Dear Palace Theatre Supporters, What a year COVID-19 has presented us with. We deeply appreciate your continued support of the Palace Theatres. Your belief in our community and mission has sustained us through an incredibly challenging time. As we reflect on this past year, we feel it is important to describe our year in two parts, reviewing our accomplishments through a pre-pandemic lens and a COVID-19 lens. From July 1, 2019 through March 13, 2020, the Palace was flourishing. Our Performing Arts Series received critical acclaim and praise, with each performance exceeding box office projections for the season. Our theatre hosted more than 155,000 patrons annually pre-pandemic. The recent addition of Forever Emma Studios allowed our Palace Youth Theatre students to rehearse, train, and grow in a creative environment. In October 2019, we opened the newest addition to the Palace Theatre Trust: The Rex Theatre. We transformed this dilapidated building into a versatile 300-seat venue for musicians, theatre, comedy, community events, and more. The Rex Theatre opened with much anticipation and success. 2020 held a great deal of optimism for the Palace Theatres. But then, the pandemic hit. Between March 13 and June 30, 2020, we canceled all upcoming events and closed all venues to the public. Along with the rest of the performing arts industry across the world, our stages were dark. We leaned on one another. We were reminded of why we love live theatre. We continued to invest in our future with the steadfast certainty that we would return. With the help of the State and other theatres, we created the Historic Landmark Theatres of NH, which allowed Venue Relief Funds through the CARES Act to keep NH’s Historic Landmark Theatres alive! Throughout the months we were closed, community remained at the heart of our organization. Live theatre has always brought us together. Bonding in laughter and singing along with strangers beside you are some of the moments you may not think too much about until they are no longer possible. Although the pandemic challenged us to adjust in new ways, our positivity kept the theatrical and musical heartbeat of this community alive. We thank our staff, our Community Advisory Board, our many volunteers, our patrons, and our community for believing in the Palace Theatres. Our Mission

The Palace Theatre Trust enriches the region’s cultural life and serves as a community resource through its stewardship of the historic Palace Theatre and affiliate facilities. The Palace Theatre Trust operates four distinct venues – the historic Palace Theatre, the Spotlight Room, Forever Emma Studios, and the Rex Theatre. The Palace Theatre Trust fulfills its mission by responding creatively to the cultural and entertainment needs of the community, providing educational opportunities for performers and audiences of all ages, and operating in a fiscally responsible manner.

Palace Youth Theatre The Palace Theatre Trust is firmly committed to strengthening access to theatre for youth in the Manchester area and beyond. Palace Youth Theatre (PYT) provides an avenue for young children and young adults to learn, perform, and grow as individuals within the Palace Theatre community. With access to state-of-the-art performance and rehearsal space, exposure and connection to industry professionals, and a full roster of experienced theatre personnel on staff, it is no wonder PYT is the largest and fastest-growing youth theatre program in the state. PYT delivers comprehensive and professional training for a variety of youth populations through the following educational initiatives. Palace Youth Theatre (755 Students, Grades 2-12)

Palace Youth Theatre produces seven Broadway Junior musicals per season. Each is individually auditioned, and all young performers who audition are cast. This is an opportunity for all students interested in creative, expressive engagement to participate in a show, regardless of ability or experience.

Palace Teen Company (PTC) (57 Students, Ages 12-18) & Palace Teen Apprentice Company (PTAC) (70 Students, Ages 12-18) Footloose Jr. (PYT)

Palace Teen Company and Palace Teen Apprentice Company are two programs designed for students who wish to pursue theatre performance beyond high school. The program includes audition training, weekly dance classes, workshops and master classes taught by industry professionals, and the opportunity to perform in a full-scale musical each semester.

Theatre Camps (525 Campers, Grades 2-12)

Palace Youth Theatre offers four two-week camp sessions in the summer, as well as two one-week sessions during February and April school vacation. In addition to typical day camp activities (arts and crafts, games, etc.), these camps offer a creative and engaged curriculum to students interested in all aspects of live theatre, and culminate in a musical performed by all campers on the Palace Theatre stage. The Wedding Singer Jr. (PTAC)

Children’s Summer Series - CSS

(23,000+ Attendees Total, For young and young-at-heart audiences) Palace Professional Theatre for Children hires a Summer Resident Company to perform a different one-hour children’s theatre production each week throughout the summer. PPT4C shows are geared toward children, and provide accessible, creative theatre productions on the historic Palace stage.

Angel Tickets (1840 Tickets, Donated to students in grades K-12)

Snow White (CSS)

The Palace was proud to offer theatre tickets to more than 1800 children from three local elementary schools in low-income areas at no charge. For many of these students, these complimentary tickets provide them their first exposure to live theatre.

Forever Emma Studios In 2018, Palace Youth Theatre found a new home at 516 Pine Street. What was once St. George’s Church is now Forever Emma Studios, named in loving memory of PYT’s own young performer, Emma Bechert. While the upper floor of the building has become the Palace’s set building/storage area for all Palace produced shows, the lower level has become a much-needed space for PYT’s ever-growing program. Forever Emma Studios includes two fully renovated dance studios, a 100-seat rehearsal space/theatre, a vocal coaching studio, youth staff offices, and youth costume/camp storage. The addition of Forever Emma Studios allows further expansion and enrichment of our arts education curriculum offerings.

Since its opening in the fall of 2018, the Palace has hosted over 100 events in the Spotlight Room. The versatility of this space and its ideal location have made the Spotlight Room a worthy investment. Situated directly adjacent to our historic Palace Theatre, the Spotlight Room has been the perfect place for cast meet and greets, pre/post show receptions, and even rehearsals for our professional shows. This year, we have enjoyed hosting a plethora of events from wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners to corporate meetings and business seminars. By the Numbers

On October 30, 2019 we opened the doors of the Rex Theatre, a state-of-the-art, 300-seat performance venue. In the four months the Rex was open before temporarily shutting down due to COVID-19, we began to see the possibilities of this new cultural resource. This venue has added immensely to our existing performance capabilities. We look forward to experiencing the growth of the Palace Theatre Trust’s newest addition. By the Numbers

Each year, the Palace brings over eight million dollars in economic activity to downtown Manchester (as calculated by Professor Doug Blais of Southern New Hampshire University). Facility Improvements & Theatre Restoration Downtown Revitalization: The Rex Theatre The Palace Theatre is dedicated to the enrichment of Manchester’s cultural and civic life. This year, we doubled down on this aspect of our mission and opened the doors of the Rex Theatre. Back in 2016, when this dilapidated building was purchased by the Manchester Development Corporation (MDC), we saw an opportunity. The Palace Theatre Trust entered into a private-public partnership with the MDC with the shared goal of reviving this building, which had undergone a number of transformations over the years. Originally a printing press, the Rex served as a movie theatre from the 1940s to the 1980s. On October 30, 2012 we were proud to open the Rex as a theatre once again. We are excited for all that this resource will provide to our community. Facility Improvements of the Palace Theatre Trust: •
