary has put me in four dresses so far!”

I’ve often told some friends who are going into the medical field: “If you’re too dignified and stuffy and unwilling to ‘play along’ with dementia patients -- then never become a dementia caregiver! It’s unfair and cruel for them, and it’s too much of an ego trip for you!”

Southern Californians seldom have a chance to see a Robin Red Breast.

Growing up in the midwest (Omaha) I often saw Mr. Robin Red Breast (and noted that his breast is more orange than red) and I enjoyed watching them pull nightcrawlers (worms) out of the ground following a rain. I explored their nests and noted their eggs are a beautiful turquoise blue.

I also enjoyed their singing.

During their stay at the NCVSD, Veterans and their families will receive food, lodging, clothing, medical, dental, and vision care, veterinary care for their pets, plus many more services to help them both physically and mentally, all free of charge.

They, too, would enjoy California winters . . . but, no, they stay put in the midwest . ..their bright red plumage showcased against a white background of snow.

We in California are stuck with Sparrows . . . and the occasional Swallow. And Pelicans. Seagulls, And Mourning Doves and an occasional Red Winged Blackbird.

And Baltimore Orioles? One of the most colorful birds alive. They, however, are far too uppity to consider emigrating to Callifornia.

I ask you . . what is this world coming to when we can’t find a Robin Red Breast when you need one to lift our spirits?

But, since moving to Southern California in 1968 I have seen, maybe, three or four robins . . . and they ain’t the same color as the midwestern robins.

Why is that?

I don’t think Robins are a migratory bird and head south for the winter, and California would offer a much more comfortable winter climate than the nidwest.

And how about Cardinals? Why do we not see them in California? They are a beatiful bird with a distinctive call that can’t be mistaken for any other bird.
